Re: Vocal level automation

"Multiple iterations of EQ" seems like someone's doing a bunch of voodoo without thinking about the math or physics of what an EQ actually is. Unless those are separate single-band EQs or he has a *very* specific parametric curve to fit, there is absolutely no reason to chain more than one EQ in a r...

I loved that video. Look Mum No Computer's whole channel is a lot of fun. His biggest claim to fame so far is the horrifying Furby Organ:

Re: Song Fight! Live 2019: SF Tribute band set?

I was planning on ending my set with a cover of Brother Machine's "Space Cadet." But I could move that into a tribute set if we're going to do it as a dedicated thing.

Re: Is this a good deal on a good stage piano?

Ooh, I’ve never tried that one but it wouldn’t surprise me if that were a Privia action. Seems like it might be a pretty good choice yeah!

The reviews I’ve found on YouTube are promising. And yeah it seems like it’s a Privia with less user interface.

Re: Don't get pricked (Porcupine prefight)

Haha, thanks, sorry to be, um, prickly.

Anyway EIEBC idea: there are three disparate species all called "porcupine," and folks are also often confused about porcupines' relation to hedgehogs (there is none). Maybe this could become a thing.

Or not. I dunno.

Happy birthday Glenn and Ken! I was going to wait until midnight PDT but I seem to have been preempted.

Maybe the EIEBC can ride again for the new fight? I have an idea.

Okay I ended up booking a room at the Holiday Inn West Madison from 7/31 - 8/5. It has two beds. If someone wants to split the room with me, please let me know. It'll be $92/night for whomever takes it.

Re: Song Fight! Live 2019: Musicians Exchange

I am likely to be available as a mediocre drummer. Can't really guarantee that my wrists will be cooperating for anything else unfortunately (heck I might not even be able to play guitar on my own set, the way things are going lately...) On that note, I'd appreciate someone to play some subset of ba...

Re: Song Fight! Live 2019: Curds & Chords (Madison WI US 8/2-8/3)

I will almost certainly be there, but I'd like to know when other folks are arriving and leaving so I can maximize the enjoyment of my booked travel. Plus, I really want to get in on a housing split, because of the hotel situation. [EDIT] Okay fuck it, I just booked my travel - I'll be there from Ju...

My first time entering in nearly 3 years, so I figure I should also review for the first time in who knows how long. Order is just what the front page shuffle gave me. Dimetrodon I can't really make out the vocals because they're so far back in the mix. The guitars are also really messy. Are the lyr...

Is this a birthday tribute to our good friend fluffy porcupine?
"fluffy porcupine" was my band name, not my me-name.

Re: Is this a good deal on a good stage piano?

For a stage piano I'd also recommend something in the Casio Privia line, which has (IMO) a better key action and also costs a bit less, new. I had a PX-300 for well over a decade and was very happy with it, and only got rid of it recently when I upgraded to the Komplete Kontrol S88. When I upgraded,...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

Okay so back to the question about voting systems: I'm a fan of marking things as "good" or "bad" and letting the overall ratio determine a winner. Mathematically it's similar to what we have on Song Fight! right now but the psychology changes the equation a bit. Maybe each vote could also have a +1...

This is something I've long been fascinated with. Many moons ago, Glenn Case & I ran a similar challenge but only based around Prince albums. But we stopped when we started getting press and Prince started getting weird. I loved the Prince thing and the collaboration I did with BLT (okay, it was mo...
