Re: Fixing typos in the archive data

I just noticed this in the 15 years ago on the homepage:

http://www.sfjukebox.org/artists/R.%20M ... 20Ensemble

"Mostquito"??? I don't know if it's a great idea for me to tamper with data from that far back but ... that has GOT to be a typo, right?

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

Songfight does have a fb page. I'm one of the admins and I see people liking it on a fairly regular basis. To me it seems like nearly all of those likes are coming from spam/bot accounts (e.g. a bunch of random folks from who appear to be from the Philippines or Africa who have little-to-no content...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

All these services are the same old crap, good luck finding any huge differentiator. :P I'd say this one goes beyond huge: Pandora is only available in the U.S. right now Touché. Anyway, we've been wandering very far off topic. Bonus points to whomever of us pulls Esthero's stunt in our next Song F...

Albums, not songs :P
Oh, misread as stations, sorry. Anyway yes with Premium you can have as many offline albums as you can fit on your device. Just like every other service. All these services are the same old crap, good luck finding any huge differentiator. :P

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

yeah but can Pandora discovery put those albums directly in my library in a way that I can access them offline? :P Yes, you can save stations for offline use. We've had that for a while. You have to be a paying subscriber though ($5/month ad-free radio or $10/month full-featured) and I think it onl...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

But not enraging enough to stop paying for the service...? Also, lol @ Apple Music radio stations for discover hahaha. Have I mentioned that Pandora stations these days have a variety of different "modes" you can choose from, like, Crowd Favorites, Deep Cuts, Artist Only (for premium subscribers), e...

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

It'd be cool to have a list of the top vote getter for all 20 years. The fight with the most votes or entries per year, the song with the most votes.. the fighter with the most votes per year. I don't know how easily it'd be to compile that information, but it'd be cool. Most of that stuff is easy ...

An obvious thought you've probably already had, but adding a 20 Years Ago Today spot on the front page.
Yes! That ones a definite. I added the "15 years ago" so adding 20 should be pretty straightforward (barring any unforeseen gremlins lurking in the Song Fight code :) ).

This is fixed in the Jukebox and in the official archive data and will be fixed on the official archive page with the next site update.

Re: Ongoing archive problems

I think I fixed <Something>Calico, I think there isn't a code issue but a data issue. Since artist names can have HTML in them (ugh) their name needed to be updated to have < and > instead of < and >. :/

Fixing typos in the archive data

"Possom Sauce" and "Phillipsox" are now fixed. The songs from those artists have been merged into the correct artists. The Jukebox is updated now. The official archive data has been fixed but the site won't be updated until the next time I update the site with the next results/title/fight. If you ha...

Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

Next year's live show will be the 20th Song Fight! Live! Plus it's around the 20th anniversary of Song Fight! We SF Bay Area locals thought would be cool to host here as the very first Song Fight! Live back in 2001 happened in SF. We'd probably try to do it in the June-August time frame so folks who...

Song Fight! Turns 20

Next year in June Song Fight! will turn 20 years old. Whoa! I'm trying to brainstorm about cool things to do all year to celebrate that. Got any ideas?

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Yeah. I just hope that at some point the streaming services move to a more ethical payment model, maybe after the labels have realized they’ve screwed everyone over with this system that they fought for. Labels don't care about screwing everyone else. They are back to making money. So, problem solv...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I dunno what the answer is, but it sure as hell isn't demanding that people stay in an older mindset when they've already made it clear they'll just move on to other music instead. +++ Also if the streaming market were only independent companies like Spotify/etc., then I would say it actually would...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I still don't quite understand why things don't work that way. My hunch is it's the labels' fault but I have no actual inside info on it. We have all the data about exactly which songs spun how many times in any given time period so it's definitely not that it isn't technically feasible to pay that ...
