Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

So you could have ‘sky/behind’ or ‘laughter/after’ or ‘queen/machine’ end of line rhymes (as long as they’re not a couplet), but not ‘daughter/slaughter’ From this list, I would only count sky/behind as a slant rhyme. ‘laughter/after’ or ‘queen/machine’ are both phonetically identical, so they have...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Two "Floating In the Water"

Really enjoyed the songs from last week! Unfortunately I didn’t have time to write reviews for this round, but I promised Elks of the economy a review, so here it is! Elks: love the ocean sounds at the start- it adds a really nice ambience to set up the song, and prepares the ears for the reverby de...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Three "Can't Let It Go"

Mandibles did get a shadow in, and it’s about about belaying and rock climbing, and the perils they add to a relationship… the guest vocals are in the chorus, and sung by none other than Truth’s wife!

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

Blah blah review blah [/quote] Wow - thanks so much - I've really appreciated all the kind words and response to this song. I'm afraid the vocal work is pretty primitive - I'm just recording myself doing some ooh's and aah's and such, and cutting them into little beat-sized portions. Then a bit of L...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

Cybronica, I have questions about the BSS review. What part sounds like Come On Eileen? What does "Even come inside are reminiscent of it" mean? And what is the "c&p canon"? Your palindrome reminds me very strongly of the tu-ra-lu-ra section. The other two lines are victims ...

Say what?

Insert lengthy discussion of coincidence, reference, homage, and plagiarism here

jeez
Are you part of elks of the economy? Fair, I know you got the short end of my reviews stick this week. I’ll listen extra long to your floating in the water and give it a longer review.

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Two "Floating In the Water"

Here are some off-the-cuff reviews: Mandibles - vocals sounding very muffled. i'm not sure what's going on with the drums but they sound like they were made for a totally different song and don't even seem to be in sync with the guitars and vocals? the drums are low key ruining the song. soprano so...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

Finally getting round to these, since we don’t have the next challenge yet. Once again in order of the judge who liked Mandibles best: Moss Palace: I love the funky groove on this track. The brown on the bass is delicious. The “Ooh Caesar “ moment is stunning. The whole chorus is great. The mix is w...

Re: Nur Ein XVII Round Two - Floating in the Water

Floating in the water By Manidbles A bottle came a-bobblin’ by Brighton Beach a-wobblin’; I fished it out with careful hands As I sailed past England. The glass was cloudy emerald And sparked something ephemeral Within my heart so curious I abandoned all injurious Thoughts of caution to the wind And...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

I did it, I wrote reviews! Mandibles - I love that main riff and how it sounds like it's being played on harpsichord. Nivs and I were listening to this in the car and he said it sounds like something from Hair, I totally agree. This is really good for Mandibles, whose aesthetic doesn’t usually jibe...

Nur ein x7 0 I finally wrote out my reviews! Sorry it took so long. The order is the score of the judge who liked mandibles the most: Vom vorton: Great concept, and really feeds into the challenge well! I love that vocoder sound you got going there. This is a really lovely song. The high note you do...

Loudness recs? I'd get a simple limiter like loudmax and the youlean loudness meter. Limit your track until it's comparable to other tracks or you can render and see what youlean tells you. Then adjust and render again to get close to your goal. (For instance, it's been recommend around -13 LUFS he...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Zero "Friday the 13th"

Thank you to everyone writing reviews! I hope to crank some out later this week! Mandibles : I feel if somebody had described this to me before I'd heard it I'd expect to like it. A Beatles-esque piano jaunt that segues into a Hit-the-road-Jack style middle section. But the truth is this is painful ...

Re: Put your hands together for the (All Time Best reviews)

Mandibles : I like your chorus. I like the guitars. I like your bridge. I like that you've perverted the title lyrically. That's cool. Side note: Your songs tend to be a bit more quiet than most of the other songs. I don't know if that means anything. Hmm yes it means I’m still trying to crack the ...

Thank you to everyone who has written a review! I am in awe of you because I was not able to gather myself enough to write any! Re: Why rock the boat when you can dive in (Head First reviews)

Mandibles - Oooh, lush layered vocals. The doubled telephone vocals on “falling head first into the end” are super effective. And that spacey ending, very cool. I like this one a lot! I'm very glad you caught the 'spaciness' of the end - we were going for the sonic equivalent of when something gets...
