I made one of those last month based on his specs. I'll post a photo if anyone cares. Bought the box from target.com and the foam online, then the small mic stand from musicians friend.
Used this on my client no 9 entry.

Re: analog and digital
take note I'm on a fostex 8-track now and it's working so much better.
I got the violin tracks, all individual tracks, as .wavs - also there are some fake synth strings in the mix to add depth in certain spots.

Re: analog and digital
I wanted to add that even if I wanted to record directly analog I couldn't in this case. The violin player is in another country. Again all for fun, just playing with a new toy.

Re: analog and digital
IN this version..
Piano is 100% digital. Strings were recorded from digital, to analog, then brought back to digital and mixed with the piano.

So.. what do we think?

Re: analog and digital
I will try that test for you just give me a day or so. FYI there is one small section where I have real violin mixed with synth. I did that to add depth but the fake is deep inside the mix. Everything else is real violin(s) not played by me however I did write the arrangement. Any other thoughts/sug...

Re: analog and digital
Hi, thanks for everyones input on this. Just as an FYI I have a really expensive protools system that I won't stop using. My experiment(s) would always involve both systems. I'm just looking for a cool process to create a great sounding track. I should be getting my 8-track back with in a week and I...

Re: analog and digital
Some friends of mine put out a double CD called Real to Reel and recorded all analog last year. They swore by the "warmness" and convinced me to play around with it. Fast forward to a couple months ago they were digging thru old tapes putting together a box set. They didn't had an 8 track ...

That's a good point, I'll see about that. In the meantime email me eddie@liquidcodedesign.com and I'll look up your info.

Re: analog and digital
No I didn't feel the need to record directly to tape since It's pretty much just digital piano anyhow. Feeding protools thru the reel would sound exactly the same in my little mind. Yeah there are strings there too but keep in mind I have 2 reel to reels.. this experiment was done with a single trac...

Re: analog and digital
. Is it warmer then the digital .. you tell me. You can hear a bit of hum at the start of the tape version, but I would definitley consider the tape version as softer sounding, and yes, a bit wamer. The notes may not be as well defined or as articulate as on the digital version, though. I think the...

Re: can I get input from everyone on a web site I'm making?
Just a visual layout observation - that "send a message to ultimate band" block you have over on the left side of several of the screens may be confusing to some people who think it is to be used to respond to the project they're looking at. I'd suggest just a smallish "site feedback...

Sounds better but still a bit if noise in the background. Is it warmer then the digital .. you tell me.

Re: analog and digital
I don't think you're going to get that warm tape feeling from JUST digitally producing a mix, then recording the final mix on tape and bringing it back. Tape compression and all the rest is cumulative, so laying down tracks, bouncing and mixing in the analog domain brings its essence to the party. ...

Re: can I get input from everyone on a web site I'm making?
All good points. I agree with the real name thing. That will go away. I tested the email me password feature and it did work. But either way I'm going to add a email confirmation for new members. Only makes sense. I am also trying to figure out the paid and free thing. I'd like it if songfight peopl...

Re: can I get input from everyone on a web site I'm making?
Understood however the system automatically emails people of interest based on the instruments they play when projects are posted so having them all in a database makes that possible. People will spell things differently and such.

Re: can I get input from everyone on a web site I'm making?
Thanks for taking a look. Yeah another thought I had was a rating with 1-5 then posting their average rating on their profile. So much I want to add but I wanted to get the basics completed and live to make sure people are gonna use this first. By all means keep the suggestions coming in.
