songfight covers / hxaro archive

Post by king_arthur »

I've mentioned this a couple places already, but I guess this is the official announcement...

JB has given his okay for songfight.net to host covers - one songfighter covering another songfighter's song. We're still waiting for somebody to work up a slick interface for submissions, but in the meantime, he has given me an ftp account, and I have been working on uploading all the stuff I have copies of, and generating index pages in various forms.

http://www.songfight.net/covers/

At this point, I'm limiting this to covers of songs from SF titles - covers of songs from AADs, Nur Ein, etc. are not included. At some point they may be. I'm pretty sure that covers of non-songfighter songs (stuff from GOM, etc.) will not be included, if only for copyright reasons.

Anyway: please take a look at the stuff I have up so far... I have not yet entered in everything that's already listed in the sidefights archive; I'm working on that. In the meantime...

- if you can point me to a working link for any of the songs on the "needed" page, please do so... if you have a copy but nowhere to post it, PM me, and if I don't get it anywhere else, I can give you my email address...

- if you have done covers of other SF songs, or if people have done covers of your songs, and they're not in the list, please post title / original artist / cover artist information here (with a working link if you have one, but even if you don't, please list the song so we can start looking for it).

- every cover song should have a working link to the cover version, the original version and the page for the fight. if you come across broken links, please post that and I'll clean them up.

- if I capitalized your name and you don't want it capitalized or something like that... let me know.

- if you feel like doing some covers of SF songs... this would be a good time!

The point of this whole exercise is that a lot of self-hosted covers get lost when the individual artist loses their website or needs the space for something else... by capturing these things on songfight.net, they will hopefully be available as long as songfight! is around.

Thanks,
Charles (KA)

Hey KA, I found some random stuff lying about on my hard drive:

Bolio covers J$ "Mission Accomplished" here

Feldspar covers Brody "Shreds" here

Glenn Case covers Frankie Big Face "Run Free" here

J$ covers Hell Yeahs "So Kind Stacy" here

Jack Shite covers Caravan Ray "Please the Pig" here

Some others that I know about:

Paco del Stinko covers Starfinger "Twin Kiss" here

Starfinger covers Heuristics Inc. "Rattle" here

Oops, I need to go to work - I'll probably send more later.

I have all of the j$ hxaro on my laptop if you're still missing some.

Also, I found my original sequencer file for SKS and I would really like to remix / master this cover. KA, Can you not use this one, or at most put it in as a placeholder 'til I can get a better version?

See I listen to this old version now, and seeing as it has no mastering / little in the wat of mixing skills, and as it's my favourite sof song of all time, i should take the chance to do it justice.

Hope you udnerstand!

Great work!

I hadn't noticed there were THREE covers of my Space Cadet. I better put that song back in my set list.

Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff also covered Octothorpe's My Sister: http://kni.songhole.org/mp3s/Archive/My_Sister.mp3 and Raised by Wolves' Poison Pill: http://kni.songhole.org/mp3s/webdisk/KensSDBnS_PP.mp3

I also covered Steve Durand's Crack in My Heart: http://kni.songhole.org/ross/Ken-CrackinMyHeart.mp3

Loyalty Day covered 15-16 Puzzle's Secrets: http://kni.songhole.org/mp3s/LD/LoyaltyDay_Secrets.mp3

I just saw that you wanted my cover of Erik's Someone Wants to Date You: http://kni.songhole.org/mp3s/webdisk/Ke ... 6-Erik.mp3

Enjoy!

"Sincerity Machine" by Hip Cola (Glenn Case)

"Field Day" by Phunt (Def Author)

"Don't You" by CRay and the Dirty Croutons (Rone)

Still waiting for the Redmon Hxaro, what about the Covermaster one? I wouldn't blame you for not doing that one, it was massive...

Thanks to everybody... I will get these downloaded and uploaded this evening or tomorrow. Yes, I have some form of RAR decoder...

I said before that I haven't been including non-SF-title songs in the online resource, but I am collecting them for future use, so that's why some non-SF-title songs may appear in the "needed" list. I'll probably work out some way of including these eventually...

I do intend to go through all the stuff on the "sidefights" page and copy it into the songfight.net archive. A lot of the early stuff seems to be on the octothorpe-related pages, so I'm working on other stuff first. If there were any sidefights / coverfights that AREN'T listed on the sidefights page, I'm interested in knowing about those, too.

Hey -

Just updated the cover archive, more songs and more indexery.

I know that there are some things that are split up due to perl not considering "of" and "Of" to be the same word, etc., and I'll get to that. Also, anything that is listed in the "Sidefights Archive" (which, BTW, does not seem to include the Phil Redmon hxarofest) will be incorporated here eventually.

I haven't gone through Glenn's page above, and I'm not sure if I picked up CR covers BLT posted just above...

In the meantime...

if you are aware of any "songfighter covering a songfight song" songs that I don't have here, or if you can point me to a working .mp3 link for songs on my "needed" list, please post in this thread...

if you find any actual broken links here, please post in this thread.

Thanks,
Charles (KA)

Mr. Cashpoint requested that I hold off until he could provide a remixed version. I have the one you posted about, in case the improved one never shows up :-)

Ok, KA... sorry, I missed that.

Do you want live versions of people's songs from e.g. SF Live or Presents?
