Friday night I saw David Cross and Bob Odenkirk. Saturday night I fell asleep when the kids did. Sunday morning though, I finished it off and turned it in. I suppose I should listen a lot and consider tweaking the mix over the week. It's pretty likely that I'll leave it be.

I'm excited to hear everyone's work!

Update on my hard drive situation. After trying BLT's suggestion about 50 times ... I realized the drive had come unplugged from my desktop. LOL! I swear, you cannot make this stuff up people. Life is funny.

All done except for a couple rounds of final mix tweaking, I think. I hope my coveree likes it. I've got drums, shaker, tambourine, bass, acoustic guitars, electric picked and slide guitars, vibes, and a half dozen vocal tracks. Maybe I went overboard...

Anyway, I'm very excited to hear what everybody came up with. I think the BSS entry is really solid, and I've heard Ken and Glennny's covers too and they sound great. This should be awesome!

You must be covering Glen.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

OK, everything's recorded now. Time for the slop-to-song process.

I don't even know if I'll be able to convert this slop into a song.

And I still can't sing for shit.

Nevertheless, I intend on being in before Niv wakes up tomorrow.

EDIT: In. Still not really sold on this mix job, so I might rework it. Let me know if something seems glaringly "wrong."

Ken.

That. Was. Awesome.

Even better than the original. Hearing someone else sing that is really cool. It's always been my favorite of the songs I've written while at songfight! It's really awesome that you picked it, and pulled it off so amazingly. I really like the extra bars at the end, where everything comes back, and the little solo notes are perfect. All around well done. Man. So good.

Mr. Cogott: When I saw that you had chosen 'Ring Them Bells' I was almost kinda bummed. I have many goofy songs, and that one has to be near the top of the list, at least performance-wise. But man, you improved it a million per-cent! I totally love it and am blown away by the excellent vocal and guitar work. The whole mop top meets Saturday morning cartoon feel is absolutely fantastic. Great arrangement, great production, great performance. I am proud of my gift and very impressed by your talents. Thank you so very much. Humbly yours, Paco.

I'm glad you liked it. Picking this song was a no-brainer for me. A song about driving, whiskey, and cigarettes? Those are my favorite things to write about! Its a good song that just needed orchestration to really shine. I thought the outro at the end would be cool and I'm happy to see you agree.

Enjoy!

Great job all those who submitted!
I'm digging through the archives making myself a playlist of all the originals. I find it fun to compare. Is there someone with the know how that might make a playlist of the originals on this thread? Just a thought.
I'm especially liking the Manhattan Glutton cover of Ken's song, but that was the song I was most familiar with off the bat. Very well done MG!

Yes! MG - Thank you for making a great cover of a good song. I'm especially glad you picked a less well known song of mine. THANK YOU!!!

I have made a playlist that contains these covers paired with their originals.

Great job turning "Paper Thin" into a nice westerny ballad, Sam! Hopefully Rabid Garfunkel and his Morricone-loving self will get to hear it. He's been hard to reach as of late, but I think he would enjoy this as much as I did if not more. "Paper Thin" is his song all the way, I essentially just played on it.

As far as my entry, I am going to rework it. I plan on reigning in that bass that seems to be overpowering everything, and also trying a wee bit of pitch correction on the vox. (My singing is fundamentally flawed? No way!!)

No way, the bass is awesome. You really gave it a new way to hear it. I love it. It's like Weird Al covering a Filter song. So I say, nice shot, man! :)

Thanks! Sorry I didn't wind up picking a song that was more "yours". "Paper Thin" just jumped out at me when I started going through stuff. I felt like it had the most potential for me to put my own spin on it.

I thought your entry sounded great! I think those changes would make it even better though. Good job!
