Another thread about fake drums

Post by Sober »

I sold my Motif EX last year like an idiot, which supplied me with all the drums and other stuff I could ever want. Currently I use ez drummer for all my realistic kit needs. The standard and vintage kits satisfy most requirements very well. I now lack a good solution for electronic and hip hop sounds. What I'm looking for is a sample collection that is pre-mapped to a midi roll, i.e. I can trigger the samples with my midi keyboard. VST or DX is fine, and the more versatility the better. I have Reason, but I don't use it. Every time I open it, I say 'this program looks fucking retarded' and close it. I use Cubase 5 for everything.

I'm about to get Superior Drummer, we'll see if that comes with anything useful. Other suggestions?

Maybe try Battery. I've heard good things from Starfinger.

Get over your problems with Reason. It's the last sampler you'll ever need. If the presets aren't good enough there are a million expansion and sample packs you can download for free or buy for real cheap. I use it for everything I'm not recording with a microphone.

Check out these VSTi's http://www.dskmusic.com/

I downloaded a free drum machine that has a ton of vintage drum machines. Very cool.

yes. Reason. For hippity-hop sounds, plug in a ReDrum and sample away. Rewire it to Cubase to you can mix it all properly.

I just noticed this last night...

Amazon.com still has a few copies of SuperiorDrummer 2.0 at a severely marked-down $150. If you're using a drum machine or are unsatisfied with your MIDI drums, this might be the solution!

My bass player friend uses superior drummer exclusively in his studio. It's perfect if you are doing an album and you want a pro sounding finished product. It's a bit involved, but easier to use than BFD, in my opinion, with as good or better results in the end.

I've recently updated my Discrete Drums library, which I really like because I can either use stock loops to piece together for a fast drum track for something I need to flesh out. Or spend some time and build my drum tracks for a finished album worthy production.

Yeah, I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.

I haven't quite gotten used to Superior Drummer yet, but I do have something to show for my first two hours tinkering with it.

Personally, I am very impressed. Plus, the way I figure, it'll only get better as I get used to programming in this interface.

I should also mention that for drums I use Guru, but that's a different style interface and it may not be what Sober's looking for. But I like it a lot.
