They're one time throughers, but this worked out well for me time-wise. Only took three beers, too!
Adam Adamant - Just a hint of unsteadiness but cool low-key groove. Good job layering, keeping it pretty simple and complimentary to the other parts. I like the distorted and broken bit rate textures, but just as I was tiring of the song, it ended kind of abrubtly.
Barrels, Leaves & Strings - I love the loopy sweetness of this. Some of it's not weird enough, but it's deliciously hooky, and right when you think the chord progression is too 'normal' it takes a nice turn. This one makes my body release some kind of happy chemicals.
Blues Manufacturing Facility - Right out of an out-take scene from Easy rider until it flys throught the 70's for a visit to Tron Town. You guys should call yourselves The Leg Pulling Manufacturing Facility. I like how crisp it gets, anyway, but it could use a trim.
The Boiler Room - I like to hear stuff like this, but not necessarily listen to it. Almost laughing at the returning voice, almost telling it to piss off. The distorted guitar tone was nice.
The Booty Chesterfield Trio - Sweaty balls good. This is raunchy and hungover at the same time making for a fucking yourself with the cure joyfest. Great charge and self destruction at the end, love the recording and all the instrument sounds as well, this is some of if not the best Booty that I've heard.
David Lost - Sincere, if too much, almost. I see a blond guy with a tan leather jacket and a long scarf singing this at a brick walled bar somewhere downtown. Well it'd be better if I were the person you were actually singing about. Not that I want to be that person, no offense.
Eddie Lance - A couple of those things are me, but not too many. Nice strong, simple lines. I would like this better with visuals supplied to me as well, but it's nice and simple and strong. Not simple like dumb, but lean or to the point. Oh! I remember you saying who does your vocal work now. Neat.
Emperor Pilaf - Who gave MC Eric B all the caffeine? Help him! Help him! Animated and rapid-fire delivery is good, but as fast as it all goes, where does it go? Do the nerd thing over some totally sleazy music. That'd be fun.
The Idiot Kings - I like the hesitant beat and high ooh vocals much. Mmm. Excellent smoosheroo from the clean and lean first section. The coldish vocal works well. Maybe a more fleshed out end section? Nice work though, certainly.
Jach S - Love the classic guitar rock intro, that's very nice. Obviously, this is craving a band treatment. It has good energy and basic melody ideas, but feels scratch pad-ish. Stonse-y feel can save the day.
Jim Tyrrell - Good shifty groove, dig the skip in the beat. The creeping menace works well instead of a dissonant slam. Makes me think of a slightly blurry 80's video, seen later at night. There's a bit of boozey raunch in here too.
Leaf and Twig - Nice and crispy, and not ouchily biting. The vocal sounds confident and clear if not blow you away exciting, but well balanced as well. Like in, overdubs and accenting lines. The rhythms are good and tense, but the guitars and especially the great lead, deliver the goods best here.
Lockheed Symphony with Gritty Teeth - Noisy fun, I like some of the vocal lines. Smart enough not to go on for what would seem like hours allows this to survive for longer than it would otherwise. I like the arrangement.
Lord of Oats - Good wobbily delivered tune, the instrumentation works very well. The vocal lines are decent, if unsteadily deivered, and the progression and guitar lines aren't over done. I like broken carousel songs.
Max The Cat - Solo spot on you, man. Cool and captivating, it's closer to delicate than it is to moodiness. The guitar lines/work is wonderful and the nearly one note melody is often perfect as it allows different feelings to create themselves around it. Very nice.
MC Paul Denyer - You're good and not good at the same time. The rhythm and flutey-loops are fantastic and the 'da-doo-de-doos' are classic, but a verse or two less or trimmed would create less drag later on. Good clear recording too.
Meat Knob - The overlapping voices sound good over the chugging rhythm, but get to be too nuch early on. I like the psychotic feel at mid-point, but it's all a bit too washy on top in the long run. Sounds like an experiment, maybe.
Melvin - Church (not the band) song meets Pixies. I like the classic Melvin hesitation prior to the distorted guitars coming into the classic Melvin chorus. Voice sounds good here; loose and a little higher up maybe. Song is a little pouty for me maybe, but a good one.
Mime - My goodness. I hope I don't get stuck in there. A bit of a charge to much of the vocal delivery though it feels stiff on the chorus part, especially, at times. I like the loop enough, and am enjoying the lo-fi feel. Not too keen on the wishing death stuff.
Northside Hindus - OK, it's slowed down sounding drums, but where's the rest of it. Beat is alright, if way sloppy.
Paco del Stinko - Intonation problems, amongst the other usual suspects. Didn't start recording this one until the day before it was due. I have no idea what it is about, but the lyrics are posted if you need to see them.
RattPoizon - Now here, I like the slowed down sounding drums, even if the whole thing gets woozy feeling early on. Good ugly main riff, the vocals are appropriately creepy. Although not for casual listening, I enjoy your epic sludge-o-ramas, and am glad that you returned.
RioMondo - The way loose spirit of this is fun, if scattershot. More fun for its creators than the audience here, I can appreciate the in-joke-ed-ness of this but that's about it. Crazy guitar shreddage though. Crazy, man!
Steve Durand - Need a straw hat and striped jacket when you perform this, but the melody is pretty solid, the horns are nice, as always, but the chord progressions here are great. And where did we just go in that dark electric part? There's so much going on here it borders on busy but I like it.
Surf Rock Manufacturing Facility - Surfing transformer robots. Well, the music has a decent tone although it's wandery. Almost sounds bored at times like you said "aw, what the hell. I might as well record an involved but apathetic surf song."
Thanks for the Frisbee - Some of this is very familiar, from you, sounding. I like the lyrics here, particularly the losing weight verse. The electric is a nice touch when it holds back a little, like earlier on. Easy going attitude sells as well.
TV's Kyle - Sounds like a summer fun-time song at an in the sun party deck. Good party fun, that is. It's only missing the na-na-na-na-na-nas at the end.
Wages - I like the guitar work best here as the background vocals sound a little too scruffy. Right intention, wrong execution. The major to minor change on the guitar, along with the lead vocal, are quite effective.
The Weakest Suit - The voice leaping to the clouds is nice and delicate, takes off all sunny and happy. I like the tempo change and chord work, if not all of that changes' progression, the transition back into the main part was a subtle 'whoa'. This feels a little more sure of itself than other recent entries.
The Worldly Self-Assurance - Great start. That guitar line is like a hurdy-gurdy sound and mystic call or something, and the distinctive voices, by mouth and/or guitar, are each excitingly welcome as they announce themselves. This is like folkier poppish Yes that I'd actually want to listen to. Well balanced and not lopsided at all, this was a big boost at the end of the fight especially. Right on!

I had to keep changing the bit rate or whatever to make the file as small as possible..... and it still took 2 hours to upload! Knobber- This song reminds me of walking down the Generic Food aisle in the early 80s grocery stores.
Frisbee-terian- Is this a Shonen Knife song at half speed?
Rice Pilaf- Reminds me of a Rice-a-Roni commercial in the middle of an mission impossible episode.
Eddie- Sounds like this has been done before. I don’t know if it has, but it just sounds that way.
Lockwood Gritty Throw up- Could get past the first five seconds. Hey, a song that long works sometimes….cuz what are you gonna do to this tune? Iron clothes?

So I've never posted any reviews before and wow ... reviewing this many songs was pretty daunting. But I'm finally done. So here you go! Good work everybody!
Surf Rock Manufacturing Facility - Wow, everything is pretty awesome about this except the vocals. I don't know if they are supposed to be funny or scary, but they are neither to me. Seriously some cool music in here, and I even like the crazy-ass bridge.
Jim Tyrrell - This sounds like some kick ass music for a really good indie film. Very cool Jim. Sorry I don't have anything more constructive to say. I just like it. Wait, it sounds like you are doing your own
backup vocals, I'd like that more if the two voices sounded a little bit more different ... er .. ish.
David Lost - This sounds very professional. Not my type of music exactly, but I am digging the lyrics. I like your voice too. It's not as mainstream sounding as the rest of the music. Nicely done.
Barrels, Leaves & Strings - Alright, this is awesome right from the start, and the vocals caught me off guard for several seconds, but then they started to grow on me pretty quick. I like it, it makes me feel strange ... in a good way.
Jach S - This is kicking all kinds of ass straight away! The vocals don't seem to fit with the music so well. Not that they aren't good, they just don't seem to have the same recording quality as the guitar. Not that they both aren't good ... I guess I can't really explain it. The vocals might just be a bit loud maybe, and don't seem to have as much energy. I still like this a lot. I listened to that intro quite a few times.
The Worldly Self-Assurance - I like this. The drums sound really good. I don't like the backup vocals on "the time or the place", but the lead vocals are nice. Cool, as soon as I'm getting comfortable, it speeds up, and I like that. The second guy singing by himself is cool, but the two voices don't harmonize very well.
Adam Adamant - I like the idea of this song, I'm just not feeling it. The "organ" is a little loud ... and repetitive. Like I said, I like the weird feeling, but it's just not doing it for me. Sorry I can't be more help.
Emperor Pilaf - The music is pretty sweet, and I like your rap voice, but the rapping rhythm is a little ... off. I think you need to put a pause in there every once in a while. It's kind of ... un-relenting. But maybe that's what you're going for. It makes me a little anxious.
The Idiot Kings - You've got the "Songfight Voice". That's not a bad thing, there just seem to be a lot of people on here who sound like this. A little nasally, and gruff, but smooth at the same time. Singers outside of Songfight just don't sound like that. Anyway, the haunting backup vocals are pretty awesome. I like the distorted guitar when it comes in. Reminds me of old Foo Fighters, when they were still cool. I'm liking this. The switch back from the, I guess, bridge, is a little awkward to me.
Leaf and Twig - The guitar totally makes this song. It's fucking awesome. I've gotta say the opposite thing I said about Emperor Pilaf, you've got some cool rap rhythm's, but your rap voice is not so cool. No offense, mine isn't either. Seriously, this guitar is rocking my face off.
The Weakest Suit - Here's the "Songfight Voice" again. Nice! This reminds me of Steve Burns (of Blues Clues) music (not from the show). I hope that isn't an insult, because I really enjoyed his CD. This is good, it's got a nice relaxing vibe to it. It took a while to grow on me, but it did.
Meat Knob - I have to say, I didn't expect anything less than this amount of craziness from a band with the name Meat Knob. This sounds like video game music. Like Duke Nukem music. This isn't something I'd ever just sit and listen to, but if the zombie apocalypse ever happens, and I need to hit the streets with a chainsaw or shotgun, you can bet this will be on my MP3 playlist. You know, I didn't think I was going to like this at first, but I ended up listening to it again.
Paco del Stinko - I like how this song just gets going. Nice bass, that really fleshes it out. I like these vocals a lot. This reminds me of something by The Aquabats. The bridge I am not feeling so well, because the rest of the song was a lot of fun. I suppose the idea of a bridge is to bring some change into a song, but that was a little too much change for me. Overall though, Good job, I like this song a lot!
Thanks for the Frisbee - This is good. I really like the singing melody in the verse more than the chorus, but the harmonizing is cool. I think some light drums could have added a lot to this song. Sorry I don't have more to say. This is a really enjoyable listen.

Do you guys see what I'm saying? Anyway, the drums are a little loud. I don't like the chorus vocals so much, but the verses are good. Turn down the drums a little, and the chorus might be better with some good backup vocals.
Wages - Vocals are nice, and the lyrics are really good. Again, I don't like the chorus as much as the verse though. I also don't enjoy the echo-y backup vocals. This was a nice listen overall though. Pretty short, but that's not always bad. Especially when there are this many songs to review!
The Booty Chesterfield Trio - The feedback on the beginning seems cliche and pointless, but once it starts, I really got into this song. The video for this song would probably be in black and white and involve skateboarding. The vocals start of strong and awesome, but get too quiet right away. I think they could have been normalized a bit, they are all over the place, but other than that they are cool and definitely fit with the music. This is another one I wouldn't necessarily sit and listen to, but it's good soundtrack music for ... something. The guitar solo gets out of control! In a good way.
Max The Cat - This is recorded really well, with some good guitar playing. This just isn't my style of music, so I won't say much, because my bias would effect my comments. I do like the guitar playing a lot though.
Blues Manufacturing Facility - Almost exactly like the Manufacturing Facility for Surf Rock, this music is really good, and the vocals pretty much ruin it. Then it goes crazy with samples that don't fit. Wait .. this part is getting better. The transition was not good, but it starts to get a pretty cool rhythm. This changes to much to really be enjoyed at all. If some of these things had been separate songs, they could have been better.
Northside Hindus - Drum samples! Or maybe they aren't, I can't tell. Alright! This is taking a while to get going ... wait, it never does. The scream on the end was the best part.
Lockheed Symphony with Gritty Teeth - I hope this changes pretty soon. I think the gritty clipping madness would have worked for a couple second intro, but for a whole song? Some of the things the voice says is pretty funny. I guess this might be a lot cooler if I was tripping balls. But alas, I'm not. I've only got a headache, and this is making it worse.
Mime - I thought this was going to be one of those songs, that had some cool music that sounds like it's playing over a phone, and then all of a sudden some kick ass drums come in, and then the cool music gets kicked up to sounding like it's playing in real life, instead of over a phone. This is some cool background music, that would be a lot cooler with some meat to it. This is the worst rapping ever, I'm sorry. If you made this music (not just loops) you should stick to that. Rapping is not for you, and you are not for rapping.
Eddie Lance - This is awesome! This song seriously just makes me smile. The spoken voice parts are really well done. I don't have a lot to say, sorry. I did like this very much though.
RioMondo - Umm ... what is this bullshit? Stop talking! God, get to the song already! FUCK! Sorry guys, this intro did go even a bit longer than our normal fare. It had been a long long while since we made a RioMondo song, so it took a bit to get back into, but I think this turned out sounding RioMondo-ish. Weather or not that is a good thing, I will let you decide for yourselves. I think the chorus is catchy.
Steve Durand - Horns = awesome! I like these lyrics, but the vocals did take a bit of getting used to. The whistling solo is amazing! More people need to do that. And the horns are back! Again, these lyrics are really good. The chorus vocals could use a little more energy. This is very different, and a lot of fun. Thanks!

RattPoizon - This is definitely not my genre, but as far as I can tell it is well done. I like the bass part, and the strange drumming rhythms are cool. Sorry I can't say more, it's just not for me guys. It's recorded well, and I really like the drums.
MC Paul Denyer - A lot of rapping this week. That "flute" makes me want to light my head on fire, and put it out with a hammer! It seems like the rapping might be alright with some decent music. I'm sorry, I can't hear that "flute" anymore, I have to turn this off.
Melvin - Is this a previously un-released Weezer soundtrack. I don't mean that as an insult, I'm a huge Weezer fan, and this is really well made. But this sounds a LOT like Weezer, from the tempo, and the vocals, right down to the guitar distortion. Other than that (again, not that it's bad, just familiar) I like this song a lot. I've listened to it a few times now.
Surf Rock Manufacturing Facility - Wow, everything is pretty awesome about this except the vocals. I don't know if they are supposed to be funny or scary, but they are neither to me. Seriously some cool music in here, and I even like the crazy-ass bridge.

lord of oats- i love the music behind this one. the bass plays along with the accordion and drums quite well. i don't particularly mind the pitchyness of the vocals, but if you sang a bit louder, it would solve the issue. bonus points for lyrics en francais. nice lead guitar work. i really like this despite the vocals.
wages- the lyrics are pretty amusing, and i love the off-balance background vocals. nice use of the title. i'll probably keep this.
david lost- i really wish this developed more...your voice here reminds me a lot of james blunt, and i would be lying if i said i considered him any more talented than the drunkard who i see singing on the green line train every now and then.
the worldly self-assurance- great drum sound! i like the vocals during the second verse...reminds me a bit of bloc party. the tones are great, and there's excellent usage of fairly simple ideas with complex embellishments. definite keeper, possible vote.
lockheed symphony with gritty teeth- "give me money or i'll give you lice" is something i've never heard before. i really dig this, you've got mad programming skills, and skinny puppy and kraftwerk are two of my all time favorite bands. this is a keeper, but probably not a vote.
mime- the music is pretty awesome, but way too buried. the vocals are a bit jumbled, but the lyrics are not bad. the (comparatively) distractingly loud vocals are making this tough for me to listen to, especially when the backing track is very cool. a little disappointing, but i'd love to hear a remix.
surf rock manufacturing facility- so many manufacturing facilities these days. you need to compress those vocals to hell if they're gonna be that effected. i dig the backing track quite a bit, especially with the seeming random bits that come in over everything. i really, really like the out of tune oscillator-esque lead part.
jim tyrrell- nice ambience from the getgo. what do you use to program drums? honestly, i feel like the drum sounds are all that's holding this song back; if you had slightly better drum tones a bit louder in the mix, this would be excellent. otherwise, great performance, great arrangement (especially with the dissonant guitar harmonies).
barrels, leaves, and strings- this got my attention immediately. i've been trying to get this bass tone forever...how did you do it? overall, this reminds me a bit of sean lennon. the melodies are impeccable, and the vocals are perfectly in tune without any noticeable hints of autotune. the arrangement is one of the best i've heard in songfight. definite keeper, possible vote. awesome!
the booty chesterfield trio- i really love the garagey recording, but the song itself isn't doing anything for me. there's no discernable hooks anywhere.
the weakest suit- this is pretty. a beatles-esque melody with a tasteful selection of vocal effects. this is a nice, clean, recording, if a bit jumbled every now and then. i like the changes, but this isn't particularly grabbing me.
rattpoizon- short of the hitting the snare side, this is probably the legitimately heaviest song i have heard on songfight before. this reminds me a bit of machines of loving grace, especially with the bass effect. i don't love the vocals; i feel like by doing the growly "not quite alice in chains but still better than godsmack" thing, you're selling the song short. you could've belted something out or even done more of a melody in the lower register to better effect. i like the changes a lot; the tempo shift happened exactly as i was starting to get bored. but it goes right back to the beginning part. the recording is great, and the instrumental portion is pretty cool. but the music, lyrics, and melody do not grab me collectively or individually. i'd be curious to know how you recorded this.
adam adamant- this isn't bad, but i feel like the vocals really need some effects or something. this is a fairly dry recording, and the vocals are suffering because of the dryness. nothing here is grabbing me, sorry.
northside hindus- i like this much better than last week's entry. although i do have to question what this realistically has to do with the title. if you could have made something rhythmically over the top "just to be difficult", i may have bought it. i'm not so sure about this entry.
blues manufacturing facility- the intro vocal sound is awful. they're as unclear as possible with effects added to boot...why add them at all? the changes make me much happier, however. and i know now that you can actually record vocals. i dig the programming. i do love the atonalness of the rest of it, but i really dislike the first bit enough to not consider this a keeper. any chance of an edit?

steve durand- i like the lazy horn section, but the rest of this is a bit trite for me. it basically sounds like background music for the three stooges with vocals. nice, clean recording, though.
leaf and twig- this is more primus than bungle, and i really wish that were reversed. great recording, again, even if the vocals are primus-style annoying to me. how do you record?
jach s- i worked at a sub shop in high school that played one of those classic rock stations that played the same exact songs every day. this reminds me of that, and there's so much negative association i can't possibly comment fairly. however, i do like the recording itself. i was really hoping for this to build up with more instruments...

mc paul denver- conversely to emperor pilaf, this is an example of a messier nerdcore song. half of hip hop is the rhythm, and when the rhythm is buried, then it's essentially noises weaving in and out with quietly-recorded-but-pushed-in-the-mix vocals. it's hard to listen to a song when a crucial element is almost entirely absent.
paco del stinko- is this guitar line a loop? it’s a little annoyingly obvious if it is, and if it isn’t, it’s a little annoying by nature. that said, i like the progressions and arrangement of this. the lead fills are pretty cool. there seems to be a bit of dirt overall on the recording, as if levels were too hot going in or if the mix bus was overdriven; it’s not awful, but it would be better if it were cleaner. overall a decent tune.
max the cat- well written and beautifully recorded. i’ve got nothing else to say. keeper.
eddie lance- i would have enjoyed this more with a shatner-esque delivery. i must ask; did you really play piano or is that midi? i’m just being difficult (bah-dum-bah).
melvin- pretty standard indie pop fare. i don’t love the electric guitar tones, but that’s a pretty small complaint. decent tune overall, but nothing’s grabbing me.
riomondo- um, this isn’t really a song, per se. sounds more like a couple of people just hanging out occasionally playing music. at any rate, you need some vocal compression like it’s nobody’s business.

Idiot King - The guitar line is annoying by nature. And by way of explanation versus excuse regarding dirt, I recorded the song the day before due and mixed on the day due. I'm not sniveling or complaining by any means, I appreciate your comments.
Also: EQ and compression are still often challenging to me, and I'm using new to me compressor plug-ins (I record on a Roland all in one jobby, it's perfect for me) hence the dirty sound, I believe. Thanks again for your comments.
