Life (Keith Richards)
I can't believe no one has mentioned this book (or did I miss it?). An entertaining read, if you don't mind the constant braggadocio and the occasional tasteless slagging of Brian Jones. (The slagging of Mick is just fun, of course.) Told with an intimacy that a discerning reader might describe as "determined," it contains more memories than you thought the man could possibly retain. Lots of good tidbits for musicians. Apparently the secret is having only five strings.

This is in a pile of books that I am behind in reading. Mayber I'll move it to the top. I'll respond after I read it, whenever that turns out to be.

And yeah - I have been meaning to try out that 5-string stuff. Haven't got around to it yet. Apparently it is the secret behind the riffs (think Jumpin Jack Flash, Brown Sugar etc). And I like how he said he only ever used guitar effects once - the result was the riff for Satisfaction

I read this back in June, a birthday gift from Sam and Erin, and I really enjoyed it. To me it was what I imagine sitting around with Keith and hearing him telling you random stories about himself would be like.

I finished this about a week ago. It was fun, and Ken's remarks about him sitting around telling stories is right on. I'm sure there's a lot he didn't tell, of course, but pretty candid and often enlightening. Good read for any rock and roll folks.
