(Entry, Descent and Landing)

It’s a hard road, you need to persevere
If you ever want to get from there to here
There will be highs - there will be lows
Hardships and freedom, laughter and woes

A million things that must go right
Millions of miles across the night
Decent descent when we finally go down
Making sure in the dust we don’t drown

(chorus)
On a journey up - Drive high and true
Into the clouds - Past skies of blue
Through the darkness - cruise the expanse
A cosmic trip- a miraculous dance

Time to slow down – just give me a brake
A degree of degrees, just make no mistakes
Slim to none for any error
Counting 7 minutes of blackout terror

Chutes are open and heat shields away!
Radar confirms we might see a new day
On a distant sphere, in a different place
A different rotation as we spin through space

On a journey up - Drive high and true
Into the clouds - Past skies of blue
Through the darkness - about the expanse
A cosmic trip- a miraculous dance

Sky Crane is dropping us to the ground
Wheels almost touching now gravity bound
The rockets land us with a fiery kiss
We’ve made the leap, we feel the bliss

Checking all systems and breathing a sigh
Time to call home to say I’ve arrived
Another planet, another ground
Scream for joy without making a sound

On a journey up - Drive high and true
Into the clouds - Past skies of blue
Through the darkness - about the expanse
A cosmic trip- a miraculous dance

+++
Based on NASA's premise for '7 Minutes of Terror' - the landings of Perserverance and Curiosity on Mars - a complicated ballet to safely travel from the Earth to a screaming stop above the surface of Mars.

There seemed something magical about the journey - scary yet exciting, and it's all done by the robot - there was no second chances, and no way to adjust the landing in real time. The probe was all on its own, and it stuck the landing!

Phlub - Straight To Hell

I got a rap sheet for miles, my reputation is vile
I'm robbing you blind while I'm cracking a smile
I'll launder that money, I'll counterfeit bills
I visit my mother just to take all her pills
I've lied and I've cheated I've done what I've needed
To satisfy the demon that resides inside my heart
My soul's filled with hatin and the devil is waiting
Cause I'm going straight to hell
Going down down down

My things are all stolen, my car is hotwired
If you're hearing the siren, I started that fire
I'm a cold blooded killer, I'm murder for hire
I once shot a man just to watch him in expire
Now the judge and the jury say I'm fucked in the head
I'm a menace to others and I'm better off dead
And the devil's already reserved me a bed
Cause I'm going straight to hell
Going down down down

A Hole In The Rain
Jim Tyrrell

You know I, I don’t know why
I’d ever go outside On a day like this
But there they are, out stopping cars
In my front yard, in their Safety vests

They’ve been out there since November
Just chipping the road away
And as best I can remember
They haven’t missed a day

It don’t seem fair, someone somewhere
Decided they’re going to work today

Nobody knows
Why they’re digging a hole in the rain
Digging down down down down

When I came down, to this little town
I thought I’d found a quiet place
But as I begin to settle in
Here I am again, right back in the race

So I’m looking out the window
Thinking that was me back then
Digging my own holes not long ago
And watching them fill back in

It don’t seem right, to be forced to fight
All day and night against my fate

Nobody knows
Why they’re digging a hole in the rain
Nobody knows
Why they’re digging a hole in the rain
Digging down down down down
Down down down

Nowhere To Go But Down
Pigfarmer Jr

We take another drink from the bottle
We've been going all damn day
The waitress wants to cut us off when
We both say we're doing okay

When it's time to be heading
I see you reaching for your keys
We both knew you shouldn't be driving
But I stand and watch you leave

When you're sitting on top of the world
There's nowhere to go but down
It's a joy to learn to fly
Until you hit the ground
And I didn't want to be the reason why
You can't fly

So I flag down a taxi
Start to make my way on home
Then I hear a commotion
Try to text you on my phone

Something's wrong I hear sirens
I'm heading to the emergency room
The doctors are busy so now I'm waiting
Hoping to hear something soon

When you're sitting on top of the world
There's nowhere to go but down
It's a joy to learn to fly
Until you hit the ground
And I didn't want to be the reason why
You can't fly

When you're sitting on top of the world
There's nowhere to go but down
It's a joy to learn to fly
Until you hit the ground
And I didn't want to be the reason why
You can't fly

Low Road
Eric Novak

You take the high road, I'll take the low road
and the next time that we meet you can tell me about the view
How the skies are changing, and the light
How you see the frontier burning in the night

But as for me all I can see is the low road bending ahead
And as for me the mud and vines leave tattoos on my skin
When the new growth comes in, I see, for a moment
The grime falls away from the stem
And then I tear myself away, look out through the wild
And start myself moving again

You take the high road, I'll take the low road
The next time that we meet, we can catch up with our lives
You see the problems and the fights
The arc of history bending out of sight

But as for me all I can see are the roots that get in my way
And as for me, by the skin of my teeth I hold the troubles at bay
And if I run out of breath, and stop for a moment
The pests rush to the heat of my skin
So I gather myself, look up, through the cover
And start myself running again

If I could I would ease my mind here
If I could I would catch my breath

You take the high road, I'll take the low road
and the next time that we meet you can tell me about the view
How the skies are changing, and the light
How you see the frontier burning in the night

If I could I would ease my mind here
If I could I would catch my breath

Song Bio: Crazy Climber was a video game from 1980. It uniquely had 2 joysticks you would use to control each hand as you scaled a building whilst avoiding obstacles. Harry Loyd was a star of the silent film era. He had a film called “Safety Last”, in this film he climbs the outside of the building. It’s said that this inspired Nichibutsu in the design of the game. “Free Solo” is a 2018 documentary about a mountain climber that would climb mountains without safety gear. To fall would be fatal.

Glennny- Crazy Climber_ST21r1

Just like a Harry Lloyd film
You consider safety last
Is your delusion- you’re Spiderman?
I’m sorry I had to ask

Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber

Scale up the building
Don’t get caught
Scale up the building
Watch out for the flower pots
Scale up the building
Oh so tall
Scale up the building
Don’t you, don’t you….

Get a grip on an open window
Before the lady shuts it
You could climb a mountain “Free Solo”
Be the first one to the summit

Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber
Crazy Climber

Scale up the building
Avoid the giant ape
Scale up the building
To your escape
Scale up the building
They’re an angry group
Scale up the building
Watch out for the bird poop!

You don’t listen to fear
The voice in your head is softer
If you can survive to the top
Go and grab the helicopter

Crazy Climber

Crazy Climber

Scale up the building
Avoid the giant ape
Scale up the building
To your escape
Scale up the building
They’re an angry group
Scale up the building
Watch out for the bird poop!
Scale up the building
Don’t get caught
Scale up the building
Watch out for the flower pots
Scale up the building
Oh so tall
Scale up the building
Don’t you fall

Cavedweller_ Z-Axis
Truth: vocals, lyrics, guitar solo, harmony vocals
glennny: guitar, bass, production, pedantic snarky corrections

Z-Axis:

Verse One
To the left, to the right, side to side is very Exy
Going forth, coming back your “why?” is also very wily
All around the compass rose where you’re going no one knows
You go up and down, the mood swings come around so EZ

Pre-Chorus
Give it the college try and step up
Given your knowledge, what were you thinking of?

Chorus
When you increase your Y
You just justify farther away goodbyes.
If you’re down with holding it over me
You’re going to have to increase your Z

Verse Two
We've had a rough little patch, but there's no reason for your distance
If you’ve got my back, then backing up is inconsistent
If you’re down on the ground, You’ve got no Z
If you’re nosy you know, not to see me
If the pine is too knotty, don’t use that tree

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge
With some vertical articulation
You climbed the look out to lookout for me
You’ve been encumbered with your speculation.
You’re with A Bee above emerging Seas

Double Chorus

Atop the Sutro Tower

Got a place on Noe and Ford
in the fabulous Castro district
colorful people and automatons
in the neighborhood, you can't resist it

The mechanoids just need to plugin
They don’t mind the smaller “living” space
Just like the clones they reboot alone
They’re so clean and devoid of nearly any waste

I climb atop the Sutro Tower
(You don’t know if you’ll get caught)
Imagining what the future is down there
( rainbows and robots)

A working class of Benders and R2s
Are residing only two doors down
They keep us safe and fix everything
Life is better since they came around

Enjoyed the view from Sutro Tower
(Rainbows and Robots)
I watched fruition of that future down there
(Rainbows and Robots)

I spy a market with some fruit so ripe!
(mangos and kumquats)
I plan my life for the city tonight
( Tacos and the Noc Noc)

Optimis and some leather boys
Share a painted lady on a tiny lot
All the droids never get annoyed
With all the drama that the town has got

Tolerance and Technology
(rainbows and robots)
Happy People living with machines
(rainbows and robots)

Atop the tower, I dream these things
(rainbows and Robots)
Why did we fear a robot uprising?
(don’t know, forgot)

Aim High, Hot Pink Halo

I spent a few days this week in Paris, and dammit if that place doesn't bury itself in your soul. While there we visited Versailles, The Eiffel Tower, did a Revolution themed walking tour and observed some of the streets that have gone car free over the past few years. I posted a little video from one of those streets over on instagram and a bunch of French people actually saw it. It's definitely the first time I've had a discussion entirely in a language other than English happen on one of my posts. The first commenter suggested only tourists like the car free streets, but a handful of Parisians also came along and argued that they liked many aspects of the change and that we have to start somewhere. Aim high. I was reminded of one of the engineering principals from the Eiffel Tower (a proposal that also wasn't universally loved when it was first suggested) about Elasticity: "the ability of a body to resist a distorting influence and return to its original size and shape when that influence or force is removed". It feels like this could very much also apply to automobiles in big cities like Paris. Incidentally, the theory of elasticity in engineering and mathematics was developed by Sophie Germain, the one French mathematician whose name wasn't included on the Eiffel Tower at its unveiling.

The beat on this track is made from a recording climbing the stairs of the Eiffel Tower.

Love more
Love deep
Love the fight
For the peace
Find a piece of the place
That you trust
This city has you by the heart

Lève les yeux,
On est tous amis ici,
On veut tous voir les étoiles

Aim high
Brush the rust off
Take a leap
And build a staircase
To the sky
You can do it
If you work with the wind
Cut the cord, refuse to die
You can do it
You can do it
You can do it
You just gotta aim high

Like this
Like that
Like for like
For a change
Find that change in the streets
That you love
This city sings inside your blood

Nous brillons tous ici,
Nous voulons lever
Les yeux et voir nos amis

Aim high
Brush the rust off
Take a leap
And build a staircase
To the sky
You can do it
If you work with the wind
Cut the cord, refuse to die
You can do it
You can do it
You can do it
You just gotta aim high

What doesn’t bend breaks
What doesn’t bend breaks
What doesn’t bend breaks
What doesn’t bend breaks
We’re all gears in the same machine
Just trying to figure out what it all means
If we just sit here eating cake
We’ll never see the path that the boomerang takes

Aim high
Brush the rust off
Take a leap
And build a staircase
To the sky
You can do it
If you work with the wind
Cut the cord, refuse to die
You can do it
You can do it
You can do it
You just gotta aim high
Brush the rust off
Take a leap
And build a staircase
To the sky
You can do it
If you work with the wind
Cut the cord, refuse to die
You can do it
You can do it
You can do it
You just gotta aim high
Devil’s got me Lindt! Devil’s got me Lindt!
