American Idol

Post by fluffy »

I actually haven't watched this show before. I'm actually enjoying it.

I like the dorky people who can't sing worth a crap the most. Comedy gold!

(Yes I realize that if I were on the show I'd be in that category.)

i consider american idol (and a lot of reality TV for that matter) akin to a train wreck: it's awful, horrible, brain-numbing, lowest-common-denominator entertainment...

... but ... you ... can't ... stop ... watching ...

it's weird, there's just something voyeuristically engaging about it.

they have a French version (of course), and what's interesting is how they take the british model (since simon started the whole thing in th UK) and tweak it, mosly when the judges complain openly about the rules. the whole "competition" part seems to be much less important, especially as the show goes along. last season, the last few weeks were actually just pop-song spectacles, but i have to admit that most of the contestants did really well.

i will watch American Idol from start to finish. i find it extremely entertaining, and when those kids actually pull a good performance from themselves, it's like sun on a spring day after it's been raining all winter.

the best ever was "i'm with busey," even though that was a fake reality show...at least i think it was fake. either way, it was hilarious. the relationship between gary and adam was perfect comedy.

I wrote and recorded this for "Spinal Tap," but wound up not submitting it... mp3 file is a little big for those on dialup (5.5 mb), sorry...

Spinal Tap

Relevant, although it references last years contestants...

did you just wake up from a coma? the most permeated show in the recent history of TV and you've never seen it?

of course simon is the best part and he knows it. smug prick.

No, this is the first time it's been on that I've had

1) a TV
2) broadcast reception of Fox

In grad school I had 1 but not 2, and in New York I probably had 2 but I didn't know it for lack of 1.

I am an American Idol virgin, and frankly, I think that's one cherry that can remain unpopped.

i don't think i could handle it from start to finish, but i definitely agree with you: a good song is really nice, the well-deserved reward for hard work and dedication.

(that and i secretly envy them, performing in front of millions of people...)

I do actually have pretty strong opinions about this whole talent show business, but I am trying not to bait people at the moment ...

Thanks for thinking of me :)

ok, i'm rooting for the hippy-santa-cruz-looking kid with the ponytail. he's got absolutely no moves and i haven't heard him sing yet. but he's got cajones to get up there.

but if he busts out a spin doctors song, he loses me.

AI season 6

Post by Edge of LA »

Was Ann Coulter just here????

Anyway, since I got my 16 year old cat back from the ex, I've been sitting at home more watching the boob tube to keep her company, and have been watching American Idol Season 6. The boys are week... the black and half-black girls and the one white rocker chick are great.

So it's down to Blake and Jordin? A few weeks ago I'd have been sure it was going to be Blake and Melinda but I guess if the rumors are true Idol is fixed anyway and they probably really wanted it to be Jordin since she has more 'pop diva' appeal in the looks department (even though god DAMN she's a shitty vocalist, especially compared to Melinda).

Oh well, all three of the top three are going to do just fine now.

Melinda just got kinda blah kinda quickly. I mean, yeah, Melinda has an amaaaazing voice, but she has very little personality other than nicey nice. I want Blake to win, he actually has a personality.
