Think along for a second:
You're kinda famous, in certain internetty circles anyway. You enjoy making music. You enjoy and appreciate Song Fight! and want to contribute to it when you have the time and inspiration. You know you have a large fanbase, many of whom will flock to SF as soon as you mention your latest contribution to it and vote for you without listening to any others.
What do you do?
Probably exactly what MCF did, on the front page of his website.
PS: A good way to deemphasize voting is to not worry about friend flooding. We all know when a "winner" isn't a winner, so who cares.

Should anyone have the impression that
A) crossovers happen constantly or
B) MC Frontalot only enters highly publicized fights...
...it should be noted that MC Frontalot did not enter the first Achewood-themed songfight, and in the three YEARS since that fight he has entered at least three songfights as himself and a couple more as other band names.

From a stand point of a guy that learned the hard way of what the term friend flooding means, and how upsetting it is to this group for an individual to friend flood. I think Frontalot is very diplomatic in his promotion of SF on his site. I'd like to do the same as Frontalot on my site to get more of a variety of listener here. Our member base is from 16 to 60, or there about, and have very different tastes in music. I really like SF and I'd like to help bring attention to some of the styles here. I've been truly loving the great musical creations here since I've joined.
As far as MC Frontalot's entry for D&C? I don't care for rap much, but let's face it, it's original, it's well recorded/engineered, Brad's music is tight, and it has bunches and bunches of words that rhyme.

He sort of did, via MYCC. Which lost severely to MC Hawking, who not only friendflooded but also hotlinked the mp3 from his site. A lot of class, that one.jb wrote:...it should be noted that MC Frontalot did not enter the first Achewood-themed songfight
Front did show up on the review thread and gave his props to Hawking for being nerdcore before nerdcore was invented.

I have currently hotlinked our entry on our site, but only because I can't remember my damned songhole password so I can post another copy...fluffy wrote:He sort of did, via MYCC. Sorry, JB, will fix as soon as I can. Not like anyone goes to http://www.mightyoctothorpe.com anyway...

if everyone else knows, who the hell was it?Sven wrote:I know who the real winner of that fight was, and I think everyone else does too,
i just skimmed through all those songs -- most of them don't even sound familiar to me (i.e. weren't all that memorable apparently!) but i can't even remember who i voted for. (something tells me it might have been smoking grapefruits?) and the old messageboard is no longer accessible.. so i can't read what i might have said, or what the general consensus was at the time. and my memory isn't like it used to be...

Well I didn't know Front a lot was semi-famous and had a lot of rabid fans until I read this thread. I jumped over my genre bias and voted for his song this week because I thought it was the best. I enjoyed it the most.
I don't mind going up against pros, I'll take Melvin over that last Weezer album, I'll take Jordan Seavers over Grandaddy, I'll take Carpeturn over that "Two More Years" song by Bloc Party (but I still hold Silent Alarm in the highest regard), I'll take Paco Del Stinko over the last few Mike Patton projects, etc.....

Phillipso, Older Brothers, Semolina Pilchards, Zipline , Thank Glennny for the Frisbee, The Odoriferous Valley, The Worldly Self Assurance, Berkeley Social Scene, Very Gentle Knives, Daddy Bop Swing Set, GUNS, The Kraken Lives, Cavedwellers

Oh, that reminds me, one of my local cd stores had a copy of a cd of his in the used bin once. I picked it up, said "huh, that's the guy that friendflooded songfight and won with that song I hated" and put it back.fluffy wrote:Which lost severely to MC Hawking, who not only friendflooded but also hotlinked the mp3 from his site. JBB's song was a million times better than that.

For what it's worth, I've always really liked Frontalot's songs, but have always been really bothered by what I perceived to be friend-flooding. I don't think Fresh Dog was the best song in that fight, by far.
However, I recently checked out his site again, and watched a documentary clip about nerdcore. I got a much better impression of Front as a person. I was also impressed by his disclaimer on his site, urging people to vote fairly. Really, what else can he do?
Cheers.

Wow. I posted that, then saw the "glutton" results. I guess I can understand why some people would be irked by that (I really thought Glenn Case should've taken it, myself) so I retroactively redact my flippancy in the previous post.
Instead, I offer this gem: have one week where everyone entering does their best MC Frontalot impression (Front hisself may or may not enter) and see who gets da votes. Heh.
