So that was part of the legal settlement, Niv gets to be Simon Cowell? Coolness!

When are the first songs up to hear?

I must say that Spin was nice to drop me an e-mail before starting SpinTunes to make sure it was cool with me, seeing that his competition was derived from the Nur Ein concept. I told him I was okay with it. He offered me a judge position. I took it and yes, I will be Cowell.

Haha, well Niveous wouldn't get much if he sued me. I owe money...I don't have it. :p

The round 1 songs are due June 23rd 11:59PM (W), and they will probably get uploaded right after the listening party which is 8PM on the 24th. The official upload day is the 25th, but they will probably go live very late on the 24th.

I think it'd be cool to have like have a multi-level contest survivor songfight thing where you do a song every few days for the different names, and whoever gets the least votes gets eliminated ... I wouldn't know how to run it, but if someone likes this idea and wants to carry the torch and start one up that'd be cool ... as for this thread, what kind of sidefight would you like to see in the near future?

Yes. Young Mr. Reist bore the idea. I modified it until it became Nur Ein. Who created it? Nature vs. Nurture. Let's say we both did.

So far I've got 2 shadow songs turned in. I sort of expected 1 of the guys to submit something, but the other guy I've never even heard of. I guess he just stumbled onto the blog.

Anyways, that means there will be 33 new songs (instead of 31) to listen to when the regular entries get turned in. Things are looking good so far.

Now if only I could get that "Howard The Duck" song out of my freakin' head.

So without the deadline past, should we be posting lyrics? Hyping our track? Etc... Or just hanging out till further notice?

It would be cool if you waited until after the listening party, but you can share your song whenever & however you like. The listening party is tonight @8PM EST. Details are on blog. EVERYONE here is welcome to drop into the LP. All the songs (22) will be played, and then afterwards the Bandcamp album will be posted for everyone. The songs are all free of course. It was a fun round to listen to, I think people will like it.

http://spintunes.blogspot.com/2010/06/l ... ement.html

After the LP EVERYONE will be pimping their songs....including me. I have 2 YouTube interviews to do this week, but I'm going to try to get a promo video up in the next 48 hours.

*does some quick math*

If there's only 22 songs, then that means there are about as many dropouts as there were planned eliminations this round. How will that affect the elimination schedule?

Ross asked the same question in the comments section of my blog. I just finished updating the blog to include the answer. So click on the link in my previous comment above, and then scroll down till you see "Eliminations" in bold.

Some other questions/issues were addressed in the comments section.

Well the listening party was a disaster. First it was choppy from lag, then static & then even the final attempt wasn't very good. But the songs were great, so I guess it doesn't matter much about the broadcast. You can download the songs for free here:

http://spintown.bandcamp.com/album/spintunes-1-round-1

Hopefully the future listening parties go better, but it was good to see 20+ people there. Eventually I'll be hosting them, but for the rest of SpinTunes #1 it'll be Jules.

The technical problems were unfortunate.

It would have been nice if someone had tried it out beforehand to make sure it worked.

It seems like a real good group of songs.

For the record we did test the software and everything 2 days before. Since I'll be doing them in the future I had Jules help me download some new software & explain how some of the U-Stream software works. By the time I was done I was broadcasting audio & video with no lag or problems. She was using the same software she tested with me. I have no idea what the difference between the 2 nights were, but the lag was just awful. She probably should have got on U-Stream an hour or so before the prodcast to make sure everything was still good, but there was definately a test.

Steve I don't know if you saw my comment to your question on the blog, but the scoring & elimination stuff can be found here:
http://spintunes.blogspot.com/2010/06/s ... rules.html
Ties are settled by a popular vote in the form of a poll I'll start for each round. If somehow that is a tie as well, the point totals from the previous round will decide the winner. The final deciding factor is me if by some miracle everything is tied.
The main thing is the judges scores. None of that stuff above even matters unless there's a tie. If there's no tie, it's pretty much just like Nur Ein.

Jules managed to confuse the heck out of a lot of people, so you weren't alone. The poll for the popular vote is in the right sidebar of the blog now. It'll stay up until I post the judges reviews & their rankings.

Yeah, I was shocked by some of the picks 2 of the judges made, and how highly ranked a couple songs were. Not so much by their 'tastes', but by how much (or little) importance they gave actually meeting the challenge.

17 of 20 people turned in a song by the round 2 deadline. Also got 1 shadow for round 2, and someone just turned in a late shadow for round 1. I expect another shadow or 2 still, but it was a good turn out. Nice work.

Oh, fudge. My song is only about half-done, and I completely forgot about it last night.

Guess I'm out. Sorry, Spin.
