I finished a mix of mine last night. I should have it posted this evening. I'm semi-satisfied with it, although the mix could be better. There's also some mistakes in the playing that I didn't have time to fix and couldn't be rectified by mixing. All in all not a bad effort, meaning it's not a total piece of garbage. At least it fits the rules. It's 8.5 minutes long, has four seperate guitar parts, and it's an instrumental (no lyrics). I can't wait to hear the other pieces.

Here's mine, all 8:45 of it. Grab some popcorn, smoke a fatty, and enjoy. This song is best listened to on speakers if possible, and turned way, way up. SWEET SHEETS by Eddiebangs

Ok, here it is, as promised.
Heuristics Inc. - "down the dark road"
Total time: 8:34.

ok, here is the caveat. i don't technically have 4 guitars. rather, i have an acoustic guitar, and an electric one. the electric is going through a long echo effect - courtesy of my jamman - such that there are 5 or so different echoes of the recent guitar bits playing at any one time. like i said, if that's not sufficient for "4 guitars" i understand, but take a listen to it anyway, please :)

I left my friends house a couple hours ago. He had my song converted to MP3 and was supposed to be uploading it to the host site and then would send me the link. I'm still waiting on that, praying hard the size of the file isn't an issue. As soon as I have a link I will post it. I'm going to start listening to what's been posted so far while I wait.

Good job, Glenn! I wish I had had time to actually make mine a composition, instead of just a series of guitar solos... Something about this reminded me a lot of the Minibosses. This would be awesome theme music for an 8-bit Nintendo game, and I mean that as a compliment.

More impressions to follow...

I will take that as a GIGANTIC compliment based on 2 facts.

1. I saw the minibosses live at PAX and they were jaw-droppingly awesome.

2. I had the "Let's make this sound like it belongs in a 8-bit Nintendo game" approach in mind for a couple of the sections of the composition! Seriously, I am not making that up! I especially adore the music in the first Metroid game.

So, yeah, thanks Lunkhead! I can't wait to hear everyone else's when I get home.

ROCK!

Good composition, Eddie! I was hoping to hear some more serious shredding, though, but you kept it all tasteful and melodic and stuff. ;) I really envy your real drums. This was a cool idea for a fight, yay! Let's do it again in a month.

Well I'm officially late, appropriately bummed and now feeling intimidated after listening to Glenn's composition. That is very cool Glenn, very cool indeed. I'll do "official" reviews later, but your song has set the tone for what should be an interesting premise. I agree with Lunk, we should do this again.

Dre: You are RAD for doing that, and I thank you!

I swear that I should get my own site, and I probably will someday soon. We shall see.

EDIT: Looks like songhole is back up! Maybe it's songhole 2.0 now?

I am busy 'finding' songs tonight for the gift of music challenge, but I am listening to and liking Lunkhead's entry at the moment.

I especially like when it breaks down at the 5 minute mark into prettysville. Good stuff in my opinion. I hear shades of John Frusciante, but could be wrong.

EDIT: Dang it, I need to sleep now, but Eddie's track wouldn't download for me this evening for some reason, it's telling me that the "The input media format is invalid."

ROCK!

Hi. I'm Dan's technical advisor. His file is sorta out there at

http://www.loco-mojo.com/dano_messoguitars.mp3

I uploaded the file via my dial-up connection last night and didn't notice that the file took me over my storage limit. Consequently, Dan's song cuts out at 6:53. I've deleted some other large files and will re-upload tonight.

He's not really my technical advisor, but he plays one on the Internet. Seriously, I appreciate his assistance with this aspect of the project. Like Glenn, I don't have my own site for hosting purposes either. Maybe someday.

OK, I am going to post a link to my song here tomorrow (well middle of the night for you yanks)

It's not really for consideration in the 'fight. It has words. Lots of them. And it's 6.27, not over 8, but the backing track is as far as I got with this 'fight. So I thought people might like to hear it.

Everything (apart from words and drums) is guitar through various effects pedals. It's very No-Wave. I love it, you'll be left cold. It takes the first two minutes to get going, builds nicely, and the last minute is killer, IMO.

Oh and it's very unpleasant, sonically and lyrically. Parental advisory and all that.

I downloaded it last night with no issues. I'm listening to it right now. F'ing awesome! I have a feeling I'm finishing dead last in this competition. Whoa! except for that abrupt end at 8:10. Is that on purpose Eddie?
