Circle of Titles VII
Hi there!
It's me, Nick Soma, not Jon Eric, as you can see. Yet Nur Ein is coming to a close once again, and I don't know about Jon, but anyway someone's got to do the CoT thing, 'cause that's SF tradition as of now, right? So here's a thread for a start. I have no experience hosting a Circle of Titles or anything like that - I think Mike Lamb helped out one year though - but I am glad to help out wherever I can.
First of all: do you want to do this? The Circle is only fun when there's a certain number of participants, so first of all let's see if anyone still wants to do it.
For all of you who have no idea what Circle of Titles is, here's a short introduction.
The Circle of Titles is an annual sidefight started by SF and Ein participant Jon Eric, who also hosted the 10th Nur Ein in 2015. The idea is the following: everyone sends in a title. Titles are then randomly assigned to participants, who then have two weeks to complete a song with the title they received.
If you like that idea, then cool! You can post here and I'll list the participants, as Jon did. No idea about hosting, but we'll see to that.
P.S. Over the years, there have been experiments with multiple titles and the like. For this year's CoT, I say, you can choose one out of three options! Woo!
1: You may submit two titles, from which the recipient has to choose one.
2: You may submit a title and one or two optional challenges, from which the recipient can choose either one (or none, but then they're lame.)
3: You may submit just one title and nothing else. You might prefer this option if you either can only think of one title, or if you REALLY want to hear a song for that one title.
As usual, after the songs are up, titles are up for grabs and everyone gets the opportunity to record songs for the "stiffees". Usually there are many of those. I have been guilty of never sending in a song myself (last year), so I am not going to throw the first stone.
I think my title was "Strange Promise". Strange how I promised to send in a song and then never did.
--------------------------------
UPDATE: This year's Circle of Titles will be co-hosted by jast and me. I am doing the administrative part, that is, you send your title suggestions to me, I'll jumble them up and send them back to you, and once your song is finished, you'll send it to jast via PM or email and he is going to do the hosting.
Quoting from Jon Eric's rules of last year, with slight adaptations.
Here are the rules, for anyone who's never done this before:
1.) Everyone who wants in announces their intention to participate. (Or not; if you want to surprise us, that's cool with me)
2.) Now here comes a novelty thing I would like to try this year. You decide for yourself which option you choose:
A: The classic one. One single title. You leave your recipient no choice, so you are in total control. Feels good, mwahahaha!
B: The dual title version. You think up two titles, and your recipient has to pick one.
C: Challenge time! Think up one title and two optional challenges. Your recipient may pick one, or both, of the challenges. Or not, if they're lame.
2a.) Please do not make your titles purposefully nonsensical or difficult for the recipient.
2b.) Same applies for challenges.
3.) Either way, you send your title(s) or challenges to me via PM, then I randomize stuff up so that each person gets someone else's titles, and send those back.
4.) Each person records a song for one of the titles they get.
5.) At the end, the songs will be posted, along with the revelation of who submitted what title.
6.) Titles are then up for grabs for whoever wants extra credit. Also, there will be an opportunity to for others to step up and record songs for the "stiffees."
7.) For the record, I'll be participating, too. Yes, that's a little unfair. Get over it.
As for the schedule - get the titles to me by Friday, June 23rd, one minute prior to midnight, Central European Time (corresponding to a minute before 3 PM in Pacific Time, if I'm correct). I'll randomize the songs over the weekend (planning to have them assigned by Monday), and they'll be due on Monday, July 17th, again one minute prior to midnight. unless something goes wrong again
Note that although I will assign the titles, I am not hosting these songs. So when you are finished, send your submissions to jast via PM or via email to jast@srcd.de.

Re: Circle of Titles VII
Updated thread, including a time schedule.
I'll post this here, too:
Get the titles to me within the next two weeks. Deadline is Friday, June 23rd, one minute prior to midnight. I'll randomize the songs over the weekend (planning to have them assigned by Monday), and they'll be due on Monday, July 17th, one minute prior to midnight.
Note that although I will assign the titles, I am not hosting these songs. So when you are finished, send your submissions to jast via PM or via email to jast@srcd.de.
Also note that "midnight" means Central European Time
As this year's CoT is hosted by a German and an Austrian, you better BEHAVE! ... Nah, just kidding. We'll be nice, I promise. Though I must admit it is indeed kind of bizarre to live in a world where Germans are the good guys and Americans the bad ones

Re: Circle of Titles VII
OK, another update. I was unaware of the news considering Merisan and the Ein final when I proposed the schedule for CoT VII. Changed the above dates accordingly.

By the way - anyone here who knows about Jon Eric? Last time he was logged in was September 10th, 2016. I sent him a PM.

Yep, just checked his Facebook feed. He's livin' the family life now. RIP, Jon's music-making time.noma wrote:By the way - anyone here who knows about Jon Eric? Last time he was logged in was September 10th, 2016. I sent him a PM.
Re: Circle of Titles VII
I won't commit to CoT this year, but may be able to kick out an orphan title. If they get posted.

Re: Circle of Titles VII
I feel bad signing up for this as I stiffed in the last one of these I entered (I will finish that one, someday, I swear, for reals, really, truly, no joke), but the kids have expressed some interest in music making and have stated their desire to participate. We are in.

I had fun both times. June 26 gives me enough time, I think. Count me in. Sending titles to Nick now.

Hey Nick, it might be helpful if you added the time zone to the first post, right now it's a little buried in the thread.
PS. Micah Sommersmith is not in the list yet but some of the folks who posted later are...
