Looks like I probably typo'd "tomdg" here as "tomdb" oops! http://sfjukebox.org/artists/tomdb%20and%20wub Will fix eventually.

Can you change the artist name "?" to "ö" in the archive? That would be the "?" who submitted "Rhymes with Lucia" and "Terror in Tiny Town". Both the file names were changed to "questionmark" for the artist name too, IIRC something about the server back then couldn't handle the non-standard characters. For what it's worth, on windows that's alt-0246.

Wöw! I never use the Numberpad which is apparently the only way the Alt+# works.

Edit: ùúûüjn approves of this message...

Yeah, I've got that on my TODO list, but, good to have a post here to keep track of it too.

I went ahead and took care of that. Here you go

Oh, thanks fluffy!

I was going to do that and at the same time make changes in the Jukebox database. I don't think its synching mechanism will handle this well. I'm guessing it'll wind up with both artists and duplicate songs, or, maybe it will just completely break, haha. I'll probably have a bunch more cleanup in the Jukebox db now. Oh well!

Oh, sorry about that. I figured you were just like importing the generated fights.json or whatever.

I am remembering now that it won't break things because the importing is super lazy. It polls the text data and reads until it sees a fight it already knows about and then doesn't read anymore. I never wrote any kind of "read the whole data set, perform a diff, update/insert/delete to synch up". So in this case I think changing this old data in the archive will have no effect and it won't be any more or less work for me to update things in the Jukebox to match even if I do it a while from now.

Sitting in the Life Boat displays the wrong end date as listed in the archive as well as on its song page. Unless that fight really was five weeks long.

Eagle eyed catch there, thanks. Fixed in the official archive now. Will fix in the Jukebox later.

Question about the fight "It's Charging" listing the dates 03/05/87 - 03/12/87 in the music archive: What the fuck?

this is like

a thing that's been brought up a few times

short version: "it's charging" was a fun thing at the time

anyway it wasn't a real fight, it was a one-off fun thing that drew did

When?

Also, forgive me (or don't) for asking again in a few years when I forget that I've already asked (a couple of times, I'm sure.)

I probably brought it and the other oddities up, several times, when I was building the Jukebox.

Here's another fun one:

https://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?key=jbturns40

Did that fight really start in 08/21/72?!?!? No. So, the takeaway here is, those dates can be whatever, they are not bound to the actual start/end dates of the fights. And in the Song Fight data there is nowhere where the actual start/end dates get stored. So if/when we get fun with the dates, the real dates don't get recorded anywhere.

When?
The actual "fight" got posted between the two fights that surrounded it.

The question has popped up a few times over the years. I don't have encyclopedic memory of that and it's hard to search on.

Yeah, I should have asked why those particular dates were used but then I stopped caring when it was obvious that you thought I was just being an asshole.

@lunkhead, after I posted earlier I did a search and saw the jukebox thread which really was interesting to read but... yeah.

I have a spreadsheet with all the fights and some information on artwork I've submitted etc., It just sucks to sort it out and have that fight stand out like a sore thumb but honestly, at this point, it doesn't matter. I probably should just delete it.

I kept making assumptions about the data only to discover exception after exception after exception. It was a fun discovery process.

I think you used the wrong "F" word in that sentence.
