Circle of Titles - The Return
Hi everyone! I used to run a side fight each year near the end of Nur Ein called Circle of Titles. Looks like it lost a lot of steam when I took some time off, but I'd love to bring it back if people are interested. The idea is that everyone gets to make up a title and then everyone records a song for the title that someone else submitted.
Here are the rules, for anyone who's never done this before:
1.) Everyone who wants in announces their intention to participate. (Or not; if you want to surprise us, that's cool with me)
2.) Each participant thinks up a title and submits it to me.
2a.) Please do not make your title purposefully nonsensical or difficult for the recipient.
2b.) If two or more people send me the same title, for the sake of variety and fairness, I will politely ask them each to pick a different one.
3.) I randomize stuff up so that each person gets someone else's title, and send those back.
4.) Each person records a song for the title they get.
5.) At the end, the songs will be posted, along with the revelation of who submitted what title.
6.) Titles are then up for grabs for whoever wants extra credit. Also, there will be an opportunity to for others to step up and record songs for the "stiffees."
7.) For the record, I'll be participating, too. Yes, that's a little unfair, but I'm doing it anyway.
Here's my thinking for this year's schedule: Get the titles to me by, let's say July 9th. I'll randomize the titles and assign them on the 9th and 10th, and you guys will have the next two weekends to work on the songs, so they'll be due one minute before midnight on Sunday, July 26th.

We submit one title each or two titles from which our victim... erm chosen songster chooses from? (Or am I imagining that's the way we did it last time around?)

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return
I would participate!
I like what we've done recently which is to come up with two titles and let the other participant pick which one to use - and then unused titles are up for grabs after. But I'll participate regardless!

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return
I piloted the idea of two titles per participant last time I ran it. I personally preferred the simplicity of just one title, but I'm as susceptible to mob rule as the next Internet message board user. Jast ran it once or twice I think. Was two titles the rule when he did it?MicahSommer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 10:32 amI would participate!

Where does the crowd lean? One title or two?

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return
I definitely prefer two. I recall a couple of times when the one single title was just... really not great at all, because the title itself was problematic. Two titles at least reduces that risk.

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return
Well, that sounds like enough of a consensus for me. Everyone, if you wish to participate, PM me two different titles.

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return
Bump/reminder. I'd like to receive all titles by the end of the day tomorrow, so I can get assignments to people before the weekend begins. The following people/bands have expressed possible interest, but not yet sent me titles:
Reve and Ujn
Gizo
Sleepysilverdoor
Owl
Pigfarmer Jr.
Irwin
Mike Lamb
Johnny Cashpoint
At some point Friday, I'm going to proceed with doling out the assignments, so don't miss your chance!
