Best Albums of 2020 - a fun game!

Hi All,
I'm curious what your favorite albums of 2020 are, but instead of just listing them, I had the idea for a game, and here is how you play:

1. Pick a Best Albums of 2020 list somewhere on the internet and post it here. (For example, here's one from Amoeba Records)
2. Give yourself a point for every album on that list you listened to in 2020.
3. Give yourself a bonus point for any album on the list you purchased.
4. Post your score (for me, that was 2/50, at least from what I can remember of 2020).
5. Make a suggestion of which album on the list you would recommend to others to check out.
6. ???
7. Profit!

Now it's your turn!

Ken

Haha, I'll play with a different list in a bit but for your list, I scored two points, but I had their #1 (Gathering Swans by Choir Boy) in heavy rotation for awhile because it's seriously great. The other one on there was Riki. Dais Records is just a good label.

Your list. 0 points. But at least now I have an album or two I want to check out.

I've got a little variation for you to try. Billboard this week put out their Top 100 songs of 2020. How many of them have you actually heard?

This list is kinda insane even for a dedicated chart watcher like myself. 2020 was weird and this list is weird.

I'll go with the top 100 on rateyourmusic. https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/2020/

Listened: 10/100
Bought: 4/100

Billboard top 100 list:

Pop smoke, Halsey, Mariah Carey (lol?), Billie Eilish x2, Cardi B, DaBaby, Roddy Rich, Future.

This is pretty much just Hot 107.9 in Atlanta which I listen to commuting sometime. The only album I actually own is Billie Eilish.

From Ken's list I think I've heard 10, but only bought one (Ratboys) for a score of 11.

From RateYourMusic I've heard 7, bought 2.

From Niveous' Billboard list I can only say for sure that I've heard four - Mariah, Lizzo, Lizzo, Billie Eilish.

Here's the Quietus list.

From this one:
Listened: 20
Bought: 2, planning to get another one today now that it's Bandcamp Friday

Recommended: Hen Ogledd for oddball pop, Richard Skelton for apocalyptic drones.

4 for me off of that one, but about to be 5 because I didn't know Horse Lords had an album out this year.

Alternate game: make your own top 10 list and see how many of the albums AREN'T on any of the lists posted here.

This is fun. I just don't have any good answers. This has not been a great year for me when it comes to listening to full albums. I have been very single oriented (says the person who dropped a solo album and an album with my band this year).

I think I only made it to 5 on the Amoeba list, but some of those were on my "I should listen to this" list (or my "I didn't know that artist put out a new album!" list) so I'm going to work through that soon. I'm listening to Yumi Zouma right now, which I hadn't heard of but sounded up my alley, enjoying it. Is there a text version of the Billboard list somewhere? I don't want to watch a 17-minute video to figure out if I've heard any of the songs...

I haven't seen either of my two favourite albums of the year on any lists yet. But I'd like to, because that would be a sign I should investigate more from that particular list! Which doesn't exist! Or does it?

Joey Pecoraro - Sea Monster
Bad Moves - Untenable

If anyone finds a list with either of those two on it, let me know! Also (obviously) I very much recommend both. Joey Pecoraro is chilled out electro-pop with hip-hop influences, Bad Moves are punk / power-pop.

That Bad Moves album is pretty good.

I've not either, but I'm never surprised by that. If anyone can find a list containing

Ocean Grove - Flip Phone Fantasy [alt-rock/nu-metal/power pop/essentially 94-03 distilled into one album]
Poppy - I Disagree [industrial metal/bubblegum pop/glitch/whatever]

Then I really need to check out everything else on that list.

I also scored 0 on the Amoeba list, and have only heard of like three of those artists. Am I out of touch? No, it is the children who are wrong.

Or maybe I'm using golf scoring. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I did buy a bunch of Trevor Childers albums on Sober's recommendation, but other than that most of the music I got was from random bands on Bandcamp.
