Nur Ein XVI - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
Budget Bears
Waiting for the sun to fall
to fill the sky and make us blind
a fitting end for all mankind
the flames descend and take us all
Some chose to flee the fireball
But we, the faithful, stayed behind
Waiting for the sun to fall
to fill the sky and make us blind
And so we meet at the town hall
alert, and blessed with peace of mind
singing as the stars align
breathing fire, as we stand tall
Waiting for the sun to fall
(to fill the sky and make us blind)
Waiting for the sun to fall
to fill the sky and make us blind
a fitting end for all mankind
the flames descend and take us all
Some chose to flee the fireball
But we, the faithful, stayed behind
Waiting for the sun to fall
to fill the sky and make us blind
And so we meet at the town hall
alert, and blessed with peace of mind
singing as the stars align
breathing fire, as we stand tall
Waiting for the sun to fall
(to fill the sky and make us blind)

See-Man-Ski
you kicked me to the curb
now I'm waiting for the sun to fall
you haven't said a word
nothing at all
the lies I told where so absurd
yeah you made the right judgement call
you kicked me to the curb
now I'm waiting for the sun fall
you hung the sign, do not disturb
and pushed me back onto the wall
I know this time it was my own downfall
you kicked me to the curb
now I'm waiting for the sun to fall
you kicked me to the curb
now I'm waiting for the sun to fall
you haven't said a word
nothing at all

We’re waiting for the sun to fall
Slap some Band-Aids on his bruises
Lunatics and clumsy losers
Drunkards in a dirty dance hall
Faded posters taped to drywall
Cutting words from last year’s muses
Slap some Band-Aids on his bruises
We’re waiting for the sun to fall
Fourteen months of masks and Lysol
Extroverts became recluses
Banned from all our band abuses
Solitary Zooming oddballs
We’re waiting for the sun to fall
We’re waiting for the sun to fall

Balance Lost
I'm just looking for today's news
I'm not looking for a tabloid
I try not to get so annoyed
Every day I see right wing views
Do we actually get to choose
Politics is being destroyed
I'm just looking for today's news
I'm not looking for a tabloid
Have our opinions become skewed?
Is there any way to avoid
Journalists who have been deployed?
I'm not looking for an excuse
I'm just looking for today's news
Liner notes
The Sun in my song refers to the most popular newspaper in the UK. It is a shitheap rag with boobs. The song is about hoping for the decline of this paper and the media empire of it's billionaire owner, Rupert Murdoch, and his malign influence on both British and American society.

Re: Nur Ein XVI - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
Liner Notes:
I had no idea what a rondel was, once I looked it up and saw it was some medieval-ass bullshit I downloaded a mandolin vst and some choir patches hoping to really lean into the genre with some gregorian greensleeves crap. That didn't really happen - I ended up using the mandolin and choir but somehow tried to turn it into an alt-RNB sex jam.
There are seemingly countless (and occasionally contradictory) rules for a rondel, for the avoidance of doubt here's how I have interpreted it - my rhyme scheme is ABba abAB abbaAB, as I have chosen to end the last verse on a sestet instead of a quintet. Wikipedia says this is fine so if any judges try get me for this I will lose my shit, you have been warned. I have also noted that "The meter is open, but typically has eight syllables," and decided that since the judges themselves gave us a title with SEVEN SYLLABLES I would not be adhering strictly to eight syllables - although about half of the lines are eight syllables regardless. Long story short, if any judge tries to come at me for breaking one of the nebulous "rules" of a rondel I will throw a massive tantrum.
Anyway, challenge nitpicking aside I really like this song, but I understand it's a bit odd and quite understated - I tried to avoid my usual big build of instruments and it's really just mandolin, pad and a bassline. Can definitely see this getting kicked out for being too simple but I'm happy with it. I am also immensely proud of the ridiculous line "fucking in the crepuscule", which a google search tells me has never been written on the internet before.

I'll be at your beck and call
I wanna get it on with you
I think of all the things we can do
and boy I wanna do them all
oh kiss me up against the wall
you show me that you want me too
I'll be at your beck and call
I wanna get it on with you
waiting for the sun to fall
and then we can turn the black sky blue
every night we'll bind our bodies anew
fucking in the crepuscule
I'll be at your beck and call
I wanna get it on with you

Re: Nur Ein XVI - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
Liner notes:
I did my lyrics in a rondel variant, based off Chaucer's "Rondel of Merciless Beauty". Hopefully that isn't going to ding me as I felt that structuring the last quintet this way (as ol' Geoffrey himself did) allowed me to revisit the "waiting for the sun to fall" line and bolster the concept of the song to greater effect. It does have 13 lines. Also, I took advantage of the open meter allowance on this in order to best accommodate the title rhythmically.
The concept should be fairly clear, someone has done something untoward, we get the idea that they are about to be exposed, and they are reaping their prize which is perhaps anticipation itself, or is at the least tainted with the anticipation that their actions are bringing a catastrophic turn of events.

I tempted fate, now I take my prize
Lay here waiting for the sun to fall
For certain doom to pay its call
For rusted blade to cut my ties
Your words rang hard and sharp as knives
Line went dead but you'll spill all
I tempted fate, now I take my prize
Lay here waiting for the sun to fall
Too bold a move now slowed time’s crawl
Each terrible moment with fear allies
I temped fate, now I take my prize
Lay here waiting for the sun to fall
For certain doom to pay its call

Waiting For The Sun To Fall
by Max Bombast
They're waiting for the sun to fall
When shadows stretch across the land
When darkness grips the hearts of man
They'll descend and consume us all
It's our fate as the world revolves
Make no mistake it always was the plan
They're waiting for the sun to fall
When shadows stretch across the land
This is a problem we can solve
So find a light or grab a lamp
And point it out into the black
Let's force these monsters to evolve
They're waiting for the sun to fall
When shadows stretch across the land

Waiting For The Sun To Fall, Hot Pink Halo
***
This morning I watched the sky burn
A hole in the night between each star
I was waiting waiting hoping and
Waiting for the sun to fall
Waiting waiting wanting and waiting
Captured and crushed by its call
This morning I watched the sky burn
A hole in the night between each star
Waiting waiting anticipating
Hypnotised mesmerised under its thrall
This morning I watched the sky burn
A hole in the night between each star
Waiting for the sun to fall

Nick Soma - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
(Rondel)
And even if the sun was falling,
So be it then, I won't be scared.
For anything I'll be prepared,
Raging wars, diseases sprawling.
You have answered to my calling,
The only one who ever cared.
And even if the sun was falling,
So be it then, I won't be scared.
Snake of death quietly crawling,
Even if in your face I stared,
Eyes glowing red and nostrils flared,
I wouldn't be on my knees bawling,
And even if the sun was falling.
(Coda)
I'm waiting for the sun to rise
Waiting for the sun to set
Waiting for the sun to fall
Down on my head
Down on my head
(And even if the sun is falling...
So be it then, I won't be scared...
Mmmmhhh....)
Spoiler
CODA?! What coda? Disqualified!
OK... so, let me explain. Because that coda was a little like a curse for me. When I saw the title, I started strumming my guitar, trying to find something that sounds good - which usually yields a riff or chord sequence ar best, but this time, it was a chorus with lyrics. I immediately realized I couldn't possibly fit my chorus into a rondel, so I started writing a rondel without that part. But I kept humming it, it sounded really good to me and it sounded like it belonged there. If I had used it as a chorus between the rondel verses, it would have broken up the flow, unrondeled the rondel, or whatever, so I made it a coda. Until the very last day I wasn't quite sure whether I should use it and risk elimination. This uncertainty shows in the arrangement, I think it sounds unfinished, like something is missing but I'm not sure what. I tried adding drums but it totally destroyed the atmosphere. Also got a little carried away with the woodwinds (clarinet and tin whistle) - hope you like them.
I see this song as structurally similar to "Hey Jude" or something like that, with a repetitive coda that is also the climax, or even chorus if you will. Hey Jude without that coda would be nothing, and this song... well, we'll see. I'd rather be eliminated than erase this coda from the song - "so be it then, I won't be scared."

A| I’m waiting for the sun to fall
B| And missing you another day
b| Thinking of the words you’d say
a| And wishing I could keep them all
a| Anticipating your next call
b| That’s never going to come my way
A| I’m waiting for the sun to fall
B| And missing you another day
a| Now we’re on two sides of a wall
b| But I can reach you if I pray
b| Said my goodbyes there as you lay
a| You’re standing now with ease and tall
A| I’m waiting for the sun to fall
B| And missing you another day

Guitar: Truth
Writing credits: Cybro, Truth, Estaphonia, Zidongster
With special guest Jon Porobil on electric guitars and drums!
I’ve sat here once before, I know,
Waiting for the sun to fall.
Its light a bright and ghastly pall,
Scorching all that lies below.
The landscape and the people sprawl
Having nowhere else to go;
I’ve sat here once before, I know,
Waiting for the sun to fall.
The plants have long since ceased to grow
We patiently remain, enthralled,
Hearing, watching, feeling all.
Ending feels so new, although
I’ve sat here once before, I know,
Waiting for the sun to fall.

Setting: a preapocalyptic dystopian hellscape. The narrator sits and watches as the red giant engulfs the earth…

Crown Shy
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light
Waiting for the seeping night
Waiting for the stars to come
Counting echoes in a gun
Channels blaring black and white
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light
Asking who I should become
Waxy fingers holding tight
Yearning for the birds in flight
Learning songs I've never sung
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light
Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall
Whispering names down empty halls
Desperate to change myself
Running out of tales to tell
Running out of friends to call
Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall
Questions raising angry welts
All at once, or not at all
Pasting posters on the walls
Of everything I've ever felt
Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light

Ever Kenievel - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
Make the morning coffee
Books on tape commute
Direct, decide and delegate in tasteful business suits
(A perfect crease)
Process every invoice
Meetings after noon
Employee of the month this month and for the last one, too
(A worker bee)
Five-fifteen she's drinking
Toasting to your health
Vodka shots for strangers and a couple for herself
(A little treat)
Sleeping pill for bedtime
Into her bloodstream
Can't have any nightmares if she's too knocked out to dream
she's gonna
run run run run run
til she drops
she's only
wait wait wait wait wait wait
she's gonna
go go go go go
til she stops
she's only waiting
waiting for the sun to fall
Television background
Music turned up high
Makes the neighbors angry but it helps the days go by
(No silence please)
Tinder dates aplenty
Doesn't matter who
Anyone who doesn't do the things he used to do
(Don't smile at me)
Tuesday is for painting
Thursday is the beach
When summertime is over she's not sure what that will be
(How long to grieve)
Saturday pilates
Sunday boxing ring
Don't think about him anymore don't think of anything
she's gonna
run run run run run
til she drops
she's only
wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
she's gonna
go go go go go
til she stops
she's only waiting
waiting for the sun to fall
but for a moment there she stopped
and all the grief came flooding back
then face to face with gruesome facts
her sturdy old defenses dropped
beside the shelves inside the shop
she heard that old familiar track
but for a moment there she stopped
and all the grief came flooding back
the wall came down, the bubble popped
she swallowed it, she fought it back
she didn't cry, she didn't act
when sorrow bubbled to the top
but for a moment there she stopped
It only took an instant
A sickness of the heart
It didn't take too long at all for death to do them part
One day she'll remember
His body giving way
It'll catch up with her sometime but today won't be the day
she's gonna
run run run run run
til she drops
she's only

I am definitely too square for how experimental this is, but I can imagine that if I was in the right state of mind, the section starting at 2:20 might transport me to another dimension - jeffhenderson

Waiting for the Sun to Fall (Shadow)
by Virgo Power
1 (A) everyone’s out to get me
2 (B) it should have come as no surprise
3 (B) last night you looked at me
4 (A) with such anger in your eyes
Chorus:
trying not to cry but I'm not sure why
is this just going to be our life now?
5 (A) who can be more beastly
6 (B) what then will be our prize
7 (A) it’s clear for all to see
8 (B-2) it should have come as no surprise
CHORUS
Bridge:
9 (A) I see we both agree
10 (B) your lies are your disguise
11 (B) my sighs are what you despise
12 (A-1) when everyone’s out to get me
13 (B-2) it should have come as no surprise
CHORUS
outro:
sometimes I feel like we’re all
just waiting for the sun to fall
last night you looked at me
with such anger in your eyes

Once again I'm waiting for the sun to fall
So we can meet in secret under lilac trees
I'll paint you once again tonight, my sweet Louise
A few more tender brushstrokes, yes, I think that's all
My mother paints my future days a wife encased in walls
For now, I paint them night by night, in moonlight on your cheeks
Once again I'm waiting for the sun to fall
So we can meet in secret under lilac trees
These days mundanely wane within these paisley papered halls
I long for ways our conversations sway like evening breeze
I long to taste your secrets as you whisper them to me
I've felt this tender longing since I could recall
Once again I'm waiting for the sun to fall
liner notes
the formal feel I got from this poem challenge inspired me to write a little story about a historical fiction girl in love with another historical fiction girl.

Re: Nur Ein XVI - Waiting for the Sun to Fall
you're too right - i've got no skin in this game
passing time, waiting for the sun to fall
thinner air making mad folk of us all
chemical burns branding us all the same
raging without staving off inside shame
everyone needs a way of standing tall
you're too right - i've got no skin in this game
passing time waiting for the sun to fall
telephones ringing sky painted in flame
up on the rooftop screening all my calls
once was a method, now more of a stall
making your goodbye a picture reframed
you're too right - i've got no skin in this game
passing time, waiting for the sun to fall
