Re: Circle of Titles 2022
Got some help from the band and whipped up a live from the studio song. I took a little liberty with the title and I hope that's okay.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
I turned in something for Night Sky. We went a little dark with our title, but both of our options were dark, so we leaned in and tried to work some stuff out. Hope it's not too heavy for the title-giver! Steve is not to blame for the rather rudimentary drums.
Night Sky is Sally on lyrics, Steve on drums, and Matt on the other stuff

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
Hey guys! I got sidetracked with =https://jonporobil.bandcamp.com/track/ ... er project that took longer than expected, then I needed basically the entire three-day weekend to recover, so unfortunately I'm behind schedule too. Sorry about that!
Let's aim to have these in by the end of this coming weekend, Sunday the 11th, does that sound good? I'll reveal all the titles and songs at that point.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
Submitted a "safety". I've got a cub scout meeting to take my kid to and I feel like I'm still missing a melody or something in my bridge and I haven't gotten my drums in but I at least got two verses recorded last night so I have that and a chorus so whatever.

About to update my google drive link I mailed again. Will probably record some more vox here in an hour or so once my toddler takes a nap. I'll call it good enough after that.

Oh, well done! I'm all about those keyboards and that vibe.
(also, I feel like you're almost *always* more stripped down)

Hey, I’ve done the first half of that drive many times! Grew up in Kingman (gotta dispute the “oasis” characterization) and live in NorCal now, so everything from 395 to Flagstaff is very familiar.lichenthroat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:25 pmI'll post mine, too.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
I'm glad you had familiarity with the lyrics. This song is about an experience I’ve wanted to write about for a long time. When I first went to college, I left Ridgecrest, California, at 7:00 p.m. and drove overnight to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I drove at night because my old truck didn’t have air conditioning, and also just because I thought it would be a cool experience. Given the circumstances of leaving home for the first time, the trip acquired a mythic feel to me, both at the time and in my memory. I don’t know how well I’ve conveyed that in the song; I can see how it might seem anticlimactic. Anyway, I was happy to get a title that fit the experience of leaving home but having not yet arrived at an unknown future.mholland wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 7:01 pmHey, I’ve done the first half of that drive many times! I always liked Kingman. I have noticed, though, that it tends to be portrayed negatively in other people’s writing. Nevertheless, I’ll always have a pleasant memory of stopping at midnight at a then-new, brightly lit Shell station for fuel and a snack.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
Hey folks - sorry about the super long delay!
I see you've all shared your songs, which... yeah, I don't blame you there. I managed my time poorly and crunched myself to finish two unrelated songs before starting work on my Circle of Titles song(s) in earnest... And then got some kind of crud that kept me from breathing properly or having any energy for recording and posting stuff. Anyway, you don't wanna hear my sob story, let's do this thing!
Here's the full circle:
Brown Word submitted the titles "Neither Here nor There" and "After Eternity." They were assigned to Lichen Throat, who recorded "Neither Here Nor There."
Lichen Throat submitted the titles "Comptroller" and "Army of Goths and Hoboes." They were assigned to Pigfarmer Jr., who recorded "Comptroller."
Pigfarmer Jr. submitted the titles "Patch of Blue" and "Misdirection." They were assigned to Phlub, who recorded "Patch of Blue."
Phlub submitted the titles "Alarm Clock Blink" and "DEET." They were assigned to Lucky Witch and the Righteous Ghost, who recorded "DEET (Bloodsucker)."
Lucky Witch and the Righteous Ghost submitted the titles "Dark Tourist" and "An Act of Delicate Violence." They were assigned to Night Sky, who recorded "Dark Tourist."
Night Sky submitted the titles "Yes, Dmitri," and "Aging Novelties." They were assigned to Jon Porobil, who recorded "Yes, Dmitri/Aging Novelties" (unfortunately still in progress, but here's a demo - sorry for the delay!)
Jon Porobil submitted the titles "How Dare" and "Green Time." They were assigned to Brown Word who recorded "Green Time."

Thanks for "Comptroller," PFJ! I've always thought there should be a song with that title, somewhere, and now there is. I like how you used a weird, bureaucratic word in a punk song.

Re: Circle of Titles 2022
Hi there! Sorry for letting so much time elapse - I just wanted you to know how pleased I am with your song for my title. The lyrics speak to me very much. I moved to Texas from Wisconsin when I was in my early twenties, a road trip in itself and about a month later I drove myself to Las Cruces. I wasn't prepared for a road trip alone and this was the days before cell phones were ubiquitous and I certainly had no notion of bringing a gun along. I did in fact break down along the way, just as I stopped for gas and after that was quite nervous. As the light was dying, I saw a hill with 3 silhouetted crosses and combined with very little to listen to except Jesus radio and a harmonica I brought but only knew one song for, it was not a sight that comforted me. I pulled into Fort Stockton well after dark and grabbed some fast food and holed up in a Motel 6 and watched Get On The Bus. There was about a 1 inch gap under the door and the desert wind screamed all night and I froze my buns off. Was I glad to get to Las Cruces and see my pals after all that. But there is that twilight period of not actually being anywhere at all. You just pass highway towns, highway houses, places other people live and you have perhaps too much time to think. Anyway, long way of saying thank you!lichenthroat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:25 pmI'll post mine, too.
