This title reminded me of when I first joined SongFight! in 2004 and people on these message boards would post "Nevada!" and then an enormous jpg of a Nevada landscape to effectively end a discussion thread because no one wanted to wait around the minute or so it took the image to load, and even once it did it made the text fields so wide that you had to scroll left/right to read the posts. I tried to find an example of it but it looks like the mods made it impossible to do ever again and retroactively removed the image.

Apologies if everyone here thought that was obvious but thinking about that made me feel old. I still used a Nokia 3310, I never got my wife's PalmPilot connected to the WiFi because her work used 802.11g which was new and strange to me. I had to prepare my SongFight! songs by mixing from my Tascam 4-track to my Archos Jukebox 6000 (damn I miss that machine) to convert them to digital in mp3 format.

Deep Throat, the mysterious provider of the titles, must have been feeling some nostalgia for those old days, because of title #1000. I don't remember for sure but I think a lot of that Nevada photo thread spiking thing happened on the previous forums, provided by the Dumbrella Internet comics/etc. collective folks, which sadly seem to have been lost in the past. The Internet Archive saved some pages listing threads but not the pages for the actual threads with the posts. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was still happening even in these forums.

And yeah the Nevada post was a thing Jefff posted once when a thread was getting extremely heated, and it became a thing. Modern phpBB still lets you post gigantic images that take forever to load but it lays the page out such that it doesn't fuck up other posts anymore, so it's not as effective these days. It's nothing to do with admin action, everything to do with more modern web design.
