What would you rather have?

I would take the million bucks. I'm more important to me than other people are and I have enough peace now so I'd hope for that to continue while I enjoy all the cool shit my million bucks bought.

Yeah, million bucks FTW. Fuck world peace. Fucking hippies.

The million bucks would probably last longer, if only by a few days.

I'd take the world peace

....but only on the condition that it doesn't apply to fucking Belgians.

Easy. I don't believe in world peace but I do believe in lots of money.

Yeah, I'll take the million and limit my travel to the more relatively peaceful places on the planet.

If you believe in World Peace then let me sell you this bridge I keep in San Fransisco for an even one million dollars.

World peace would just result in overpopulation, exceed the planets weight limit and spin us out of control until we crash into Uranus. So for the good of Earth, all of it inhabitants and Uranus, I'll take the mil.

[short version in angry red]

Ugh, what a sad score. You $-choosers have no sense of perspective, or you're nuts in some other way.

I don't believe in the likelihood of world peace either. But we're talking hypothetical here. The poll assumes you can choose it and get it. It's a once-in-a-lifetime bargain! (I'm assuming it's implied it would last a while.)

So in the one scale we have you getting a million dollars. In the other scale we have a single person not being shot dead or made miserable for somebody else's reasons. That not enough yet? Multiply the contents of that second scale a few orders of magnitude - now we're getting into 'world peace' league.

And this is considering that you, making music and on the internet and all, probably don't have the roughest life on Earth as a baseline (no +$million) position.

Still finding your scale heavier? You're like the wise-guy bacterium that killed off Tchaikovsky or some such, feeling so fine and smug about itself that it got a bit fatter. Except you don't have the excuse of having no brains.

What is world peace?
Does it end aids and cancer?
Will it end children dying from illness?
Thieves politely rob you?
The economy is always perfect?
No more tsunamis, earth quakes, plane crashes or car accidents?
No starving people in the world?
?

Yeah it wasn't defined at all; but 'peace' is peace! It's this happy situation when you're not under siege. WP is that, for everyone. Even if it doesn't imply 'no tsunamis' and 'no illness' it minimally has 'no air raids' and 'no torturing child soldiers'.

And the poll gives it 'by magic' or 'for free', so we don't need to worry that this WP is achieved in some 1984 way.

My wrath is not for those who just don't trust the magic of the BBpoll. As long as you think of the Earth as well as Uranus.

I think you're missing BLT's point. You're telling us that WHAT the poll ASSUMES...as if it were defined. Then you tell us its not defined. We KNOW that! :D We can't READ YOUR MIND to know what you think we should know and what it is that you're telling us we should assume!

I interpreted the poll to offer me two things. One completely unrealistic and another a long shot possibility. Therefore *I ASSUME* its a trick and I'm going for what is tangible.

And of course...since its NOT defined and completely without a timetable...well...I don't trust it for second, no sir... not even for half a second.

Hoblit, about my assumption: if an internet poll asks whether I prefer a Stegosaurus or a T-Rex, I'll pretend that it can give me those, rather than reply "Poll, I don't trust you to really have these in store". And "world peace" is not quite clear but I think there's some consensus on things it implies.

The beef I have is with interpreting the poll as both choices being realistic for the sake of argument - and then choosing the money.

I figured you and BLT interpreted the poll in a "yeah, right..." way, perhaps shedding a single tear of youthful idealism long embattled! Don't worry I won't buy this certain bridge of yours because I may as well wait for this poll to actually generate world peace ;)

In that case, me too. But in the meantime, would you like to go on vacation with me to Uranus? I have a million bux burning a hole in my pocket. :P

Ha...yeah. We crush dreams.

As for the Stegosaurus or T-Rex example...both of those are extinct. In the current poll, only one of items is extinct! That confuses the whole thing. ;-)

....he he.... and BLT...take me! take me! Imagine what we could do with TWO million dollars. (That's like... 4 women at once!)

Ah - is that the sort of trip BLT stands for? How about a mission to Mars instead? But only genetically peaceful people can join. We can take our leave and hop to the next planet once UV radiation has these genes mutate towards money-grabbing. This way we'll gradually find the perfect balance between reduced radiation and an awfully chilly atmosphere.

Or set up the BLT Philantropic Fund.

Or how about a medicated KPAX inspired Napoleon from Neptune.

Ha, I like that tune, Hobz. It rings with a Men At Work vibe to me for some reason. That's the other singer, right?

Like it too - nice bass hook!

It rings with Super Furry Animals' "Guacamole" for me (tiny bit on Youtube, mixed with Björk?).

Had never heard of K-PAX but seems worth a look. Before we waste BLT's money you know.

I think the Men At Work vibe I'm getting is more from the vocal reverb with the vibrato and the backup vocals in the chorus. Is it just me, or is anyone else hungry for a Vegemite sangwich all of a sudden?

ALSO... BLT..thanks for the comment on the backing vocals. Even if you don't mean it as a compliment it does serve some purpose. Our drummer is bucking to not have those backing vocals anymore. In fact, it just came up at last practice. The fact that you have noticed them as an emphasis to the sound of the song is arguing mine and our rhythm guitarist's point. So thanks for that.

I didn't mean it as a bad thing either. Who am I to say what you should or shouldn't sound like. But you could become a Men At Work tribute band quite easily. :P
