Hello to you from a newbie

Post by bambamoozle »

Hi there - My name is John, and I've just joined your board here...I don't know how I haven't been by the SongFight.org site before but I haven't until this week, and it looks like fun.

I do have to say that I'm pretty impressed with what yawl can come up with in just a few days, so I'm gonna give it a shot myself with this week's Elegy For Industry. The tune I've penned is a bit more upbeat sounding than an elegy, but perhaps you'll love it so much you'll forget that elegies are supposed to be sad (har har!).

So, a short text to describe my mom? Well, that's what it says at the top. Ok, she's 73, 5 foot tall, with white hair. You can't miss her.

Keep on keeping on,

John Kloberdanz

Hey Buffalo Bill, I like Baltimore for the Yuelings and the softshell crab, but at least we've got the lager here now!

Welcome, John!

SongFight has been going on for some time. (Take a look at the archives. It is awesome -- as in awe inspiring.) It is always great when people pull out strange new perspectives on the title the a given week.

Personally, I think there are a number of ways to take this week's title as upbeat. I was wanting to do a poppy 50s style number with typical up-beat rhythm and with a cheery tone delivering lyrics about the death of the recording industry. (The fact that I wish the RIAA would just up and die makes this less ironic than you might expect, but that is me. I've stopped acquiring music I can not legally share.)

However, I'm not in for this fight. My baby has been home for just barely over a week. While she is good natured and probably wouldn't mind me singing, the feedings every three hours leave me a bit exhausted for the mental exercise required for composition. Couple that with the fact that I'm still learning my tools, and I'm new to the whole song writing thing altogether, and, well...

Don't worry, though. You'll get your chance to beat me soon enough.
