Mega Man 3 was the first to offer the slide maneuver, but came before the accursed "mega buster." It's one of the longest Mega Man games, and has some of the best level design (the pre-Wily section where you have to play through the ruined stages of previous bosses was particularly innovative). Also, I know it's really subjective, but if you ask me, 3 had the best music of the bunch.

See... I think the slide is just pointless. I view the original Mega Man as a classic, and Mega Man 2 as the ultimate vision of what the game should be. 3-8 aren't even worth mentioning in my eyes. 9 was a retooling of a classic Mega Man 2...

Mega Man 2. I play that game still just to listen to the soundtrack. Best soundtrack by far. Especially after hearing it redone and lyricked? Lyricized? Lyricified? covered by The Megas. Lyricated?

I suppose it's that we keep bumping this silly poll from June 2009. Yeah well, I never saw it till Mr. Haiyce resurrected it. And the Megaman 2 soundtrack is deserving of our continued, unending attention!
