Song Fu #6

Masters Of Song Fu #6 will start sign ups on Monday, Jan 25th. I didn't know if anyone here would be interested in competing or not. It's similar to Song Fight in that it's a song writing competition with a given topic & time limit. The big differences are that the challenges are a little more specific. They often give you a topic & sometimes a style of music you have to write. Another difference is that it's not a 1 & done format. I don't know if it'll be a head to head match up like in the first couple Song Fu's or if they'll stick with the current system in which the winner is whoever gets the most votes over 3 rounds of competition. Either way, you're committing to 3-4 songs vs 1 at Song Fight. The last big difference is there is supposed to be a Master for you to battle in the final round. Past Masters have included Jonathan Coulton, Paul & Storm, Neil Innes, etc...

I've been trying to get a few of the Song Fu'ers to compete in Song Fight, so I thought I'd see if anyone in Song Fight would like to compete in Song Fu. Jonathan Mann entered the last tournament, and I think he's the only Song Fighter to do so.

I'll try to remember to post the sign up info here when Ken Plume posts it.

Yeah, they were a master at one point.
It looks a little like our beloved "Nur Ein" here.
Is there an RSS feed for that?

It's a shame that site wasn't updated after that round.

For those interested, remember the sign ups should be starting Monday. Ken might try to limit the number of people who he allows in, so I would try signing up quickly if you're interested. I'll try to post a link to the sign up page asap here when I see it. But he didn't say when on Monday he would post it so I would just check this link from time to time.

Great, do you know if you got in yet? In the past Ken has set a limit of 20 people, but never really enforced it. This time apparently he says he's going to be strict. I've only heard from 1 person getting a comfirmation e-mail so far.

Holy crap. I honestly did not realize. I thought I had. It's what happens when the action is here and that's just the mirror. (That and I did split with my wife around the time of the Nur Ein and so I was a bit distracted). I think it's about time that Nur Ein gets a nifty new and better organized site anyway.

Ken just announced the list of people who got in. I was disappointed that no Song Fighters got in. Maybe next time, but the Song Fu vets were probably waiting at their computer for the minute the sign ups went live. If anyone wants to submit "Shawdow Entries" I know Ken typically posts them on the site with the challengers songs. People just can't vote on them.

Ha, well Sammy reviewed the Song Fu'ers pretty hard as well last time, so I don't think that had anything to do with it. :p Matter a fact the some of the Song Fu people really got mad at Sammy. Sammy's alter ego is actually in Song Fu 6, so he's going to get reviewed by his peers now. If anyone here wants to review a round of Song Fu on the blog they are welcome. I'm always glad to have guest reviewers who are musicians since I have no expertise in music.

It was supposed to be the first 20 to sign up, but I have a feeling Ken might have hand picked a couple based on things I've heard from different people.

High Five, JB.
You don't have to kiss anybody's ass to compete over here.

If the link was meant to refer to this:

"I'm here because I was asked to join. I am not a musician and I never intend to be one."

He indeed does write music though. He just usually goes by his alter ego when doing his music thing. You've seen his picture obviously, so if you check out the Song Fu 6 list you can probably figure out which one he is.

I'll agree that with JB about Song Fight being better, in some ways. I mean this place is run a lot better then Song Fu is & has a much stronger community, but I like the idea of having a "Master" or "web famous" musician to battle it out with at the end. 1 big problem is that Song Fu isn't run well, and the last 2 tournaments the "Master" dropped out....sort of defeats the purpose of even calling it Masters Of Song Fu. Hopefully it gets back on track this time, but Song Fu 4 & 5 were big fails.

The voting went up for Round 1 last night. There was 1 shadow entry, but not from Song Fight unfortunately. Maybe next round.

The round 2 challenge has been announced if anyone would like to post a shadow entry. Ken posts Shadow entries just like regular ones.
CLARIFICATION: Your song can be in any style, but must not contain any rhymes of 2 dissimilar words within a traditional verse structure. Exact repetition of a phrase or word is permitted. Your song must run no shorter than 1 minute 30 seconds.
