Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Good idea, fluffy. I'll put that on my TODO list.
It seems like the spammers haven't come back, or if they have they have been foiled so far by my super primitive anti-spam measures. We'll see how long they wait before they decide to try slightly harder.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
They all participated in the JB 40th birthday fight, which has start/end dates of 08/21/72 and 08/21/12, respectively:
http://sfjukebox.org/fights/jbturns40
I guess I'm not really tracking the "real" calendar dates of the fights, probably because as far as I know that data isn't tracked in the original archive either. (Is it?) I am preserving the "archive order" though, which is not stored as an explicit "field" of the fights in the archive text file, but is encoded implicitly in the order in which the fight data are stored in the archive text file. (Good times!)
The other fight for which this is relevant is "It's Charging":

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Yeah, "It's Charging" is also obnoxious in that way. I was hoping to do a bit of fiddly data analysis based on band "lifetime" (particularly with win/vote statistics) so I guess I'll have to handle those exceptions exceptionally.

I find it charming that there are these anomalies. Like a quirky indie game that is hard to figure out and kind of devious about it.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
It would hav been nice to also save the "real" data too, though. I suppose I could do that on the Jukebox side going forward, saving the day that the title goes up, the day the songs are posted, and the day the results are posted, for every fight. But that stuff was never recorded for the old fights and so is basically lost at this point, which is kind of too bad from the perspective of doing data mining of the kind fluffy is trying to do.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Well, both of the weird-timed fights can be intuited by other stuff. It's Charging took place sometime between whichever fights it came between (I forget if it was ever on the front page or not - I thought it had just been added to the archive with a newspost of the "missing fight") and the JBBirthday one obviously started a week or so before its end date.
Also, FWIW, It's Charging was never a normal fight - those entries were all by drew, done for funs and Narbotic went ahead and posted it as if it were a missing fight. I don't think drew ever used any of those band names for other entries in other fights, either, so they aren't really part of the archive for data-mining purposes anyway.
(This fight was also drew's way of admitting that most of the "bands" on Song Fight up to that point were him all along, since most of them sounded like other bands he'd entered as. Man, he's one versatile dude.)

New feature!
There is now a "repeat one" mode. Click the "repeat" button twice to activate it (or hit your 'r' key on your keyboard twice if you're on a desktop/laptop).
You're welcome.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
I hopefully have also fixed the posting of announcements of new titles, fight results, and new songs to the Song Fight! Facebook page, but I'm too lazy to test it, so we'll have to wait till the next one of those events happens to see...

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
I just did a little redesign on the Jukebox, trying to improve the way the songs are displayed, particularly trying to make it look better on mobile. I had resorted to truncating titles/artist names in portrait view on mobile because of layout issues with having the name wrap onto additional lines as necessary. I redid the layout so that's not an issue anymore and the full names/titles show up and just wrap if they have to. This was all based on some suggestions from Manhattan Glutton. Thanks Mike!
Roymond, I added back links to the individual song pages, from the home/fight/artist pages. So it should be easier now to go to the page for an individual song and share its URL if you want to.
I also did this because I think the next thing I want to add is commenting on songs. I'm thinking of trying to make something that can do what JB's "Review This Week's Fight" used to do back when the Yahoo! player was still working.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
glennny's working on a pretty sweet playlist of "All Time Classic" Song Fight! entries over on the Jukebox:
http://sfjukebox.org/playlists/139
What would your "classic Song Fight! entries" playlist have on it? Go make it on the Jukebox!

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
That's simply awesome!
Are these displayed in fight-date order?
I wonder if putting the fight due date in a light grey under band name would be fun for folks?

They're in whatever order Glen chose. I can add display of the fight date if you'd like.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Niveous has posted his favorite songs selected from ALL of the Song Fight! archive through 2013. Yes, he listened to ALL the songs! Amazing! Now you can see his top 755 picks across these three playlists. So much good stuff in there. Thanks Niv!

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Sam - am I missing it or can we not share a private playlist? It would be an awesome tool for learning each others' sets leading up to SFL.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
And since I haven't whined about it recently, have we lost direct MP3 links? Being a subterranean commuter, I load up songs and would love to create a playlist, then download all the songs via iDownload or some other app. All it needs is a direct link somewhere (even just a period).

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
Currently, private playlists are only visible to their owners. But I could add a "visible to anyone who has the link" setting too. Good idea!
Also, yeah, I don't currently have the mp3s in the pages as links at this point. The URLs to the mp3s are in data attributes on divs, if I recall correctly. You should be able to get a .m3u file of any fight/artist/song page by adding .m3u to the end of the URL (before the query string if there is one). I didn't want to make it super easy to download the files from the jukebox, that seemed like something that might be better done from the official archive.

Re: Song Fight! Jukebox
This is great! But I lost my playlists (no biggy). When I recreated one it also disappeared but I had saved as "available to anyone with the link" and remembered its number and it's available (and now shared). But none show under "my playlists" so I logged out and in to see if that was it but it's still empty.
