Leave a message after the beep.
My name is johndisk0. I am a long time listener, recent fighter. I have been singing since I was 6 and pursued it as a career from high school through college. I worked for Disney parks for a while and really couldn't get any upward momentum, so I stopped music altogether to "settle down" and find focus.
I've regretted that ever since.
I didn't make or perform music for over 10 years. Then, after listening to Team Teamwork, I started remixing video game songs with contemporary artist vocals. I got a little good at it and started DJing small parties. I put my earliest works up on a newgrounds page under this same name.
I have always wanted to participate in songfight! I hope you let me stay

Welcome to Songfight! Please be awesome.
Wow, jb. Calling up some evil spectres there. Hopefully this isn't a Beetlejuice/ Candyman situation.

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
I kinda figured jb was doing that. I hope I don't become that or am not perceived as such. While I cannot promise to be awesome, I can promise to not suck as bad as I think I do already. Furthermore, I promise to always improve based upon input from people who know better than me.

What about input from people who know a lot less than you? You'll be getting plenty of it. Welcome!johndisk0 wrote:I promise to always improve based upon input from people who know better than me.

But didn't we ban that guy from the forum after he posted a giant goatse?jb wrote:It was more like "if we didn't kick THAT guy out, you're pretty safe."

Can't remember. The forums aren't a pre-req to fighting, though if you're trolling I can see how being banned from your ability to see the effect of your troll would put a damper on your enthusiasm. Song trolling is a lot more work than just plain old trolling.

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
Lightning Ear Fart might have gotten banned from the forums (though I don't remember him ever posting at all, to be honest), but I don't think he was ever prohibited from entering a song. Even when he submitted an hour-long encoding artifact.
But intentions mean a heck of a lot (much more than whether your songs are any good, as far as I'm concerned), and you've already proven your intensions are more noble than LEF's.
Welcome!

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
IIRC that was when we were still on the Dumbrella forum and it was a huge hassle because we didn't have any moderators of our own, and I remember that being a big motivating factor for why we finally decided to move to our own forum. So, thanks, LEF, wherever you are!Niveous wrote:But didn't we ban that guy from the forum after he posted a giant goatse?jb wrote:It was more like "if we didn't kick THAT guy out, you're pretty safe."
On a related note, whatever happened to Artificial Gripe? Did he finally realize that Song Fight is way more of a community thing than Narbotic's thing?

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
Well, after being a member of the forums for about 20 days now, I'm starting to see that I am in way over my head. Oh well. I am going to keep submitting fights as I do not see myself as bad as your worst entries. Hopefully, I will learn something and get better or learn that I shouldn't be here and just fade into the ether. I would much rather it be the former instead of the latter. Thanks for all of your input so far and comments to come!

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
Realizing your faults is an important step. Learning from them is another. The biggest part is just not giving up.

Keep at it!Woody Allen wrote:"I made the statement years ago which is often quoted that 80 percent of life is showing up. People used to always say to me that they wanted to write a play, they wanted to write a movie, they wanted to write a novel, and the couple of people that did it were 80 percent of the way to having something happen. All the other people struck out without ever getting that pack. They couldn’t do it, that’s why they don’t accomplish a thing, they don’t do the thing, so once you do it, if you actually write your film script, or write your novel, you are more than half way towards something good happening." - Woody Allen

Re: Leave a message after the beep.
Hey everyone,
I know I don't make music the same way all of you do. And to be honest, I'm starting to feel like I am more of a hindrance than a helper around here. That doesn't mean I am going to give up. I still have a ton of fun making music. I just know it's not what you guys are used to in your fights. Anyway, I thought I would post what I consider to be my best mashup for you guys to hear. I made this while I was touring in Japan and I used it at my farewell concert. I didn't post it anywhere other than here, so I hope you enjoy.
It is a combination of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" and Beastie Boys (feat. Nas) "Too Many Rappers" from their Hot Sauce pt 2 album. It's a little rough because I was just starting out, but it is one of my best. If you like it, I will post another. If you don't, let me know how to make it better. Oh, and i dropped the swearing for my kids. They like my songs, which is what really counts for me
