Re: Is it all in my head? (My Favorite Monster Reviews)

My favorite monster was Vom Vorton . I was humming it to myself at work today -- well done! My second-favorite monsters were Third Cat (with their swankadelic wonderland) and Heine (who attempted something reasonably ambitious and pulled it off). I'm always jealous of the superb musicianship that ap...

I'd like to thank Ujn for helping me relive my teenage infatuation with Screeching Weasel.

I'd also like to thank Owl for letting me know that Pete Shelley died... but... only sort of. Homosapien is one of my all-time favorite records. Everyone should go listen to it.

Re: Cutting corners on your mix? (They Know reviews)

right now I just wanted to say that all of the songs production wise... sound fantastic! I'd like to second what my other half said. You guys really knocked out some top notch tracks. That being said, if the contest were simply to appeal to me, I'd give James Owens the first place medal. That was j...

So I dunno about you guys but this morning I was standing in the line in front of my local record shop waiting for... RECORD STORE DAY! And at 9:45 AM a little reminder goes off on my phone reminding me to submit to songfight*. Daaaangit! Should I get out line and run home to submit? I chose... to w...

Yeah, I'm comin' in with a strophic Lieder about a girl who'd been trepanned. STROPHIC. Ftw. In contrast to the rest of the entries, which will simply be... cata-strophic. Mine clocked in at well under a minute. I planned on doing (du-ing?) something Husker Du-esque, but while it's certainly...

Ever read a book where you're like, hey, this is going pretty well? And then you're looking at how much of the book is left and you're like, wow, I don't know if the author is going to to pull this off. And then the ending is just a total cop out that makes you wish you never read the book? That'll ...

Well, I'm in. After not looking at SF in forever, I saw the title Monday morning and was like zomgz, that title's totally devo -- I totes have to enter!! So I knocked out a song during lunch and... it's cringe-y. Sorry. Even more so since I took it back to the old school and recorded on a broken 4 t...

Re: It's About Time you hear this.... (reviews)

When you said you were waiting for the drop at 1:07, does that mean I was too predictable, or that it was satisfying when the drums kicked in? Yes? I mean, it was predictable in the sense that the listener expected it. But pop music has to first meet (or satisfy) the listener's expectations, right?...

Hey Fight-Pals!! First, let me apologize for not reviewing the last couple fights I entered, wow. I am a bad person and I beg your oversight if not forgiveness. I did listen and vote though! My review are brief, personal reactions, right? I assume that you're an adult (or mature adolescent) and you ...

Re: Gonna write her a song, eh?

So I found a cassette tape (Artie Shaw's Big Band Hits) in a parking garage a few days ago. I was like, showing it to people going, "look, a tape!" all the while thinking about how I haven't even owned a tape player for like, a dozen years. But I've been hearing about how they're cool again and seei...

Well wow, after a long absence from SF I had a few days off so I'm in. For the first time in memory, I am in without my better half (Ujn). So you poor folks will have to listen to me intone mournfully. Sorry about that. Synth and syn-percussion sounds provided by my home-built modular synthesizer......

Bummed I missed the listening party... Anyway, I dug particularly on the entries by Dutova and Missions to Proton. Dutova, were I wearing your pants I would have driven everything up into ear-bleeding territory and it would be Husker-tastic. MtP, I'm sure you recognize the way the vocal levels jump....

Win for the noobs this week, hot damn! Bubble Pipe et al. - I want to know EXACTLY what you did to that vocal track. This was my favorite of the fight. Missions to Proton - This was my second favorite of the fight. Had Bubble Pipe et al not done such interesting things to their vocals in the stereo ...

Ujn and I will be shrugging off our usual synthpop jackets and donning our blistering, brutal hardcore pants. But I think it's been years since either one of us has entered without a collab, so... dunno if that counts. :D

I'd like to suggest some mandatory challenges. I realize the judges may not pick 'em up this year, but hopefully they'll stick in the minds of future years' judges when they read this. And, you know, two years later they'll think they came up with the ideas themselves. As you may know, I'm for SERIO...
