Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Maybe Apple could, but, what's Apple's motivation to change the dynamics...? Taylor Swift complained, and Apple changed their streaming terms to be more favorable to artists. I had way too much typed and just deleted it. To get to the point: Apple needs the mindshare of creators for many reasons - ...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I think if the artist has enough pull to be able to make it pay off, good for them. If it doesn’t, well, so long; there are enough artists lined up to take your place. I’d hate to see services responding by banning this type of thing. If it works, more artists will do it. If more artists do it, then...

I personally was not proposing any modification of the audio in the files, just adding metadata. So could we maybe please stop wasting time arguing about something that wasn't mooted in the first place? :P
If you just want to post guidelines, do it. I don't think anyone will object.

Re: Loudness management

As I understand it, ReplayGain calculates ... While it might not be in the spirit of the ReplayGain standard, you can calculate the value in REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN however you like. The same is true for iTunNORM . So, you could calculate and adjust the loudness using LUFS in order to be more accurat...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

Just an FYI for anyone who may have jumped the gun... Izotope is awesome and credited me both $150 and Iris 2 for my Suite purchase. :P That's ~$150 less than getting Music Production Suite directly, or just about the same as the bundle of only Neutron & Ozone Advanced. [...] you can also get iZotop...

Virtual choir recommendations

What are your experiences with realistic choir virtual instruments? Favorites? Disappointments?

Any gospel ones, in particular?

vstbuzz.com is selling EastWest's Hollywood Orchestra Gold for around $250. That's roughly half of the current special price on EastWest's website, which in turn is ~25% discounted, so the total saving is around 62.5%.
Is this worth it over Kontakt Ultimate's orchestra selection?

Re: Loudness management

You can do this non-destructively and automatically by providing a player that abides loudness metadata (Nur Ein site now does this - LUFS calculations are server-side and the client scales the volume slider) or by adding the ReplayGain and/or Apple tags to the MP3 files - which requires users to ha...

Re: You're blocking my view (Please Move prefight)

I just tried playing 5 YouTube videos to get a good feel for the phyrygian. They all start out with "hey guys" and then go on for about 20 minutes and, somewhere hidden in those 20 minutes of video I skipped through, they play a full scale, but interrupt it with a minute of talking, so as to make it...

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

And then once you have Izotope Studio, which comes with Melodyne Essentials, upgrade to Melodyne Assistant for $99 from Sweetwater.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

Apparently, iZotope is having a sale. This is a great summer for blowing tons of money and supporting the software you may have used illicitly. https://www.izotope.com/ Ozone Standard: $99 (reg $249) Ozone Advanced: $199 (reg $499) Neutron Standard: $174 ($249) Neutron Advanced: $279 ($399) Neutron+...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

So... BFD had a 1/2 off on expansions sale. Look, it was a high-pressure situation past the "sale date". Okay, yes, I spent too much money on drum samples this past week. I have a problem. But hey, it's better than other hobbies... like cocaine or PCP. Anyway, the point of this update is that - afte...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

I'm going to give an update to those who are riveted and on the edge of their seats about my Fake Drum Journey. Every spare minute I've had has been spent listening to the same midi track over and over with different samplers, samples, and FX. I bought some Analogue Drums kits for Kontact. I like th...

Re: Nur Ein Site Redesign

I went down a web performance rabbit hole because fluffy had a complaint about 'responsive design'. I don't know if this is the original reason for the complaint, but some techy people might find it fascinating. Problem: Chrome scrolling is slow, causing "unresponsive" UX artifacts. (Safari works as...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

After more playing around with Komplete, I think the real issue I have is that the Native Instruments drum packages just aren't what I want in fake drums. They are easy to drop in, play-ready. It takes way too much time for me to get them setup the way I want, and I think the samples kind of sound c...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

Oh no! Now I have more things to consider, stop that. Though the Room Sound looks pretty cool... I just want one user interface with all the flexibility to do all the samples from all the kits... :( Like, I've got to remember what each one of these things sounds like and open the right Native Instru...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

Hmm, Analogue Drums look like interesting Kontakt-friendly drum additions that might more easily mix and match...

But now I'm wondering if I should just save up for Superior Drummer 3... something about hit smoothing between cymbals for realism. Except SD + expansions is now talking $1000+ alone.

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

like if you have multiple separate instruments it's not like they can magically pull the mixing engine out from each other or whatever I guess I assumed it would be like SD, where the one VSTi can load in samples from all their kits. In all fairness, the Abbey Road series does look like it's all th...

Re: Using Kontakt/NI drums

Nope, Toontrack Superior Drummer is EZDrummer's big brother VSTi. But, now that I'm in the NI ecosystem due to aforementioned summer sale, I'm trying to figure out my workflows. It seems kind of strange that, say, NI's DrumLab can't import samples from the other drum packages in their suite. It's li...
