Re: DIY Acoustic Baffling Article

Don’t get me wrong- I want a 3d printer. I just thought it was slightly ironic.

Re: DIY Acoustic Baffling Article

"Cheap and easy - all you need is a 3d printer" How many panels could I buy with a 3d printer?! Personally, my two novel takeaways from this thread are: * used sheets * bed foam The wood frame and backing + insulation + acoustic fabric is a fairly common formula and that's what both acoustimac and K...

Only shadows for this year are up. Anyone can be a data janitor, so if you organize all the shadows for a year and send me a zip, I’ll put them up.

Nur Ein Site Redesign

I finally have a working product for the core use case - the "title" page. See here. Notable changes: * easily navigate within a contest * volume normalization * seeking (lol) * soundcloud-like UI * responsive design with fun sticky headers/scroll-away-headers. Looks particularly good on iOS or Mac....

Re: Massive X

I tried to Google "How Massive changed the world of music" and came up empty... care to share any information? I've never used it... even though I've probably owned it for quite a few years now. I don't know much other than what I glean from the internet and the fact I only know about it due to "ho...

Re: Nur Ein XIV, Final Round: Survival

It is done. Apologies for the delay. http://podcast.songlander.com/?name=2019-06-30_nur_ein_14_round_7_podcast.mp3 The jump times are roughly along these lines but I ended up with a couple edits throwing them off. You should just listen to the whole thing. :) Agony Sauce ~4:00 Vowl Sounds ~10:30 Fin...

Massive X

Apparently, Massive X is finally released.

So, that’s exciting. I think. I use Massive but don’t play with the knobs much. When I have time to play with Massive X I’ll post back here.

What are your thoughts and feelings on this sequel VST to the VST that changed the world of music?

Re: Song Fight! Live 2019: Curds & Chords (Madison WI US 8/2-8/3)

Lucky Spoon won't be doing his own set, but we'll likely be doing some of his songs as part of my set, so it might be nice to allocate some extra time there, depending on how much we're looking at per set.

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

Thanks Mo and everyone. I guess I should elaborate on my use cases. Recording : no Making my 4x12 easier to manage in practice space : yes. Finding a cab or combo for infrequent gigs : yes. Enhancing my rig : no. Assuming you're talking about a Dual Rec half stack, and not one of the combos Yup. Thi...

Re: The Guitar Doctor Is In

Guitar doctor, how do I get good distortion out of my Dual Rectifier without blowing my ears off because the gain knob is touchy? And should I get a cab that is smaller than a severely obese grade school child, or is there a combo I might replace the whole rig with that gives me the same sound witho...

Well, we recorded Monday so this is a little out of date, but here's The New Ugly! The editing and production isn't as tight as I'm away from home.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

Just to put a bow on this - because it's very confusing!! - Maschine hardware is not on sale, and it's being advertised and sold as "bundles" - however, it's the standard price of the hardware + discounted software. So you don't have to buy the "bundle" and it may be advantageous (license-wise) not ...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

I had envisioned a system where you upload your mp3 to to whatever music contest site, and it runs some LUFS analysis software on it and based on what it discovers either accepts, rejects, or offers to "fix" it. Yeah, I'm looking at ffmpeg for exactly that and some other related purposes at this ve...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

I think "easiest" may not be the right word here. You might want to consider tackling low hanging fruit like id3 tag normalization before you set your sights on loudness normalization. I do think it would be cool though. You know what else would be cool? Artist accounts and mp3 uploads. I wasn't ev...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

I don't think that would really changes things much, From what I’ve seen in judging, yes, certain judges are affected differently and this year I think a lot of songs rode past-or got cut- on mastering. I think that’s part of the beautiful game that makes everything a little more random. But if you...

Re: Songwriting competition judging mechanisms

Not to be a downer, but what’s different about this time we all think of ideas that take effort to implement? Honestly, if the goal is to have somewhat understandable Nur Ein rankings, the easiest thing to do is ban mastering and normalize all of the tracks before handing them to the judges. If the ...

"the more you buy the more you save" mindset anyway. It's a heritable disease. what do you want the additional hardware for? If you already have a keyboard controller you're happy with I don't think the A-series would be a significant improvement. Honestly, I was looking at studio control surfaces ...
