Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Wellp, the one thing I was hoping to use Apple Music for (getting my smart playlists to sync to my phone correctly) doesn't even fucking work

Good thing this is just a free trial which I will probably be canceling in two months

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

And meanwhile I finally got fed up with iTunes no longer being able to sync my music with my phone so I signed up for the Apple Music trial, primarily to get my library available everywhere. Which is nice, but I'm also enjoying the radio stations for discovery at least.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Only slightly less cynical.

Also they still do the garbage "play count pooling" thing that Spotify does. Pay $10/month for Apple Music, stream nothing but Octothorpe, most of the music goes to bands that aren't Octothorpe.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

The motivation will hopefully come from them finding it harder and harder to find musicians to exploit and they end up having an ever-dwindling slice of the pie.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Yeah. I just hope that at some point the streaming services move to a more ethical payment model, maybe after the labels have realized they’ve screwed everyone over with this system that they fought for. Incidentally ASCAP uses the same fucking-broken model when it comes to determining performance r...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I agree with what Damian Keyes is saying - it'd be nice if listeners were to pay for music, but they don't, and as artists we have to adapt to that new reality. Personally, I don't expect to make a lot of money off of my music in terms of direct sales. I hope that maybe something I release will make...

Re: Virtual choir recommendations

If you don't care about the phonetics, the ones that come with Logic are vaguely serviceable, and I assume the same could be said for any of the large instrument collections like NI KOMPLETE or whatever. Whenever I want a chorus I just record myself a dozen times and then use a vocal transformer to ...

Yeah or, again, you could do amuse.io which is free and just as good as CDBaby.

Basically there's no reason to use CDBaby in this day and age.

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels

CDBaby also takes a 30% cut of your earnings. DistroKid pays you 100%. If you release a lot of music and get a lot of listens that adds up fast. Sounds like you might actually be better off with CDBaby than with DistroKid, but I generally release 1-2 albums a year and I'd rather play a flat fee. (Al...

Oh dang for some reason I stopped getting notifications about this thread. Thanks for posting all the video Glenny!

Also I just got notified by twitch that my recordings are going to expire soon so I’d better get around to uploading the livefigjt to YouTube, huh.

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels

Your DistroKid uploads will be active for as long as you pay the $25/year or whatever. You should never have to re-upload your stuff unless you decide to re-release a better mix or whatever.

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels

So far I'm finding that Distrokid is generally better than amuse.io. Amuse is free, but they're also way more limited in where they distribute to and what they can distribute, like they don't even do lyrics. Also they require you to use their heckin' app to see your earnings, don't give you any deta...

Re: So I found a strings plugin

I've been using Arché by Expressive E which does some of that, although it's kinda limited (like no portamento beyond pitch bend, and actually setting up the controllers for it is a chore, and so on). Sample Modeling's seems a lot more capable. A lot more expensive to match, though.
