Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)

I recorded a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren" this weekend for no particular reason other than I've been obsessed with the song lately.

It uses the sustainer on my new guitar :D (with a bunch of effects though, not straight out of the box! The acoustics are a real acoustic.)

Re: My Life

I love possums, but I'd be pretty upset if I found a surprise possum in the house too. I hope Steve went off and ate a lot of ticks somewhere else eventually.

Re: My Life

We admitted a possum tonight at the wildlife center where I volunteer, and it weighed 19 POUNDS (8.72 kg) and was the biggest possum I have ever seen!!!! I later looked up "how much does a possum weigh" on Wikipedia and the upper weight limit listed there was 14 lbs. It is so big it may have to be m...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

ooh, first time win! I haven't finished my reviews yet (sorry! It's been a bad week) but yours and Phil's were my favorites this week. I also voted for like half the songs because it was a Strong Fight.

Re: You know it's true (Something’s Wrong prefight)

Aww yeah! Glad to see you've put your new guitar to good work already! Can't wait to hear it. I take it that you're enjoying it? :) Yes!!! I'm definitely loving it as a quiet/easy practice option. Although I took it to band practice the other night, and of course it chose that moment for the batter...

Re: Cooking

This week's salad jars include: salmon "ancient grains" (I threw away the package so I'm not quite sure what's in it--some kind of chewy grains combo like red rice/barley/quinoa, and I added some wheat berries) lemon juice/honey mustard/olive oil, avocado oil, and toasted sesame oil vinaigrette fres...

Re: You know it's true (Something’s Wrong prefight)

OK, despite getting confused about the deadline, I managed to get this wrapped up, more or less, and submitted in time(ish), phew. Now I'll try to finish up my reviews for "Checkered Past" before the next prompt goes up--I got my votes in already, at least. I watched " Echo in the Canyon " last week...

2002-2005 I was running an alpaca farm on the Gold Coast. I want to hear more about this! I love alpacas. But I also went to help at an alpaca shearing once and it was NIGHTMARISH. (also gizo i checked out the band on Spotify last night when I was driving and really dug it... they only had somethin...

Something's Wrong miscellaneous owl Down in the canyon, the summer birds all sing My dad and his friend take my arms and swing me way up high And for a moment there I feel like I can fly Swing, swing, I swing a little higher Sing, sing, I toss my voice up towards the moon It rises in a sharp and wo...

ooops, I totally misremembered the deadline for this one and haven't gotten it finished yet--I thought I had till Thursday! But I have something in progress at least. Hopefully I'll manage to finish this up and sneak it in before the new prompt goes up.

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

With regard to your comments about the lyrics, this is perhaps an opportune time to mention that I’ve consistently admired the absolute fearlessness that is manifested in your songwriting. You are able to take on difficult emotional subjects, from which I would instinctively shy away, and address t...

You Only Get Better By Practising, and Perfect Is The Enemy Of Good I've had the latter quote on my FAWM profile for years! And I went to a monthly creative retreat yesterday where we were asked to put our "word of the year for 2020" on our nametags, and I ended up writing "practice" as my word. I ...

Lol!! There seemed to be a fashion for eating roo years ago - I really couldn’t get into it. I assume you are posting from the US? It is weird to think it is being exported. What is that Australian themed restaurant chain in the US? So they serve too? As far as I know, Outback Steakhouse doesn't se...

I baked a spice-filled sandworm for a Dune movie night tonight! It was a hit. That movie is awesome even if it makes no sense. Oddly enough just the other night I got in a conversation about how the Lynch version of Dune is the only one worth consuming anymore because all of the others that exist (...

June 12-13 is no good for me, because I'll be traveling for a wedding. The surrounding weekends probably aren't ideal either, but I could make them work. I don't know of any other conflicts right now.

Re: You know it's true (Something’s Wrong prefight)

I might try this one. I'm not any more punctual than I was 11 years ago (my last entry), so no promises. But I'll try. Wrote some lyrics in my lunch break, and a few ideas for chords and instrumentation. I just find recording really stressful Welcome back! Seems like there must be something in the ...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

That uncomfortable feeling was exactly what I was trying to dig into in the lyrics, a lot of ambiguity/guilt/shame around what I think from an outsider's perspective should probably really be a pretty straightforward condemnation of the adult man in the story and not really a checkered past at all ...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

miscellaneous owl : I have a lot on my mind when I listen to this track. I feel very uncomfortable about the state of things when our protagonist is suggesting they've got a checkered past (generally assumed to be of disreputable behaviours, or doing Bad Things) but every part of their story seems ...
