Gratitune (Spintunes Round 2)

Thank You Rafa & Agnes by Vom Vorton the house was quiet for a while needed a jump-start for my smile there was something massive missing from my soul it had been over a year since feline life was here when you lose a friend it’s hard to fill the hole the only answer was a little madness to bal...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

I don't tend to use any vocal tuning, mostly because I find the process so fiddly that I could probably do four or five more vocal takes in the time it would take to tune the first one, and by that point I'd probably have nailed it at least once (or as close as I ever get to nailing it, anyway). Alt...

Re: Let's all sit down and read (Poetry In The Streets Reviews)

Vom Vorton Whatever that weird clicky poppy percussive noise (I don't think it's the claps but something else?) is in the pre-chorus isn't really working for me either. It's the effected drum loop from the intro coming back in. A classic example of "this section isn't quite working but I'm out...

Re: Let's all sit down and read (Poetry In The Streets Reviews)

I burned these songs onto a CD for the car and so I have listened to them each one million times BUT for once I am not listening as I review. I am not sure how this will affect anything. Berkeley Social Scene - this is another solid BSS song but (and this probably isn't entirely fair) I couldn't hel...

Re: Beg forgiveness for our transgressions in our (Burnt Orange Offering Reviews)

That was definitely fun. I liked how both of you were mean by the end - cranky is contagious! Pleased you found time, also kinda pleased that I didn't get a song in for this fight, haha.

Thanks for the shout out!

Re: Poetry In The Streets

Poetry in the Streets - Vom Vorton when I see a blue car parked next to a new bar (poetry in the streets) when I’m stopped at a stop light see a poster for a pop night (poetry in the streets) when two yellow lines mean a parking fine to a traffic warden’s very visible boredom the rhymes hit my brai...

Re: Beg forgiveness for our transgressions in our (Burnt Orange Offering Reviews)

Pigfarmer Jr. - really interesting storytelling (even if, like Third Cat, I don't totally get what the story actually is), strong melodies and I love the arrangement and the way that it subtly develops. Would love to hear more of the keys / brass that come in towards the end but it's a good reason ...

Re: SpinTunes 15 Round 1 Challenge

I started a new job last week with less music-friendly downtime and more of a commute, so I figured listening to these in the car would be the way forward. So, firstly, thank you Spintunes entrants for submitting the perfect amount of music to completely fill a CD-R! And also for so much of it being...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story

I thought it started badly but got considerably better as it went on, and by the end I was having a pretty good time. I think I'd set myself up for a LOT of cheesy references to the other movies and then there weren't actually quite as many as I expected, although there's a few eye-rolling moments i...

I seem to have woken up with the podcast theme tune stuck in my head this morning, so consider that another vote for "I'd love a Burnt Orange podcast if you can fit one in".

The Jerks are back with another podcast for the Indigo Wave fight! No guests this time sadly. Enjoyed the podcast again! Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad that "ready with a note..." section got picked out as that's my favourite part of the song by far. Re: The drums on my song - good s...

Re: Well actually, that's violet (Indigo Wave reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - solid middle-ground BSS for me, an enjoyable listen but it doesn't quite take off like your best stuff. Vocal is really good in places, feels like it doesn't quite hit the mark in others. Synth at the end is my favourite bit I think, plus the shouted "so good!" bac...

Homepage makeover is great!

Will do some full reviews in the week but this is an engagingly weird set of songs! Really happy to be among them after a bit of an unproductive streak (the reasons for which may have snuck into my lyrics a bit).

Desperately trying to get my entry finished in time but, after a long weekend away at a wedding, two starved-of-attention kittens are making any kind of musical activity very difficult! Re: Red Warrior Needs Reviews Badly (Blue Woman Yes reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - amazing attention-grabbing intro, killer vocal melody, crunchy guitars... definitely up there with the best BSS for me. There are a few bits where the (rhythm) guitar timing feels like it could be slightly tighter, but that's the only critique I can offer because this rules....

Re: Automatic songs, automatic reviews (Yes, You're A Robot reviews)

Fair enough! The chorus harmonies are pretty effective, I guess it's the verse where it didn't quite work for me.
