Re: The Stars Are Melting! (Liquid Starshine Reviews)

Vom Vorton VOTE! The vwoooom vwooooms are making me very happy. Please make more raps. I'm pretty jealous of people who can rap, as my accent precludes it. Thank you! I'm back in a sort of new-wavey comfort zone for the next fight but I will consider it, I really like writing twisty lyrics with int...

Re: New Music Friday 20 Sep 2019

Fly Pan Am have a new album out today, their first in 15 years. Big news if anyone else was massively into Canadian experimental rock / Constellation records in the early 00s! I had a listen and there's a surprising amount of death metal screaming on it, which I did not expect. Enjoyed it though. Li...

Re: Aquaman

I thought it was fun, especially when it turned into a treasure hunt movie. After a bunch of comic book movies that take themselves Very Seriously recently I enjoyed seeing one where an octopus played the drums and Dolph Lundgren was the king of the fish people.

Re: The Stars Are Melting! (Liquid Starshine Reviews)

Chthauhaus - this is solid, but a little repetive and minimal for me, and I'm not crazy about the lead guitar sound (does it start out as a real guitar and then change to a synth guitar later on, or do my ears deceive me?). I do like the chunky bass and rhythm guitar though, it just kinda feels lik...

Re: Pocket Full Of Bones

Vom Vorton well I’ve made a connection (connection) my reflection and my health I look into the mirror (the mirror) and I only see myself I’ve killed my doppelgangers murdered all my clones I’ve got blood all down my trousers and a pocket full of bones and I’ve never no I’ve never felt more alone I...

Re: New Music Friday - 9/13/19

I listened to a bit of Metronomy and Charli XCX last night, I was enjoying Metronomy until about seven or eight tracks into the album where the energy levels seriously dropped and didn't seem to recover. I exercised my "four bad tracks in a row and I'm out rule" that I just made up, and switched. Ch...

All these services are the same old crap, good luck finding any huge differentiator. :P
I'd say this one goes beyond huge:
Pandora is only available in the U.S. right now

Re: New Music Friday - 9/13/19

I listened to a bunch of stuff on Friday, most of it good, nothing really blew me away though. Probably my two favourites: Gruff Rhys - Pang! The Utopia Strong (spacy modular synth-prog band with snooker champion Steve Davis in the band!) Also checked out: (Sandy) Alex G - House of Sugar Maybe Don't...

Re: The Stars Are Melting! (Liquid Starshine Reviews)

Had a first listen on my lunch break, this is a cracking fight! I'll write some reviews once I've had some more listens, but particularly loving the Don Mattingly's Mustache track - really good stuff.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

But I'd still rather just pay for the music that I like I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that. Like go back to the mp3 store type model? Or go back to only buying CDs/vinyl and only directly from artists? Or do you mean change the way streaming services pay out royalties so at a listeners...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I'd be happy to pay more for streaming if my money was going to the artists. But I'd still rather just pay for the music that I like and buy additional merch etc from the artists that I love, it just feels like a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Seems like a reasonable protest that is getting some attention (I've never heard of her before, will definitely have a listen now), so fair play to her. It *should* be possible for moderately successful musicians to make some money, and the internet *should* have made it easier - but I feel like Spo...

Vom Vorton I woke with a start from my end of the world dream When you woke with a start from your end of the world dream Synchronised sighs, some low-key screaming Then back to sleep for more dystopian dreaming They’ve announced it on the news, “we regret to say that sadly We must find another hom...

Re: Drinking in the (Liquid Starshine prefight)

Love the art, seconding the request for some fight artwork! I've got half a song written for this fight but didn't get a chance to do any recording over an unusually busy weekend. Will try to get something done tonight if the door hasn't slammed shut by then, I hate the thought of even a half-writte...

Re: New Music Friday - 9/6/19

I've been listening to Frankie Cosmos, it's a pretty good album but I'm not sure it really needed to be 21 tracks long. Pick the best ones, Frankie! There's also a new single today by Ellis Jones' new band, if anyone was into Trust Fund then it's that guy. They've got the somewhat infuriating name "...

Re: I think you've got my chair (Please Move Reviews)

Vomit Vorton: I did absolutely zero research on the Phyrgian thing but I'm gonna stab in the dark and guess that you've gone for the challenge. Nice rhyme of "clothes" with "exposure", the "respect, no?" part was a bit cheesy. I like the chords in this, it's got a good sense of tension. The drums s...

Re: I think you've got my chair (Please Move Reviews)

Absolutely Credible - this hooked me in straight away with those crunchy power-pop guitars and the killer synth hook, but on my first couple of listens I didn't find the rest of the song as compelling. The rest of it really grew on me though - it's a really strong vocal performance. I wish there we...

In, with something fuzzy and a little odd and possibly phrygian? I'll let somebody with more musical knowhow be the judge of that.
