Re: One shape does not fit all (Square State prefight)

I've sent something. Possibly to be updated depending on how strict this fight's deadline turns out to be! But mostly just pleased to have actually recorded something.

Re: I Write Them Every Hundred Years (The Return of the Century Reviews)

add : that lo-fi hi-hat sound is so charming, love the organ and the doubled lead acoustic guitar bits too. Not quite as keen on the vocal here as I have been on your other recent songs for some reason, but there's nothing wrong with it, just personal taste. Minor criticism anyway, because this is ...

When the next fight is announced I'll post on the 50/90 forums and see if I can bring in some fresh blood.

Re: What's your favorite DAW?

I moved from Cubase to Reaper about 8 years ago when I started to get uncomfortable with using cracked software and wanted something reasonably priced, but 8 years down the line I'm happier with Reaper than I ever was with Cubase and it really fits my workflow very well indeed. I flirted with Ableto...

Re: Red Warrior Needs Food Badly (The Strong Button Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene - hey, another coffee song! I really love the verses, there's a lovely melancholy vibe and I really like the keys pulsing along under the guitars. The chorus doesn't quite kick in like it should for me though, the harmonies sound a bit unsure. Lichen Throat - some really inter...

Re: Lieutenant Minor Wants To See (Major Arcana reviews)

Add - there's a lot to like here, I particularly liked the contrast of the dry, percussive organ sound with the dreamy ebow (?) guitars. It didn't quite click with me like the last few of your songs though, it feels like a more conventional bit of songwriting without that slight weirdness that has ...

Re: John Wick

I'm pretty excited! I thought the second one was a huge improvement on the first (which was already quite fun). The combination of the goofy hitman hotel stuff and the exceptionally well done action is extremely appealing to me.

Ha, that's great! Excellent music-to-visual synchronisation, or whatever the catchier name that probably exists for that is.

That was a great listen, really fun to revisit some of those earlier songs. Excellent choices, not always the ones I would have gone for but all songs I was very happy to hear again!

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that - no need to fulfill the Rites of Gift if you're musically indisposed! Hope it's not too serious, I've had wrist problems myself in the past and they're difficult joints to rest.

I'm not sure who was supposed to be my musical gifter, but I'd still love to hear whatever they made of my selection, should the opportunity arise.

Re: Nur Ein XIII Final Round "The End"

I don't mind, thanks! The excitement got the better of me. I'm certainly tempted to have another go next year - the competitive format definitely got me to raise my game. I'm really happy with this batch of songs and I'm planning to polish them a little bit and stick them on bandcamp as a mini-album...

Re: Get out the tweezers for the (Bad Teenage Mustache Reviews)

add - I really love the twangy acoustic guitar riffs that drive this one. I'm not always into this kind of spoken-wordy list song but you've made it work really well. It's a weird song but extremely appealing to me. Pigfarmer Jr. - really like these lyrics, good take on the title. The distant fuzz ...

Re: Nur Ein XIII Final Round "The End"

Fixed and updated the link. This is what happens when I'm the one who edits. You should all lobby for Ben to edit. Good call on saving the Mandibles / Cavedwellers track for last, it's such a lighters-in-the-air, last-dance-at-the-apocalypse-ball track. Sorry my song didn't work as well for you guy...
