Re: Awesome Youtube videos
Hello Songfight: Nice to see you're still cranking out the weekly tunes and the yearly get-togethers. Awesome. I've put on my delurking hat to share a short video I made for a contest: It's a 30-second version of The Shining featuring pet pigs called The Swining. I know my Songfight etiquette, so if...

Best freeware recording software for Windows 8?
Hey y'all: I used to songfight several years ago, but since that time I've 1) gotten a new computer, and 2) forgotten the small amount of knowledge I had about how to record things using computers. I've recently agreed to be a part of a challenge with a group of friends that will require me to recor...

Re: Nur Ein VII: Round Four
Congrats frankie, bummer to the Chips. Not that it matters to me at this point, but Nur Ein ranking is so weird. Maybe next year some math genius could try to come up with a formula that addresses the oddity of somebody who ranks 2nd or 3rd among all judges beating somebody who ranks first among 3 ...

Re: I seem to have become a songfighter
Also, as a child my billionaire parents were brutally shot to death in a dark alley after a movie by a scared thug with the implausible name of "Welcome to Songfight", who fled into the darkness thereafter shouting the words "please be awesome." I never found him. WELL I'M HERE ...

Dear Songfight: Me and a friend of mine recently recorded a song of mine for a chance to be part of the Great American Duet Sing-Off on Prairie Home Companion . I started writing this song almost 5 years ago (gasp) for a fight called "Don't Forget to Come to My House on Wednesday" and neve...

Re: Jan 20, 2009
I was very excited to see a show of Darger's work like 2 years ago in Seattle. I think for me, his work is less about a balance between genius and insanity, and more about the confronting the nature of what drives people to create. I mean, most of his stuff is traced from old magazines, and very rep...

SF's ratio of genres is pretty good, but a lot of it is pretty lo-fi ... that's probably my only gripe with styles at SF. If you're going to enter a song, at least put some effort into it, right? Regardless of what equipment you've got, it can sound decent if you put some effort into it and listen ...

Look, I'm just telling you what the phrase actually means. If you want to be some sort of willfully ignorant pedant, I can't stop you. The point made before was that the phrase is faulty in the logic department when taken literally. I'm quite sure if you freely interpret the phrase it makes perfect...

Re: 2008: Dec 15
"The exception that proves the rule" is useful talking about exceptions that imply that everything else is acceptable. For example, when you see a sign that says "No Parking Wednesdays", that is an exception which implies that you can park there any other day besides Wednesday. ...

Re: 2008: Dec 15
Probably "the exception that proves the rule". People use it whenever a rule has an exception. Gah. Well, that isn't exactly misused, just poorly-thought-out in the first place. The thinking goes, because anyone for whom English is a first language knows that grammar can be extraordinaril...
