Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)

Be careful. With vibraslap comes great responsibility. I used a vibraslap in Corvette just FOUR TIMES and got ... vibraslapped for it. And then the vibraslap. Makes me wonder how often in a song it can be used effectively. I think maybe the spacing is more important than the sheer number of times it...

Here's an idea, kids (that I'm not going to use).

Write a song to yourself with the title I Used to Know You Better.

I know, right?

For some reason Emma's YKIWYSI (submitted on the weekend) didn't make it up in the fight. I've resubmitted it to the fightmaster, so hopefully it makes it up.

Re: You'll Know It When You See It

I told a co-worker I would sing whatever lyrics she wrote for this title. She delivered. I delivered. You'll know it when you see it, by Emma You have to see it to believe it He’s throwing bananas at the cockpit He’s aggressive But he’s got wit Not snakes on a plane, just a monkey with a brain You’l...

So listening again, yea, I think it needs another part to be a "proper pop song." It could come right at the end of this structure and go ... somewhere ... and then back to the chorus. It's pretty!

Re: Answer to the antlers in the (Young Buck Reviews)

So – Young Buck is a really annoying title. Maybe that’s just me thinking that, but hearing it over and over in these songs is grating. (And yea, I wrote a song and sang it too.) Sorry, just a couple reviews of songs I had thoughts about. Pigfarmer – I far prefer the acoustic intro part then when th...

That Ken's Super Band track has a really lovely sound. Great vocals, love the drum sound. Very listenable, great work. I hope there are plans to write a bridge or some additional part, but great.

Edit: oops, I think you did write a bridge and I missed it. Reviewed too quick.

The Way It Isn't OG Lawn Darts [I do have a lot of genre bias about these reggae songs / Smalltown Mike gets some crap for kind of singing not very interesting melodies / I tried to figure out why don’t I like this more? / I think the problem is that we’ve heard it. Better late than never right? This time around jb joins us, so it's a bit talkier than normal. So, first off — love your work. This podcast is such a great addition to Songfight and you do a great job. So thanks. I have to correct one error in the Fussy Britches review, though. I agree the chorus o...

Re: Time to Sing your Predictions of the Future (Sing of the Times Reviews)

That podcast does make me laugh. It's a great addition to song fight. Thanks for doing it. For what it's worth, I know the shrts song is only 40 seconds long, not 50. Two people have commented on how long the fade-out is, and honestly that was a mistake. My focus is always on getting the songs short...

Re: Cutting corners on your mix? (They Know reviews)

This is a really strong fight with a lot of great tunes. Nice work, people. Midnight Yacht Club: There’s potential here with a little work on structure — instead of just the same riff repeated. Vocals might be a hair loud, too. But there’s something here. Berkeley Social Scene: Great intro. The chor...

BSS – love that opening groove. Really like this. Great driving groove. Everything is sparse, but sounds great. Great vocals. This should win. I do like a guitar solo. This is very danceable. These sentences are short.

As usual, just a couple thoughts on a couple songs. Balance Lost – what a really great style. I need to go check out your old stuff. Really like your voice and your style; sometimes it’s slightly out of time (slightly!) but always works well, even when it is. Out of curiosity, how much of the beat/m...
