I know, right? It seems like just a few weeks ago I was bitching about them charging $10.50 for IMAX, even when it was just a regular movie blown up for the big theater. A $2.50 hike in, like, a month? That's insanity!

I just saw this and loved it. The people who made the trailers should be fired, 'cos they were all bollocks. I think I read that the graphic novel was a take on Thatcher's England, but this movie is definitely about America right now. It's almost the opposite of those Matrix sequels, which were so b...

I had seen Piano Teacher before, which I thought was okay, and I just watched Time of the Wolf this week, which I loved. I'll have to check out Funny Games.

Wow. It's unfortunate that JB is going to kill you, Hoblit. It's been nice knowing you. I had my doubts about Life Aquatic, but I loved it, and continue to love it. It's not quite a Rushmore (favorite movie ever) or Royal Tenenbaums, but it's close enough. I think your feelings about it can be decid...

Anybody see this? Anybody wanna talk about it? It gets a B+ from me, but might get bumped up since I can't seem to stop thinking about it. No music score = unnerving!

JB and I (and I think PfM) looooove L.A. Story. And tviyh, of course I'm not insulted. I cheerfully see movies I am almost certain will be bad, and everyone thinks I'm crazy for it. For example, I saw Ultraviolet this evening, which is so bad it doesn't even deserve its own thread ( D- ). My taste i...

As noted elsewhere in the Movies section, I am a movie whore and will see almost anything (Rob Schnieder "comedies" being one notable exception). Yeah, the preview was awful, and, ultimately, accurately represented the movie. Sometimes they don't. Plus, this was co-written by Steve Martin,...

I can't imagine that we didn't, but the synopsis isn't ringing any bells. Written by Dean Koontz, and Affleck is a sheriff? Sounds can't miss. The Phantoms line, though, is from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and more or less the only funny thing in the movie.

I think you're forgetting about a little something called, ahem...Reindeer Games!!! It's okay. I'm sure that was a perfectly innocent oversight. And he was certainly da bomb in Phantoms!

Anybody? Anybody? It's good. No, really. I love Emma Thompson. I still think Ken Branagh's a schmuck for losing her. And she wrote/stars in this Tim Burton/Roald Dahl-ish gloss on Mary Poppins. It's all very British, very cinematic, a little dark, and lots of fun. And it has that adorable blond kid ...

I am no Tommy Lee Jones fan. I think he's a one-trick pony actor, and he doesn't do anything here to change my mind. But his movie is great. I think this mostly has to do with the script by the Amores Perros guy, but I'll give some credit to Jones's direction also. I like stories about redemption, I...

Running Scared

...is one of the craziest movies I have ever seen. It's like the writer and director had all these bizarre ideas that no one managed to talk them out of. And in this case, it's a good thing. I feel the same way about universally hated Way of the Gun and Rules of Attraction, so your opinion may vary,...
