Re: You Deserve a Raise.. and a Review! (Cost of Living Reviews)
Thanks to Mr Standard Format and his poop-cheap microphone, I now have a strange compulsion to use lo-fi amps, crappy loudspeakers, tape saturation, vacuum tube noise, vinyl crackle, off-center pressings, wow and flutter...and tape hiss. Or at least nice clean digital recreations of those analog ab...

Re: You Deserve a Raise.. and a Review! (Cost of Living Reviews)
Standard Format I love the noisy / gated vocal. Sounds for film. This gating is really neat! Black and white, watching raindrops trace their way down a gray window. VOTE Thanks! I'd initially wanted to go for a funk feel, and somehow ended up with... that ... Standard Format The cheap noise gating ...

Re: Cost of Living
Walking home from work, you stop at a street corner, waiting for traffic to pass. The lights turn red and she struts over. Making an offer, making a proposition. You earn a dollar a day but she's asking a dollar an hour. Do you really want to spend your money that way? Do you really want to go hungr...

Re: Stone guitars
very dense materials conduct sound better, ie. less volume loss string is attached to bridge which is attached to body, and the string vibrations move through all of these hence, a body made from stone will dampen the sound less and thus sustain the note for longer in the string. tone is dependent o...

Re: How to Solo on Guitar - Practical Tips and Tricks
What lunkhead said. The first thing is to know the scale you're going to play the solo over. Make sure you know EVERY fret on the guitar that will be involved, and get comfortable moving between them. Next, play a simple lead line over the chord progression you'll be soloing over, mix it up a bit. A...

Pretty sure you ripped that song off from my band :P Well it sounds right up our alley.... anyway/.. getting somewhere. have a click-track beat and some guitars/bass demoed on a synth, plus vocals done in the middle of the night. should move into pre-production from absolute shit sometime soon :) I'...

Re: Help Make Me Loud - Amp Recommendations?
I was just asking because when we practice, we're in a close environment and we feedback really bad. But on stage we don't. Ha, sorry! I saw another post where (I think it was) you were picking apart someone's grammar. anyway... Another good way to reduce feedback is turning down distortion while u...

Re: At The Hospice (We Keep Them Alive Reviews)
don't like the voice you put on, even if it makes me laugh a little it also makes me cringe. Yeah, that particular voice is a character I came up with named Flappy Gunderson, who I haven't brought out in a SongFight entry since Cryptic Comment. Based on the kind of response he's gotten here and els...

Oh Chello Chello!
Hi, I'm Adam, a guitarist from Melbourne, and have been playing for about six years now. I go to uni and played in a band called Mongolian Discharge Police for a year and a half, though we're wrapping things up because our drummer's going travelling in two weeks. A few solo recordings can be found h...

Re: How to rock?
1. be confident in yourself 2. be confident in your instrument 3. learn your songs. learn them fucking well. learn them until you can play them in your sleep... without looking will suffice. then you can relax onstage. I've found that before I can go nuts, I have to be able to NOT look at my guitar ...

Re: Pedals!
You guys have awesome set-ups! I've got four pedals and a tuner - two distortions (Boss DS-2 and Danelectro T-bone), and Danelectro flanger and delay pedals. They do the trick and over the years I've managed to get a lot of different sounds out of them, but other things would be awesome. I pretty mu...

Re: At The Hospice (We Keep Them Alive Reviews)
Howl Down the Chimney - Vocals are cool, but they sometimes don't hit the mark. Lyrics have a cool theme, though they can be mundane. Instrumentation really works, nice and sparse where it needs to be, and quite full at other times. Is that a theremin? Yes it is! Nice. Production on this one is exc...

Re: Melodyne Direct Note Access
How is this even remotely possible. Do a FFT transform to get a 2-dimensional array of intensity@frequencies over time. Look for where an intensity above a certain threshold exists at the same frequency band for a given period of time, and assume that's a note (you're gonna want some fuzzy matching...

Re: Help Make Me Loud - Amp Recommendations?
The short, truthful answer to that is: Yes I do have band practise.
The grammatically correct way of saying what I meant is: I play only my electric on stage.
However, you could have interpreted my statement in another way, so as to say I used my acoustic during practises! Game, set and match.

Re: Help Make Me Loud - Amp Recommendations?
I have a Made in Korea Fender Acoustic-Electric (DG10CE). Whenever I've plugged it into a bigger amp or PA, it's been a nightmare for getting feedback when using the onboard electronics, so something like that 5 Watt might be excellent. I also have an SX solid-body. Get a soundhole cover . Apparent...

Bomb threat. Wrote the lyrics in about 10 minutes at 5 in the morning... ouch. Might completely overhaul them but that's a new record for me.

Re: Sound check please
Fair enough. I've found that slightly compressing and then normalising individual tracks allows for maximum volume in Audacity, which I use for recording, mixing and mastering. That said I'd love to find a free, fully functional program which whips Audacity's ass but haven't been bothered hunting on...
