Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

If you have audio dropping out every few seconds, make sure that none of the plugins on the track are running in “demo” mode.

This happened to me— I had put Ozone Maximizer on a track and forgot that I needed to reauthorize it on my new computer.

Re: Backup Planning - what's your scheme?

Just found a thing that I thought would be supported by everything but seems to be supported by almost none of the things I currently own: Networked drives. Me: "I should put this drive on the network to Time Machine rather than having to hook it up to my laptop constantly" Me: "I can probably just ...

even in the years I wasn't participating under a vast assortment of monikers, it was always comforting knowing songfight still existed. I hope this place never goes away!

Backup Planning - what's your scheme?

I recently had a minor loss of data as part of moving to a new laptop. I can tell you the whole story if you want, but bottom line is it caused me to try to figure out some new arrangement for backing things up. Here's where I stand: I have a 10TB Degoo account I got some time ago. I'm backing it al...

Re: Cooking

It’s chili time! Let me share my wife’s grandfather’s idiot-proof firehouse chili recipe, slightly modified by me with some options: 1 can each (do not drain, dump in liquid and all): Light red kidney beans Dark red kidney beans Black beans Pinto beans “Chili” beans (pinto beans in a chili sauce) Ro...

Who else is using their new music equipment in this week's fight? Cause I sure am.
My Christmas gift was Lego so I have spent the week playing with Lego instead of writing a song. :P

Re: Happy holidays and 2020!

I have one of those American pedals, always on, at the end of my chain. It’s got great tone and my Casino’s P90 pickups light it up with grit and feedback. The Level lets me dial in my tone no matter what rig I have to use at the tiny venues we play.

Re: Happy holidays and 2020!

Happy holidays and the new year can’t get here fast enough for me. Went to my in-laws for a week over Christmas. Lost a credit card, broke my Kindle, and I caught my son’s Hand Foot and Mouth disease which gave me a high fever just in time for the plane ride home. Oh, and my wife caught a horrific c...

F*** You, Motherf***er (It's Christmas)

In 2002 I answered a non-songfight song challenge to write a song called "Fuck You, Motherfucker". I think only myself and Brick Pig made songs-- mine happened to be a Christmas song. In 2009, Brad Sucks covered the song. Every year he reposts it, in hopes of creating a timeless viral classic. It's ...

Re: The password is _____

The Password Is by JB NOTE: If it's interesting to you at all, I used a lyric generator to create the basic idea of these lyrics. I entered keywords that were kind of in the password vein, then I edited the result to be a little more relevant to the idea of passwords as a metaphor. Or something. Thi...

Re: SoundCloud limiting free accounts to _15 tracks_!!

For me, SoundCloud is a place that * will host and stream tracks in a bulletproof way for free * makes it easy for me to upload tracks quickly * people are familiar with, so they know what to expect-- the song I'm trying to make them listen to is enough of an unknown already I don't find their organ...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

One thing that I have't seen mentioned in this thread: artists prior to the invention of pitch correction often corrected their pitch and other errors without re-performing the whole thing. The art of "punching in" a small piece of audio into the middle of a take in order to correct a flaw probably ...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

First Argument In Favor: Let's say you have a long note and you go slightly out of tune the longer you hold it. Like how Bill Withers goes a little flat as the note goes on in "Lovely Day". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEeaS6fuUoA I'd say that particular Bill Withers performance is really sweet,...

Meanwhile, we are too serious about our songwriting to NOT write songs in a hurry for random titles.
