Re: Tasting the (The Sugary Goo Inside reviews)

saw this story and it reminded me of Vom Vorton's track: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/12/31/679832549/when-too-cute-is-too-much-the-brain-can-get-aggressive the article says that this cute aggression was "first described in 2015" but I remember this concept being in Punch-Drunk Lo...

Re: Very minor link (non) issue

I had them linked a particular way because ppl on the boards asked for it. But I can no longer remember what that way was. So put them however you want them. :)

On 1/19/2019 the Women's March happens again.

If you want to come to DC for this, let me know.

You can march with us, if you'd like to, and I'll help you find some place to stay.

Re: WTF Are The Modes?!

I have tried the whole "it's just an X scale but starting on note Y" thing. That has really not sunk into my mind. I think I am going try instead the path of "It's a major scale but with a flat/sharp X and a flat/sharp Y etc." :/ In my experience, you just have to memorize them. For singing it's fi...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

In school we learned modes in terms of the solfeggio syllables. That's "do re mi fa sol la ti do". Each syllable has a relationship to the next. For example, between do and re is a whole step and between mi and fa is a half step. (ti and do are a half step apart). If you start on middle C, you can s...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

Melodyne recently made using it in Logic a LOT easier. It's still a tad awkward (it doesn't just work, you have to push a button to make all the notes for a track appear in its interface). But it's a lot better than previously-- you had to basically let Melodyne copy sections of tracks to work on th...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

I don't use the pitch correction plugin, though. It doesn't work well unless I sing everything really flat with no inflection. Otherwise it's waaaaay too flippy. Flexpitch and Melodyne are different, and let you tweak individual notes. I'll also use them to line up two tracks more perfectly, to get ...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

In addition to Logic's flex pitch tool, I have a copy of Melodyne, which is the gold standard for this kind of thing. It also works well. A good song is a good song, even if you modify the performance in post. It depends on what your appetite for authenticity is, measured against the skill of the mi...

I don't disagree about getting the money, but the money *is* there-- the streaming services may not be profitable but they sure do have revenue. Total music industry revenue in 2016 is like $7B. https://www.recode.net/2018/2/28/17064460/spotify-ipo-charts-music-streaming-daniel-ek Kinda feels like t...

Re: SongCoin Idea

Getting paid would be great. Maybe that's it. Essentially a mechanism for creating, selling, and accounting for shares in a song. When you create the song, you own all the shares, and then you sell them off and put it all into the ledger system And anything that's done with the song that makes money...

Re: SongCoin Idea

Yeah I don't really care about blockchain necessarily-- I think the rush to apply it to everything is foolish. But as a thought experiment about how to value and support songwriting, or even as an art experiment about how to enforce manufactured scarcity in a digital good, it's interesting to think ...

Re: SongCoin Idea

I have no idea how to get it started. More like spitballing the concept. Oooh or what about if you use blockchain to say that you can only listen to a certain song a certain number of times. Make listening to “A Day In the Life” a finite resource. I know that would freak people out. But music is too...

SongCoin Idea

I was listening to a podcast this morning, because I am one of those people. Anyway, it was about money and had a segment about cryptocurrencies. Specifically there's an artist who minted a currency and then backed it up with his art... so the whole thing is basically an art piece. https://www.forbe...
