Re: Song Fight! Live 2018: Beers & Beards & Bears

I haven't posted in years but I am really excited to see everyone in Denver! It's such a bummer for the folks who can't make it. Honestly, you are all missed. I am really happy to see everyone that is coming, and commend you for making it happen. If anyone is on the fence and needs encouragement - l...

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round

Yes, I sang it that way on purpose.
That is my singing style.
I believe one might consider it a " grace note " in the jazzy/bluesy world.
Also, I have never heard of that other artist you mentioned, so any similarity was totally a coincidence.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Three

Reviews...The songs styles were so all over the place this week, and I loved it! Disclaimer: These reviews do not represent Merisan as a whole. Balance Lost: Well produced, the intro is lovely. I am drawn into the bass line during the interludes. The overall melody is catchy enough. Listened a few t...

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Three

At Ray- "Jockey Full of Bourbon" is a fabulous song, and any comparison to Tom Waits is a welcome compliment, So Thanks! I can see how the phrasing and structure are comparable, but the genre (jazzy-speak-easy/tango-ish) itself is pretty formulaic. It seems to me that any actual similariti...

I think it's time for another ROLL CALL!!! Also, I don't seem to see a gear thread either. It's just 6 weeks away folks, where's the SFL buzzzzzz? Sam (Lunkhead) and myself ( If you don't know who I am, I am the other half of Merisan, member of BSS, Tiny Robots, and for you old-timers, Loyalty Day) ...

Re: Nur Ein VI: Round Four

In regard to Merisan's speculative use of cacophony: To me, ones mans impression of a harmonic symphony could be to another mans ear, a loud and unpleasant mess. Given my own taste and disposition, I did feel like we managed to make a noisy and discordant racket. Smashing cymbals a little out...

Jan K said: Merisan: "You did work the title in, but it feels like a bit of an afterthought." I disagree. I make reference to colors, shades and hues throughout the entire song. I am alluding that while youth and memories fade, that my love will not. I thought it was pretty spelled out, bu...

Sam and I used it when we went to Italy, and we saved loads of money. Maybe some folks might want to stay in an apartment instead of a hotel for an extended weekend?

I vote for June!!! The weather is better in NYC, and also I can't take the time off in August either. Like Ken, I work for UC Berkeley, and all the students come back in August. PLUS Ken, Fluffy, and Glenn Case all celebrate their birthdays on 6/14!!! We should most def have some sort fo SFL event o...

OK, I am just going to dive into the reviews. I am at work, so I cant listen too clearly to the lyrical content. These reviews are based more on first listen vibe , music , and over-all performance. I'll leave it it the judges to fuss about the acrostics and such. Berkeley Social Scene: This ...

Re: Nur Ein V: Round 3

Glenny said "When i hear Joga, it sends me through time", but that even though more true for me does not sound anywhere near as good as "all is full of love". It sounds like Yoga, which would be all too confusing. ...and he is correct! Since my lyrics are totally autobiographical...

Re: Nur Ein! V - Round 1

An octave riff does not a My Sharona make. But apparently 11 notes from the melody of Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree a Downunder makes. that's like saying all songs with flute sound like Jethro Tull if there are beards involved they do. Great, now I have a mash up of that Gum Tree song with Aq...
