Re: A parade, or a marathon?! (A Grand Parade reviews)
ps please someone submit 7 more... I think I can come up with another one within the next day or two. I already have a sketch for the chorus. We're so close! Can we find six more? I just dropped some fresh lyrics in Ye Olde Lyric Marte. I also have music, so I'll try to knock together a lo-fi recor...

A Grand Parade Main Street's looking pretty rough The five and dime's all boarded up The shoe stores and the hardware stores are gone The old hotel caught fire And destroyed a city block The barber pole has got a hole Where someone threw a rock No one's been here for a week The place is looking pret...

Heine's song ends abruptly. (I think the song starts around 26:00.) Is it just my system?fluffy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:02 pmYou can also listen to them all in submission order via the listening party stream recording, at least for the entries which got in before that wrapped up.

A Grand Parade – The Chebuctones Words by James Owens Music by Ryan Reed Well I’ve been renovicted for a fancy B&B I can’t afford the rent on what has trickled down to me There’s no place left for honest folk whose work is poorly paid And so you’ll find us pitching tents down on the Grand Parade...

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
I'm still on track to play all 100+ songs on Monday night. Expect a long listening party. To me, the alarming thing about this post is Tommy's confidence that the songs will be posted before 5pmPDT/8pmEDT Monday. The FightMaster's lack of response to that comment feels like tacit validation. I gues...

Re: A Grand Parade
You’re gonna find my band in the Grand Parade The Grand Parade began to march two dozen years ago To find the vanguard that’s how far ahead you have to go Some bands have been there from the start and some joined near the end But everybody has a part, and all the bands are friends Welcome to a grand...

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
As if on cue, the CBC today posted a story about the Grand Parade -- just in time for the deadline! This is what my second song is about. I was going to record clean vocals this morning, but there's a howling wind rattling the house.

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
I have one song recorded, just finalizing the mix. I'm working on another one, but with a collaborator who's come down with the flu. The second one (which has better lyrics) is not likely to be done by the nominal deadline. With luck I'll be able to knock it into shape before the songs are posted.

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
I now have complete lyrics for two songs. The second one is very Haligonian; I'll see if I can round up some local musicians. Excellent title as far as I'm concerned!

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
What do people think of posting early versions of lyrics and encouraging lyric burglary to get more songs? I ask because I have some "meta" lyrics I'd be willing to post. I did get some heat for being too "meta" in one fight, but I can't help how my brain works. One set of lyrics...

Re: I set my chair by the road to watch (A Grand Parade prefight)
I'm breaking one of the unwritten SF rules by writing about Song Fight. I'm trying to keep it obtuse. Hopefully I don't quit on it. Doing my part for 1K! Is that an unwritten rule? I never knew. I once wrote about Song Fight! in "Made to be Played." For this fight, I was planning to do it...

It's still Pi Day in the Americas, but here in the Maritimes, the window is closing fast. For the rest of the planet, it's already the 15th. It's beginning to feel like something has gone wrong. I have faith you're working on it!

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
James Owens : This is fun, kinda gives me Margaritaville vibes. The lyrics are pretty generic—wish there was a bit more of a unique or strange something to grab onto in the music or the lyrics. My husband loves Seasons in the Sun and I find it so horribly cheesy. But even with the hint I’m not quit...

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
With the fight almost over, and assuming anyone actually cares, I'll identify my Optional Challenge snippet as the melody for "We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun" from Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun." I didn't realize until I looked into it that the song was orig...

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
Agent chaos has a sample from the spin doctors “two princes”. I imagine it would be obvious during the chorus if you slowed the whole thing down. And I was hearing references to "Love Shack" by the B-52s! I don't think I even know "Two Princes". [edit -- Oh, that song!] I didn't...

Sorry for not adding a note about the optional challenge to the lyrics—I am too online, I guess, and thought it would be obvious :D Oh! -- different wavelengths. I was thinking entirely in terms of musical phrases. It never even occurred to me that the "small recognizable bit" could invol...

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
Add : Bright, energetic, staccato music, with some wandering chord sequences between the vocal breaks. The singing, or rather declaiming, manages to sound happy and snarky at the same time. I have no idea what the lyrics are about. Solid performance and recording. Optional challenge? Nothing detect...
