Re: United We Stand (Crack in the Wall Reviews)

add - Your voice really sells this. I've been watching a lot of "What Makes This Song Great" by Rick Beato on Youtube and your note choices at the end of the verse highlights something common to the great songs of our times - interesting intervals being employed to draw people in. Have to...

Re: United We Stand (Crack in the Wall Reviews)

@ Pigfarmer Jr Definitely REALLY late now in the process, but hey, why not? @ Lunkhead I've submitted a song very late in the cycle. If it can be posted as a non-voting option on the front page, that would be awesome. If not, thanks anyway for hosting everything and being as accommodating as you are.

Well, I'm totally late - but I finally recorded a vocal, so...there's that. Will do reviews later; just finishing has been an exhausting process.

Hey Mostess, you still doing the album? This IS kind of my thing, so...while I'm rather busy this summer with recording our band's second album, I can certainly provide guidance on any number of issues and potentially a solo.

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

Forgot one:

jast - I LOVE that rhythm you start the song with. Pulled me right in. I wanted a bit more of a hi-fi sound here. The second vocal is an excellent touch. I'd love to hear this with an actual bass guitar, though. Needs a bit more variation with the drums to give it some sizzle.

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

Slickitude - Punkish with a rippin' solo. In and out with no fuss. NICE. Real drums or no? Regardless, has a very raw feel to it that works for the track. Digging the background vocals. Compositionally, it doesn't entirely move me but what you've done here, you've done well. Pigfarmer, Jr. - I used...

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

Pay attention to any constructive criticism, and pay attention to compliments :) TRUTH. I should have prefaced my remarks as such. Thank you all for listening and providing criticism/compliments. It does mean a lot to me to hear something other than "it had a beat, I could dance to it" or...

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

A disturbing number of you have made the "I-don't-get-the- Black-Days -connection-in-your song" remark (or variations thereon). Did you try reading the comment I posted on this subject in this very thread? I devoted 319 words to the topic. Too much to ask in light of having an instrumental...

Re: No sunlight in sight (Black Days reviews)

Whoa. Lots of solid entries here. A few (or more) words of explanation, as I've submitted an instrumental (and those always seem to bring out accusations): Superunknown was a personal favorite of mine - lots of listening time as a high-schooler. I only like half of the songs on there...but since the...

Re: Listen Through The Static For Your (Cassini Reviews)

Full Disclosure: I, too, have a genre bias...towards heavy guitars and drums. Since none of the tracks (barring mine and Huygens') included this, my reviews will be colored by these things. With that out of the way... Johnny Cashpoint - I like that synth, just feel like it needs a bit of 'verb on it...

Re: My caffeine intake, however, is not (That's Enough Revie

MG, I think the only reason your song feels a little "long" is because it's missing a bitchin' guitar solo during the breakdown (yes, I realize this might step on the gorgeous/perfect piano stuff). Of course, The length is okay to me because I grew up with Metallica's "...And Justice ...

Re: Occupies the Place of a Review Thread (Occupy reviews)

I've gotta say, when I heard PiGPEN's song the person who immediately came to mind was Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder. Through that lens, it was friggin' hilarious. It's a shame others don't get the joke. I thought the over-the-top nature of it conveyed everything perfectly (and obviously). To eac...

Re: Occupies the Place of a Review Thread (Occupy reviews)

Dealin Doug (etc.) - Horns and fuzz bass preceded by a movie trailer? Epic. Sounds like you've got the rhythm guitar going straight up the middle - need to do a second take and then hard pan them. Add a little more 'verb to the guits and the horns. Drums kind of sound like "Lump" - which i...

King Arthur - Music and production are tight but you need to have a different singer on there. Somebody who has that natural soul feel to their voice: Seal comes to mind.* Melodies and lyrics A.O.K. Not my genre, but it's very well done. [*I'm sure you've got him on speed dial] MC Charlie Oh - A few...

Re: Occupies the Place of a Review Thread (Occupy reviews)

Reviews so far (more later): Al Gore Band - The percussion sounds like the recording click that I always turn off (hey, I've got drum loops for that). It's rather distracting, to be honest. At one point, it seems like you mix it back a little -which is great until it comes back up again. The whole s...

Re: Occupies the Place of a Review Thread (Occupy reviews)

And certainly, feel free to do cover art... I've been trying to have something turned in by the fight deadline because sometimes that gets the new songs and the new titles posted right away, but I am happy to have other people do the cover art any time! This was my sole purpose for submitting - I h...
