Re: His Last Few Days

His Last Few Days by bgm At the start his dreams were killed Each day his hopes went unfulfilled Long, hurtful years of ache and grief The crying nights with no relief With each and every painful move He'd hoped someday things might improve And longed for just one happy day But it was not to be tha...

Re: ...and then what? (prefight)

Thought I'd try writing some lyrics first, before coming up with the music, which I pretty much never do. Got some verses written and started trying to come up with some chords...a few minutes into a promising chord structure I realized that it was "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves." So yeah, b...

Re: millions of nickels (If I Had One Reviews)

I assume the buttons give you some sort of accompaniment type thing depending on what note you play lower on the keyboard. Exactly. The lower keyboard is the bass. The "SINGLE FINGERED CHORD" button just plays a major chord when you hold down a key on that lower keyboard, or the "FIN...

Re: millions of nickels (If I Had One Reviews)

Thanks for the reviews! I'm a sucker for cheesy synth and blatantly fake drums, and there are certainly those here, and the melody is pop at its sweetest. To me this feels like if Fountains of Wayne got trapped inside a Casio. it sounds like an auto song off my old casio keyboard The Casio comments ...

Re: millions of nickels (If I Had One Reviews)

Bad Boys at Bat Mitzvahs: Is that a Honeymooners sample? Kinda sounds like Norton. It's a great groove, for sure. Seems like not enough happens though. I do like the sad growl at the end. Shamanizer: Interesting. I'd pan the kinda flangey guitar line that's in the middle off-center a bit so your vo...

Re: millions of nickels (If I Had One Reviews)

...what if the voting system would be changed like voting would be possible only by entering a review for each participant (not just checking). This would also make it harder to enter illegitimate votes :) The now-defunct garageband.com did this. The problem with that scenario is that then people j...

Guilty as charged.
Going to force myself to make time this round.
Hopefully that won't come back and bite me in the ass.

Re: Failure to ID body (beaten man reviews)

Thanks for the kind words guys. The comments are well taken regarding low-end and mixing; I bought some Yamaha HS50m's at Christmas and I still haven't re-calibrated my ears to mix with them. I'm finding it kind of frustrating and have yet to be happy with a mix since. Currently doing a lot of readi...

Re: Don't Bore Us With Your Boron Rodviews. (Boron Rod Reviews)

I didn't read any reviews before posting this, trying to have fresh ears and be as unbiased as possible. Here goes. Berkely Social Scene : I'm liking the combination of geeky dude rock with a female vocalist. The sudden change into a Rush song for the choruses made me smile. Really loving the bass t...

Re: Spare the Rod...(Boron pre-fight)

In under the wire. Didn't think it was going to happen. I was just rudely sick this week and it is just obscenely fucking cold in Toronto. Started writing something this afternoon while waiting for the Ikea delivery truck to bring our bedroom wall unit. Then later to the basement, in which I record ...

Re: You gotta do the cooking by the book (Cakes Reviews)

Thanks for all the great comments, guys, I really appreciate it. And the votes. The various "alternative guy" "90's-sounding" references made me chuckle; I'd totally not heard it that way. The points about mixing are well-taken also; mixing/mastering is my least favourite part of...

Re: You gotta do the cooking by the book (Cakes Reviews)

This is my first round and I'm not entirely sure of the proper protocol. I've been sort of torn about reviewing or not...on the one hand nobody knows who the hell I am so it seems kind of arrogant or presumptuous of me to come in and start commenting on people's stuff; on the other hand I don't want...

It's actually my initials, but it seems to be used as short for "background music" quite a bit.
Often in video game speak, but also on blogs and forums and stuff, as in:

mood: sulky
bgm: Kraftwerk

which I kind of like.

Long Time Listener, First Time Caller

Been lurking on and off for years. Finally decided to get off my ass and actually post something. I almost did the "After Hours" one a while ago; got half a song written and then lazed out the day before. Hoping to being a bit more productive in the future, recording songs in my dark and t...
