Re: It's where you meet! (Meeting Street prefight)
I had an idea and ran with it, I think I'm too close to it to know if it's a good idea or not. For me the important part is that I finished and had the guts to hit 'send'. Mr. Jerkatorium had a lot of other stuff on his plate this month, so I went it alone this time around.

Re: As long as it's not lame (Be What You Want prefight)
We could have probably used the extra time to come up with a chord progression that, you know, progresses, but didn't. I think we're pretty stiff competition in the race to the bottom.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Great song jb. Love, love, love the whistling solo. Curious what your shibboleth is, l'm imagining you shouting 'lollapalooza' and hoping that you won't get shot. The 'I want you to be free' almost doesn't fit, and feels a bit uncomfortable. Your vocals are very sweet sounding, especially at the end...

Re: As long as it's not lame (Be What You Want prefight)
So did anyone use this extra time to rework their original submission, or submit a song they wouldn't have otherwise?

Re: It's Not Over Until the Fat Lady (It's Not Over) Reviews
I've listened to it a few more times since I wrote my initial review. Jeff Travis Henderson turns in the best vocal performance, one of the best sounding songs, and a pretty solid lyrical effort. Having said that he has some pretty stiff competition this time around. Skadaddle has that killer guitar...

Re: 6/13/15 Joni Mitchell
For me it's Woodstock. It's spooky, stark, beautiful and a legit counterculture anthem. She pushes her voice to the point of straining at few points, which adds to its power. Chills.

Re: 6/12/15 Sonic Youth
Like many, Goo is the first Sonic Youth album I really got into, and it's really hard to pick favorites from it, since it's all so, so good. Many of my favorite Sonic Youth tracks seem to be written and sung by Lee Ranaldo, he's like Sonic Youth's Tobin Sprout. It's really hard to choose, but I'm go...

Re: As long as it's not lame (Be What You Want prefight)
Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that this time around. I'm likely going to be submitting something that could charitably described as avant-garde.johndisk0 wrote:YECH! My song sucks soooo bad. I don't think I can submit this...

I think my favorite song of hers is the version of Proud Mary she sings with Ike. I like the rough part the best. With a honorable mention going to Private Dancer which I like to sing at Karaoke.

This time my plan is to not vote for what I consider the top 3 songs, but to just vote for every song I like enough to listen to more than a few times. I may be voting for a record number of songs this time around as there are a lot of good entries in this fight. Berkeley Social Scene The way the &q...

Anybody made any progress on this song yet? I've had some ideas, but I wouldn't necessarily call them good ideas. One more day after today to get it together.

The first Nick Cave song that made me sit up and pay attention was The Mercy Seat. His performance of From Her to Eternity in Wings of Desire is also great.

I am not a lawyer, and I honestly don't know shit about shit, but I think that kind of non-sampled musical quotation is covered under the Fair Use doctrine and should be fine.

Nice, The Magnificent Seven is a great choice, shows how easily they could play different styles of music but still make it their own. That bass line is great, and I can sorta hear how they were influenced by the Rapper's Delight.

I remember when I first got London Calling in High School, I didn't understand it at all. What the fuck is this reggae bullshit!? I thought this was supposed to be punk!? The title track was really the only one I liked. Disgusted I put it away and didn't really start listening to it again until coll...

I think Photograph is probably their best song, but I've always been partial to Action! Not Words . Ah, 1983, 8th grade, you could not escape Pyromania here in the United States, it was everywhere, radio, MTV, and on my cassette boombox. Def Leppard patches were sewn on to jean jackets all across th...

Townes Van Zandt
Some brilliant songwriting and G&G music here. I don't know how I've managed to live over 40 years on this planet and not heard this guy until now, it never ceases to amaze me how clueless I am.
