Re: You Call That a Moment? (Reviews)

Hello, friends. I thought this was a pretty strong week! Everyone did a great job. I'm still unsure as to who I'll be voting for, but I figured I'd parcel out a few comments up front. Anyway, you probably already know your song's strengths and weaknesses so I won't mention them unless I feel particu...

Re: Rest is Peace (Peace is Rest reviews)

wow, that's awesome! are you following a schematic for any synth in particular? is it CV or MIDI? Well, the beauty of modular DIY is that you can mix and match 'til your heart's content. I can use EMS oscillators, Arp waveshapers, a Steiner-Parker filter and moog style envelope generators. So... pr...

Re: Rest is Peace (Peace is Rest reviews)

cock - i’ve got to admit, after reading about your homebrew synth, i was most excited to hear this tune. can you tell us more about the synth? maybe some pics? Certainly. When this week's title came up I took stock of what I'd completed. And I was like, whoah, I've actually completed enough to have...

Re: What's Rest, then? Peace Pre-fight

Well, Ujn dodged illness and we made it in this week. Since we got the chthonic guitar noise out of our system last week, I'm happy to report we're back on our native soil -- synthpop. It'll be the first track I've used my home built modular synthesizer on, too -- so I'm pretty excited. With the exc...

Re: Make sure your seat backs and tray tables... (Hard Landing)

Aside from the added high-hat on the chorus, what's so remarkable? Everyone seems to be commenting on them. I ask because I'm very careful to approximate what a real person can do with the drums. It might be a really good drummer, but I swear there's only one left-hand, right-hand and foot hit per ...

Hello, friends. My name is R. Mosquito, and this week I am one half of The Chthonic Youth. We've been on sabbatical. I am fairly surprised that we were the only ones copping Milton this week. Chekhov. Your rhymes are dope. Your delivery is not. It sounds like you're sitting in front of the computer ...

We did indeed squeak in with a short surf ditty. But as Ujn pointed out, more exciting is our special guest star -- the venerable Mike Lamb (Kasper, etc.) on bass!

Wheeee!!!!

My GOM request (Jay Reatard's Night of Broken Glass) as interpreted by Caravan Ray is FANTASTIC!! Better than I possibly could have imagined. Thanks, CR -- and good job, wow!

I also greatly enjoyed Tep's entry, but I haven't worked through all of them yet.

Happy kittens go to the Elephant Choir , Panna Cotta Army , and Tep for the sweet awesome artwork. Erin & Tash would have gotten a kitten had you not lost your voice. Instead you get a degu. So does Signboy (but mello on the melodyne and turn the drums up!). I'm glad Ice was there there to do th...

Quite in. It's been a couple years since I last GOM'd, and I've been thinkin' all year how I've got to do it this year. My choices are below. Please have Santa email me and let me get you high-res versions if you're lucky enough to be doing one of the songs below. I picked fairly rockist stuff for a...

You know, when thinking about this title in the car on the way home one of the first things that sprung to mind was boxing.

So: given the discussion that has transpired elsewhere on these boards, I hope to hear a number of tracks that centrally feature backyard wrestling, okay?

Cock thanks you all for your support. I think we expected it to be positively received, but not so overwhelmingly -- we're glad people liked it. I apologize for the slackjob on reviews -- I'm going to try to double back in coming days. Particular standouts for me were Jon's tune and The Weakest Suit...

Jon Eric & Friends ... Whoever suggested the keyboard deserves a cookie. That would be Ujn. He mentioned that it needed some honky-tonk piano, and I mentioned that I'd been considering the idea myself. He was a lot more enthusiastic about it than I was, though, so I went ahead and recorded it. ...

Jan's advice is the best, of course.

Barring that, autotune is a wonderful thing. It won't help you with the emotional impact of your delivery. But at least you'll hit the right notes. :)
