Re: Bent Straight

-Verse why have you left me here? why are you so far away? I call out day and night but it seems you've lost your voice or words to say And I'm beginning to question The path that brought me here But while others might run A worm like me finds refuge looking down the gun -Chorus Everyday I bend and ...

Re: Near enough to perfect... (Bent Straight reviews)

Dang I thought my vocals were too hot. They definitely seem so on everything I listened with, including my phone’s speaker. But it seems I need to be more careful yet.

Re: Not crooked anymore (Bent Straight prefight)

This is my first legit Song Fight entry in approximately 8 years. It's a good thing this isn't Nur Ein, because I'm 2 days late.

Re: Nur Ein XV

I personally don't have any more time on my hands than I did before. If anything it feels like I have less somehow. The idea of piling on the stress of Nur Ein feels pretty terrifying to me right now. But I'd happily listen in. It's amazing how much great music comes out of that crucible. I'd...

Lol it logged me out when I hit “reply”.

I’m using iOS Safari ... extensions... just some limited adblocking that iOS allows. (1Blocker)

Re: Deals On Gear and Software

FXpansion now has all the BFD3 expansions on sale for 50% off. Might be poor timing if you are being hit economically - might be great timing if you have a bunch of time at home. https://www.fxpansion.com/products/bfdx/bfdexpansions/ I have Horsepower, Jazz&funk, Marching Drums, Sleishman, and M...

Re: Happy holidays and 2020!

Is that the accent series? That looks JUST like my drum set but a smaller version! It’s just ”Ludwig Jr” though interestingly the URL I pasted has “accent jr” in it. I got it because he likes banging on my disassembled blue Vistalite kit. The build quality is surprisingly good (esp the hardware). T...

Re: Happy holidays and 2020!

We did our Christmas tradition practice take this year before the kid starts remembering stuff. Figured out traditions, protocols, in-law visits, etc. It turns out that celebrating St. Nick’s (on the 6th) as a mini-pre-Christmas is regional. I may have jumped the gun on my excitement about him being...

What’s your perceived advantages to soundcloud? The nice UI?
I’m wondering if I could just enhance the Nur Ein code for songfighters here.

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

ReaTune. So if you copy or move the item, any time based FX parameters come with it. Whereas if the ReaTune were on the track, you’d have to re-draw the tuning lines. If I tune with ReaTune and then have to edit (move vocal) I just print/render the track and import the new tuned vocal. You’re descr...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

Oh weird. I would think the formant feature goes with polyphonic capabilities. But what do I even know? I like how in this video he says “the most common use is to change gender of the vocals”. Well, if “Weird Al” is a gender, then yes, I suppose so. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nPAINeIGxMc W/r/t M...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

AFAIK the only feature the Melodyne has that other apps don't is the polyphonic auto-tuning support, which isn't relevant for vocals. Do other products do pitch slope, vibrato, and formant? Serious question. Watch Melodyne’s tutorial videos - they’re kind of amazing. They pick up the harmonic under...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

Why ReaPitch and not ReaTune? I'm not sure I understand why the timing gets screwed up either (you mean just if you're moving an item around?) Oops. That’s what I meant. ReaTune. Yeah, if you place the FX on the item, it uses the timebase of the item and not the track. It’s a lesser known reaper fe...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

I hate hate hate modern Glee-like vocals that take out all the timbre. At the same time, I don’t like pitchy singing. Tuning is perfectly fine if you aren’t overdoing it... put the vox mostly on pitch but don’t “iron out” all the “wrinkles” in Melodyne. Aim for clean takes that can be pitch manipula...

How can we prepare our children to live in the Real World (tm) if we teach them that everything is always fair and logical? What next, will we remove silent vowels from English because they're too difficult?

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

I should also note that I've only done probably 3 or 4 input channels @ 24bit/48k simultaneously, and maybe two submixes, if even, in a setting where I don't care about latency. So, YMMV there. Overall I'm pretty pleased given how flakey audio interfaces tend(ed?) to be. Not sure if that's a side-ef...

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

Thanks. Do you happen to know if it supports hardware submixes? Yes. Each of the outputs lets you select its routing settings, and one of them is 'custom mix' where you can set all the levels to get hardware monitoring and whatnot. I dabble in it but I haven't gotten into the weeds. Eg: I'll use on...

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

I, too, have noticed a dearth of options in this product segment. It seems everyone wants to make smaller units that hook up to iPhones. I had to upgrade from my M-Audio because computers don't have firewire anymore. My undocumented research in 2017 led me to the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 . I bought ...

Re: the $100 question

Aside from “learning in person is always better”... If you can get an expert to explain and demonstrate, in real-time, some sonic nuances and how to impact them, and why they’re important, then this is well worth it. Training your ears is difficult to do without that kind of help. If you can gain th...
