Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
Agent chaos has a sample from the spin doctors “two princes”. I imagine it would be obvious during the chorus if you slowed the whole thing down. And I was hearing references to "Love Shack" by the B-52s! I don't think I even know "Two Princes". [edit -- Oh, that song!] I didn't...

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
Sorry for not adding a note about the optional challenge to the lyrics—I am too online, I guess, and thought it would be obvious :D Oh! -- different wavelengths. I was thinking entirely in terms of musical phrases. It never even occurred to me that the "small recognizable bit" could invol...

Re: I put a spell on you... (Love Magic reviews)
Add : Bright, energetic, staccato music, with some wandering chord sequences between the vocal breaks. The singing, or rather declaiming, manages to sound happy and snarky at the same time. I have no idea what the lyrics are about. Solid performance and recording. Optional challenge? Nothing detect...

in the interest of keeping myself honest and making sure I don't try to recycle any part of this in the next fight I actually manage to be in, I am revealing what I had recorded at the moment when I gave up trying to get something in before they post the songs. https://jeff-robertson.com/flvxx/sf/f...

Re: Love Magic
It takes a little love magic to make things come true When you have a dream, it looks so fine You tell yourself, I'm gonna make it mine But you must love it with all your heart Then the magic, the love magic has a place to start Though the sun goes down, it won't be long 'Til it's up again and shini...

Re: I don't just _like_ magic, I (Love Magic prefight)
I'm in with a very short bit of calypso. The melody incorporates two bars of a song I hate, a very well-known one with a remarkable provenance. The optional challenge says it has to be a "recognizable bit," and the tune fragment is long enough and distinct enough to be readily recognizable...

Re: I don't just _like_ magic, I (Love Magic prefight)
I'll be in for the optional challenge, but I'm not saying which hated song I've stolen a small recognizable bit from. It's a well-known loathsome tune, so it'll be fun to see if anybody spots it.

Re: Your Undoing
I missed the fight "9-11 Was an Inside Job." There were some great lyrics. Whatever actually happened that day, Bush used it as an excuse. I think a lot of people understood that, but they were totallly OK with the excuse.

Your Undoing
These lyrics came a little too late for the recent fight by the same name. They took shape as a response to a comment on my blog, and they may yet end up as a blog post. They may be tough to set to music, but the refrain has possibilities. -------- YOUR UNDOING The US is not broke, at least not quite...

Re: The internal struggle is real (Man Vs. Beast reviews)
I almost didn't bother reviewing this fight, since no one but me could be arsed to review the last one (just seven songs, people!), and I felt put out. I even considered the strategy of reviewing only people who had either reviewed the previous fight, or weren't in it. But that probably wouldn't wor...

Man Vs. Beast
We used to have a problem With a product imperfection There were gremlins in the works There were ghosts in the machine We couldn’t get a purchase On the lower-level modules They seemed to be corrupted And we couldn’t get them clean And then we heard the story Of Man vs. Beast And it gave us new dir...

Re: Help me name my new cocktail (Blood And Fire reviews)
Basal Bark Band : Apparently mixed down from individual tracks, this song nevertheless has an extemporaneous quality, with its overdriven, off-the-cuff, seemingly impaired vocals ("Bud and Flyer"), disorienting guitar pattern, random swoopy siren synths, and cut-off beginning and end. The...

Re: The eternal battle of (Man Vs. Beast prefight)
I've written some lyrics that I think need to be put to music by an AI. I have no idea how to do this, and no interest in learning. I'll try to write my own music. However, if anyone wants to consider putting them to AI, I'd love to hear the result. Just PM me and and I'll pass them along.

Blood and Fire

Re: A song of a ballad of a tale of (Blood and Fire prefight)
I've written a disturbing little lyric and knocked off a quick G&G sort of tune, so I hope to be in for this fight.

Re: Why go to sleep only to (Wake Up Again reviews)
[ James Owens : Has a loose live feel to it, at times I feel like I'm swimming in it, and I'm trying to grab on to parts of the rhythm section as they pass by ignoring the grid below. The wake up / rise up section is great, I especially love the electric organ there. It'd be so much better if the b...

Re: Why go to sleep only to (Wake Up Again reviews)
Is that fuzz bass, or just an overworked amp? It's a clean electric guitar (not bass) recorded direct into the interface, pitch shifted down an octave, and then run through an amp simulation plugin that is set for some overdrive. So, kind of both and neither. For a while I had a vintage Acoustic 12...

Re: Why go to sleep only to (Wake Up Again reviews)
TRIGGER ALERT: Not all of these reviews are kind, but they are all well-meant. Add : A gentle song with a pleasant composition, and an earnest message about waking up to what truly matters, delivered with the help of an old, crackling voice recording. The sincerity of the message is well-matched to ...
