Re: Nur Ein IX - The New Ugly

The New Ugly by Ross Durand (y en Espanol por Carlo Bruno) Well you open up your mouth and your brain falls out And we all get to hear what you’ve been thinking about And we don’t like it - not at all And then you say that this country’s free So you can say what you want to, but so can we And this ...

Re: Nur Ein! IX Round 4

Email sent - I believe I am in Nur Ein!!!! EDIT: Sampled bass and snare drums, banged guitar case, a random sampling of coffee cups-a beer bottle-and a mandolin tailpiece cover that were sitting on a random shelf in my recording space, guiro sticks, tambourine, backwards tambourine, voice. Apparentl...

Re: Nur Ein! IX Round 4

A long as JonEric is clarifying - I am also assuming that informal percussion is also ok - pounding on boxes - stuff like that.

Re: Nur Ein IX- Round Three

Ross Durand: at first I wasn't really sold by the canned sounding sounds (and I still think these sounds could be improved on) but when the guitars come in at about 1 minute I'm into it. being included on your list gives me the slightest hope of moving on :-) As you know, this isn't my usual approa...

Re: Nur Ein! IX Round 4

I assume you're kidding about the explosions, they wouldn't fit the definition above, clearly a wind instrument it seems to me. :-) Hmm, good point. Which section were the cannons in for the 1812 Overture? :-P Just saying, the sound doesn't come from striking the cannonball. Now if you want to play...

Re: Nur Ein! IX Round 4

Glennny, i disagree with you about the spirit seeming to be non -pitched. Look again at this quote from JonEric... At first I thought we just wanted to rule out using "pitched" percussion, but a majority of the judges argued in favor of struck idiophones such as the xylophone or marimba. A...

I read the spirit that way, too, MG. Just looking for reinforcement to be sure we all understand it the same way.

Re: Nur Ein IX- Round Three

My 10-year old played ukelele - she's kind of in love with it and has even written a few one-chord songs. Both of my daughters added chorus backing vocals.

Re: Nur Ein IX- Round Three

My entry is in. Like many others, this was not an especially advantageous week for getting this done... Is it bad to be knocking wood for four defaults?

Weren't you one of the ones complaining about the interpretation of the challenge? You pretty much did exactly what we were thinking of, with your third verse.
Never complained. Offered an alternative interpretation, asked for clarification. Clarification helped.

Re: Nur Ein IX - Round Two

(On the other hand, Sid Dennison (which was Caravan Ray's nom de guerre a few years ago) once incorporated the challenge by recontextualizing the source material into a brief opening sketch and then doing a two-minute punk song about how he doesn't like rules. He didn't survive that round. I still ...
