Robot third arm for drummers

Post by Lunkhead »

This is pretty interesting looking. A group of researchers have built a prototype of a robotic arm that they can strap onto a person's right shoulder that can then play drums along with you. It looks like they have it set up so that, when you put your own arms in position to play snare and hi-hat, it moves to the ride, and plays along in 1/8th notes. When you move your own arms in position to both play snare, it moves to the floor tom and plays along in 1/4th notes. Kind of amazing. In 50 years every band member may have 4 arms, to play previously impossible parts and/or play multiple instruments at once.

Wearable third arm gives drummers extra robotic rhythm
