I just thought of a fighter from Austin, Wes Davis. I'm always getting those blog messages from him on MySpace for his upcoming shows.

I think I'm visiting Austin between March 10 and March 17. And now I'm 21! And I can pay Erik back for the chicken parmesan sandwich he paid for at the Alamo Drafthouse, where hopefully I'll be able to visit another four times.

Well, I've heard of like half of those bands. I won't be in Austin yet for this year's SXSW, but next year... 8)

All of those, save five, I know because I'm the music director at the college radio station. Literally, I've listened to and reviewed albums by all those guys because of the college radio station. If you'd asked two weeks ago if I knew who Evangelicals or Throw Me the Statue were, I would have said no--but their albums are out now and both are excellent. In fact, Octopus Project (whose album came out last year, and who have a wonderful collaboration with Black Moth Super Rainbow) agreed to an interview with me for the KUOI programming guide, a month ago. So, neat that I'll be able to see them (they happen to be a local band to Austin, too.)

friday and saturday: vampire weekend, devotchka, blitzen trapper, kelley stoltz, pissed jeans, handsome furs, rogue wave, HEALTH, old time relijun, capgun coup, aloha, flowers forever, david dondero, tilly and the wall, we versus the shark, 60 watt kid, turbo fruits, shout out louds, destroyer, half japanese, golden arm trio, yael naim, ohmega watts, spinto band (!), no kids, kevin shields (member of broken social scene), black moth super rainbow/power pill fist, and comedians todd barry and eugene mirman are performing. they're both good.

of all these guys i listed, i'm the most excited to see: handsome furs, tilly and the wall, destroyer, kevin shields, black moth super rainbow, the deadly syndrome, the blow, elf power, jens lekman, evangelicals, octopus project, yo la tengo, spoon. and of those just listed, if i had to choose a mere few to recommend... jens lekman, destroyer, black moth super rainbow.

By the way, I'll be there in two weeks now. I was there for about a week at the end of May to scope out the apartment and move stuff. My fiancee is already there; her job started a couple weeks ago. She's been having a lot of fun, and every time she tells me about some cool thing she did or will do before I get there, I get really jealous.

Funny how all the people from Austin who used to be major players in the community are all pretty much inactive now. Except for Erik, who comes out of hiding occasionally to post something funny.

Boy I sure did completely ignore this thread after I started it!

I have now been in Austin for two years, and it's pretty awesome. I've gotten a band together, called Shy One Horse. Feel free to visit www.shyonehorse.com

It's a trick, though. That URL just redirects to our shitty Myspace.

Anyway, who's in Austin, now? I've hung out with WreckdoM. They are awesome and have a band here that is apart from WreckdoM but equally fucked up.
Am I rockin' hard, or hardly rockin'?
